growing up on the san Carlos Rez I remember my dad will come home and drink and I would sit there and count my dads beer and he always have 30 can or more and then go to yell at my mom and I would go outside and look up to the stars and moon and I would wonder how my people can be so amazing but be ruin by a couple of things. And then I had to move to Cali and now all I want to do is go back to San Carlos because beside all those bad things San Carlos was my home and is were I feel like I belong and I would honestly move back in a heart beat.

I feel the same. Of all the problems in America you never, ever hear of the issues that confront the Native Americans. The debts owed to them can never be repaid they are too many, too severe and too hurtful. It breaks my heart to see the poverty and self destruction on the reservations. I was 27 when I was told of my Lipan Apache heritage, long story. A bit... My Great Grandmother Anastasia married a Spanish man and took her family to SA.TX. to integrate into the Mexican culture for our survival. It was a few years later before I became much more interested in my NA heritage. I do not blame those who were in the council that I contacted for not allowing me any recognition. So many non NA people wanting to play Indian and all, I can and do respect their reluctance. I only wanted to be a part, and I did so distantly. I moved to the east coast and found many people from many different nations to be able to become part of this NA family, that as a child I had no idea I was a part of. In fact I was taught both by society and family the adage... Better dead than red. It was our family's dirty little secret. I did however upon embracing the reality of my heritage feel growing animosity toward this "adage" and towards those who maintain(ed) it. Because of what was/is done to the NA people I was deprived of my culture. I was not allowed to grow up "being" Apache. Today I proudly (when asked) state my heritage. It's not something I could hide considering my physical appearance. Not that I would ever wish to ever hide my heritage. For years I was/am saddened by this loss of identity. My animosity continues over the whole "American" concept. The lies placed upon my people. The horrendous treatment of the NA people as a whole. No one need travel abroad to see a 3rd or 4th world people as they are in abundance right here in Americas back yard. The true story of this "Great America" has been perpetuated by the propaganda of thieves, rapists, and murderers. And by the imposed government and elite who maintain their "righteous" hold on this what was once a beautiful land, stolen. Never forget that if you still benefit from this almost complete genocide of the NA people, you are still responsible ! Your ancestors began this and you still are a part of this situation that you maintain. You have the land and you have no intention of rectifying the damage done. We cannot "go home"... Our home here, has been stolen.
The San Carlos Apache people are a strong and beautiful people inside an out. Lots of issues, but I fell in love with this reservation since moving here and getting to know the people. Good or bad, I love them all.

I lived there, I'm a nurse, I'm not native but was treated very well. They are wary of strangers but once they know you they are warm and kind. I will always think of that time with love. They fight every day for existence. Pray for them.
This is absolutely beautiful. My Grandpa always thought that he came from a line of Apaches. I would be honored to be part of this blood line. What amazingly articulate young people. Time to rise up. We all need the power and strength that the Apaches have. I hope to visit one day!

It's possible to leave, and become someone. My grandma, grandpa left the same reservation with a 2 yr old, they were tired of the things that went on, they were homeless but made it. Got an education, had more kids, all which have an education now with masters and PhDs. And I'm a woman engineer who is a year away from a PhD myself. It is possible. There are resources to help you succeed, you just have to find it. I hope someday others leave safe and become educated and we can all go back and fight for our people, because there they are too weak to fight for themselves right now.
This right here is heart wrenching. This Apache in Los Angeles, and according to my Dine' sister (who grew up on the Rez) said I had a pretty hard life anyway. SO it seems to me after watching this video and seeing the struggles they are telling and noticing the inner turmoil is very sad. my grandma was born in Alamo Gordo new Mexico. she's a mescalero I'm mescalero . but she raised us in Los Angeles. I wish I had some brother and sisters here to teach me something about my people. she didn't know much . she went to bording school. before she died she gave one last war cry and fell into a comma and past on to the next world. I was raised in the Aztec traditions. very beautiful. still dance . but I would love to learn some crown dances and ceremonies to teach my kids

Commonality now days growing up with a single parent is tough. My mom split when I was 5, my dad was good but an alcoholic, so I was alone a lot found myself sleeping under cars from fear of the dark I developed. But you never give up - you push forward no matter how hard and most importantly you help others on the same path. Find peace , love and strength....

Amazing video. I lived in White Mountains among Apaches for 14 years with my angel bride. Brenda passed over 4 half years ago. Moved back to Tucson where we came from. Should have stayed in White Mountains. Loved every thing about it. But as my favorite Singer Songwriter Brianna Lea Pruett says in one of her songs, "Its done, its done, there's a time for sorrow and a time for Grace." Music has saved me the last 4 years. This video is inspirational and real. Like home. Not Tucson anymore.

growing up on the san Carlos Rez I remember my dad will come home and drink and I would sit there and count my dads beer and he always have 30 can or more and then go to yell at my mom and I would go outside and look up to the stars and moon and I would wonder how my people can be so amazing but be ruin by a couple of things. And then I had to move to Cali and now all I want to do is go back to San Carlos because beside all those bad things San Carlos was my home and is were I feel like I belong and I would honestly move back in a heart beat.

I was 27 when I was told of my Lipan Apache heritage, long story. A bit... My Great Grandmother Anastasia married a Spanish man and took her family to SA.TX. to integrate into the Mexican culture for our survival. It was a few years later before I became much more interested in my NA heritage. I do not blame those who were in the council that I contacted for not allowing me any recognition. So many non NA people wanting to play Indian and all, I can and do respect their reluctance. I only wanted to be a part, and I did so distantly. I moved to the east coast and found many people from many different nations to be able to become part of this NA family, that as a child I had no idea I was a part of. In fact I was taught both by society and family the adage... Better dead than red. It was our family's dirty little secret. I did however upon embracing the reality of my heritage feel growing animosity toward this "adage" and towards those who maintain(ed) it. Because of what was/is done to the NA people I was deprived of my culture. I was not allowed to grow up "being" Apache. Today I proudly (when asked) state my heritage. It's not something I could hide considering my physical appearance. Not that I would ever wish to ever hide my heritage. For years I was/am saddened by this loss of identity. My animosity continues over the whole "American" concept. The lies placed upon my people. The horrendous treatment of the NA people as a whole. No one need travel abroad to see a 3rd or 4th world people as they are in abundance right here in Americas back yard. The true story of this "Great America" has been perpetuated by the propaganda of thieves, rapists, and murderers. And by the imposed government and elite who maintain their "righteous" hold on this what was once a beautiful land, stolen. Never forget that if you still benefit from this almost complete genocide of the NA people, you are still responsible ! Your ancestors began this and you still are a part of this situation that you maintain. You have the land and you have no intention of rectifying the damage done. We cannot "go home"... Our home here, has been stolen.
The San Carlos Apache people are a strong and beautiful people inside an out. Lots of issues, but I fell in love with this reservation since moving here and getting to know the people. Good or bad, I love them all.

I lived there, I'm a nurse, I'm not native but was treated very well. They are wary of strangers but once they know you they are warm and kind. I will always think of that time with love. They fight every day for existence. Pray for them.
This is absolutely beautiful. My Grandpa always thought that he came from a line of Apaches. I would be honored to be part of this blood line. What amazingly articulate young people. Time to rise up. We all need the power and strength that the Apaches have. I hope to visit one day!

It's possible to leave, and become someone. My grandma, grandpa left the same reservation with a 2 yr old, they were tired of the things that went on, they were homeless but made it. Got an education, had more kids, all which have an education now with masters and PhDs. And I'm a woman engineer who is a year away from a PhD myself. It is possible. There are resources to help you succeed, you just have to find it. I hope someday others leave safe and become educated and we can all go back and fight for our people, because there they are too weak to fight for themselves right now.

This right here is heart wrenching. This Apache in Los Angeles, and according to my Dine' sister (who grew up on the Rez) said I had a pretty hard life anyway. SO it seems to me after watching this video and seeing the struggles they are telling and noticing the inner turmoil is very sad. The good thing is we have only to look within and draw strength from each other. We can only go up from here. Many Blessing to the littles ones. Keep the faith.

my grandma was born in Alamo Gordo new Mexico. she's a mescalero I'm mescalero . but she raised us in Los Angeles. I wish I had some brother and sisters here to teach me something about my people. she didn't know much . she went to bording school. before she died she gave one last war cry and fell into a comma and past on to the next world. I was raised in the Aztec traditions. very beautiful. still dance . but I would love to learn some crown dances and ceremonies to teach my kids

Commonality now days growing up with a single parent is tough. My mom split when I was 5, my dad was good but an alcoholic, so I was alone a lot found myself sleeping under cars from fear of the dark I developed. But you never give up - you push forward no matter how hard and most importantly you help others on the same path. Find peace , love and strength....

We must continue to evolve as a people and rise again to reclaim these lands that are rightfully ours, if not , keep trying, and remain steadfast in our dignity as a great people . Don't want deportation for those who were born here. Don't be blaming an entire race or ethnicity base on what individuals had or have done, but the individual(s) would be at fault.

Amazing video. I lived in White Mountains among Apaches for 14 years with my angel bride. Brenda passed over 4 half years ago. Moved back to Tucson where we came from. Should have stayed in White Mountains. Loved every thing about it. But as my favorite Singer Songwriter Brianna Lea Pruett says in one of her songs, "Its done, its done, there's a time for sorrow and a time for Grace." Music has saved me the last 4 years. This video is inspirational and real. Like home. Not Tucson anymore.
