Cabrera throws the ball to the Yankees dugout (disrespectful) and Boone throws it to the Jays dugout (take that, jerk). Gibson calls out Wells on a ball BELOW the knees so he can punish Boone and then tosses HIM. Then calls ANOTHER very low ball to Stanton a strike and tosses the pitching coach. Gibson has NO BUSINESS being an umpire if he is only going to act like a child every time his feathers get ruffled. I thought we got rid of Angel Hernandez, finally, but here he is calling himself Gibson.
MLB needs to have a talk with the umpires union. Umpires need to stop acting like children when there feelings are hurt. Those 2 calls were unbelievable and bad. Enough!
You should only be able to intentionally walk the same batter once a game. If you do it more than once, the team gets a free run. Walking Judge 3 times in ONE GAME? Ridiculous!
King Cole has a nice outing today and it was good to see. 3 of his last 4 starts have been very encouraging and they were combined 17.2IP 17H 4R 2BB 19K. That extra rest was definitely beneficial overall. He did his job today and hopefully he can keep building from this.
I know this would never happen, but I think it'd benefit the game if players who walk on 4 balls (or intentionally walked) get two bases. IBB the best hitters the league is soft and lame AF. Let devers rake off Cole, let Judge rake off gausman etc, it'd be so much more entertaining
Happy to see Soto doing his thing at the plate, but I was never a fan of his baserunning. It threw me off seeing Grish mess up the catch in center, wasn't used to that in SD. Not a Yanks fan, but happy to see former Pads doing well.
THIS WAS OUR ANALYSIS: Berrios and Rodon on the bump here this morning and although both are capable of good outings they are both also prone to blowups. We have seen multiple starts from both these guys this year where they will give up 4-5 runs by themselves before ever even turning it over to the bullpen. Both teams are swinging the bats well especially the yankees that have lit up right handed pitching the last two weeks to the tune of a .301 average, a .941 OPS and a double digit barrel rate. The Blue jays have been no slouches themselves. The Yankees bullpen has been okay not great not awful but the Blue jays bullpen has been a disgrace over the last couple weeks with a 6.70 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP. Hot temperatures with the breeze blowing out today expect some fireworks here
Stanton needs to set up camp in the cage and rework his batting mechanics. Those were some of the worst swings I've seen at this level. He has such a great frame, seems he's using it in all the wrong ways.
I’m glad the Yankees won, but they need to find something for Stanton to do besides stand at the plate swinging at baseballs that are foot off the plate
Stanton is not as scary anymore… remember when you couldnt pitch to Stanton if there were runners in base? Or you had to think about it at the very least. Dude used to be a guaranteed hit
Did anyone think DJ was going to be the difference in the game🤦🏻♂️😅 ... well im happy for him😎 Dude needs to wake up, he is the difference in this lineup🙌🏼
Has the MLB ever tried to limit request for intentional walks? Like for example, a team can only intentionally walk a player once (or maybe twice) per game. I suppose they could just throw four balls “unintentionally” to get around that. It just seems so uncompetitive. That’s like any professional sports team having the ability to tell the best player on the opposing team they’re not allowed to play.
I see your point but I wouldn't compare intentional walks to not allowing the best opposing player to play because you are putting him on the base which drastically increases the probability of scoring a run against you when you have about 70% of getting him out. Similary in basketball you can double or triple team the best opposing player but that opens up the risk of freeing up other players whose shooting % goes up drastically from no or limited defense. It is what it is and it's part of the game.
Were Yankee fans complaining when Barry Bonds was intentionally walked a huge amount during his career? Yeah he was likely juiced to the hilt, but it's a way to neutralize potential damage by putting a guy on base. BTW, Judge only has 11 IBB so far this year prior to this game and a career high of 19 during the entire 2022 season, so it's not like it's an epidemic across the league.
Starting with their improbable comeback win at Fenway in game 2 of their series on 7/27, The Yankees appear to have regained some of their mojo back that contributed to a 50-22 start. However the bullpen, tremendous in this game is still inconsistent, particularly Clay Holmes, and their no. 1 starter doesn't look close to 100%. With 2 full months remaining the Yanks' have plenty of time to keep improving while putting Baltimore in the rear view mirror.

I couldn't believe Schneider pulling Rodriguez in the 5th. He was pitching very well and had only 76 pitches. I don't much confidence in the Jays manager. Too much analytics it seems and too little feel.
Maybe create a new rule? Can’t intentionally walk a batter more than twice ? Witnessing something historical here with judge, people go to yankees stadium just for judge and then they walk him 3x
Why would you not walk on that last out? You can get a runner on first so you could potentially get a double play to get out of the inning. The jays clearly did not want to win this and wanted to just go home.
As embarrassing/ hilarious as it is to fail to block a ground ball with a 5 man infield, I gotta say the Jays actually played the Yanks pretty well this year, at least compared to the previous Seasons.
No. It's part of the game. How many times did Barry Bonds get intentionally walked throughout his career? Also, Judge has 123 Ks so far this year, so if you go after him with say, nobody out and a guy on second, you might get the whiff. Called strategy,
