Good Samaritans started singing the Bee Gees’ classic disco hit "Stayin’ Alive" while giving chest compressions to an Arizona cyclist who had collapsed.
I'm a 911 dispatcher, stayin alive is the song they teach for the proper pace during compressions when you take CPR certification classes. Kudos to them for doing it, the guy is rolling his hands and bouncing, you really need to go straight down.
@CamdenakaNeptunesdaughter1213 most of us have an app or just know now what the correct pace is. There is no way I could sing stayin alive in my head while doing that without dancing...
Many songs can be used. If it is as fast as staying alive, it can be used. So for example "the final countdown" would also work. But you could also choose "thunderstruck" , "highway to hell", and so on.
Alot of songs do actually, my favorite is another one bites the dust by queen but i feel like people dont appreciate you singing that one while giving cpr as much

You're misremembering, it wasn't "Staying Alive", that was the joke, that they wouldn't remember the right disco song and Michael started singing "I Will Survive" and "Saturday Night Fever" I believe, then they sang another song like "You should be dancing" or something to that effect, but the joke is that they said they should sing "Staying Alive" but didn't sing it since they didn't recall the right lyrics/song.

Amazing. *WARNING* don’t stop when something cracks or breaks. More than half the time you do chest compressions (which is done when someone stops breathing OR if their heart stops… yes, in rare situations you can breath for a minute or more without a heart beat until you base out) you’ll probably snap their sternum. Literally break ribs. Good; that’s actually a positive sign that you’re using strong force. You want that chest compressing and expanding to help the pacemaker cells electrical signal succeed or to keep blood circulating until artificial electric shock is introduced
Also when the medics come, dont give your name/ID because the person you're trying to keep alive can 100% sue you if you crack their rib. Its not even that they want to but they're often pressured to in order to pay the massive medical bills.
No it’s not good to break a sternam. It may happen but it’s not exactly good, as you say. You can push too hard. Especially in a child or baby. That’s bad info.
@@carolynm9638but in reality it doesn't really matter if you make it worse by pressing too hard because if you press too loose or not at all they die for sure. Its better to have something that can be fixed than being dead
I know I shouldn’t, but this reminder of not stopping if something breaks or cracks is needed…. As stupid as it is I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone but hey, broken rib and breathing…. I’ll take it ❤
They played this at my last cpr class. It has the perfect beat for chest compressions. Also "Another One Bites The Dust". Playing these us recommend in an emergency situation.
@@carolynm9638except you can say “1,2,3,4…” at varying speed and most people won’t count in an accurately paced way. singing along to a song however is much more likely to keep them on tempo and doing compressions at a steady rate
For those of you who think that this is cruel it may be off-putting to do it in the moment instead of just singing the song along in your head but the beat of this specific song is perfectly aligned with how you should sink the compressions of CPR
Learned this in health class and became cpr certified, definitely worth remembering that song but if you cant just keep repeating that “ah ah ah ah staying alive staying alive”
There was an ad on UK tv with Vinnie Jones doing this exact thing.. he was playing his usual gangster bad boy role but was also giving advice saying "staying alive" is the perfect rythm for chest compressions. Pretty cool to see it actually being used.

Great job on the compressions! I’m a nurse and we learned the song to keep the rhythm too!
I think it also has a somewhat calming effect as well!! Major kudos to all who responded ❤
Pretty awesome. Saved the man's life. Heroic
God bless the good Samaritans.
This reminds me of that episode from the Office when Stanley has a heart attack and Dwight cuts the face off of the C.P.R. doll.

When I was in high-school they used that song to teach us cpr!
God is good...bless all of you❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏
