Project Log ~ 18th Century Huswif

- Back in October my University hosted a costume sale through the Drama department. It was there that I picked up some gorgeous scraps that they were getting rid of, for the eventual construction of a huswif. Flash forward to the summer when I was in the possession of more time, and more scraps. With so many extant examples of these handy kits available to view, there are endless pattern possibilities, but here I present a simple version that is 100% a great project for beginners and advanced sewers alike. Better yet, it is always useful.

We always add in some minced parsley at the end too!
What a lovely huswif! The CoCoVid Badge Fairy stopped by with a little "blinng" for you!
It’s just lovely and exactly what I’m looking for to make for myself. I can take my small hand sewing projects with me and work on them while waiting at appointments. Thank you again so much for sharing this tutorial. ❤ forever grateful
Hussifs are AMAZING and they saved my life more than once. I always carry them with me when I'm on costume (in case I need any emergency repair), but I started to bring one with basic thread colors on a daily basis. There's someone in need of a small repair and I'm glad to help.
Great project!
I agree! They are truly the best multi purpose tool!
Thanks for the inspiration Holly! I just finished my first Huswif. However, I think I need some hand sewing lessons because it took me a very long time to complete!
gorgeous. I'm thinking I may make one for my nephew for Christmas as he's longing to learn some crafts
I am watching all the huswif vids I can as I'm starting to work on one myself. :)
Absolutely luv it DID not know what the word meant subscribed and like thankyou
Great project. One of these little organizers is definitely on my list of "need-to-make-soon" projects. Thanks for sharing your huswif with us. Take care and have a great day!
Wonderful video! Keep rocking fellow Canadian! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
That’s some CHUNKY beeswax
I'm hoping to make one and have a little leather pocket insert for my embroidery scissors
Huswif, never knew it was called that
Very handy
Yup. This is my next project 😁 Thank you!!
I would love to see a pic of the finished project!
@@ByGollyMissHolly I'll be sure to tag you on Instagram 😊
Great project! It looks so great with the weaving as binding! If you use linen thread, can you recommend a brand where I can purchase some. I just made a period skirt out of some flannel to keep me warm in the house but I just used regular thread and the machine. Next project I want to hand sew with linen thread.
I really loved using the handwoven tape, I've made so many other colours to match my different projects. I haven't used linen thread myself, but if you're located in the US, many other historical costumers recommend Burnley and Trowbridge!
@@ByGollyMissHolly Thanks Holly! I live in Ontario, not too far from Peterborough, but I’ll search for that brand as they may be on Etsy or Amazon.
Nice work! I've been debating whether to make huswif or a basic sewing kit bag. The organizational pockets on this one are tempting, especially since I don't have to sew on a zipper! Thanks for the tutorial.
Here from #CoCoVid!
I love the way this works for my and my sewing! If you need more space you could always change the dimensions and make it longer and/or wider!
Here thanks to CoCoVid. This was a nice video. It tempts me to make one of my own!
Hussif
Is the tape tablet woven? I can't really see on my tiny cell phone screen but it looks that way! :)
I wove the tape on an 18th century styled box loom!
