What allows both the PENELOPE and XI Gundam to fly in Earths gravity is that their flight units are equipped with the Mnvosky craft flight system, the same system used by the White Base and Argama. Despite their overall size thanks to the Mnvosky craft system and the massive thrusters in them both the PENELOPE and XI could get up to a top speed of Mach 3 and have enough fuel to fly around the earth before having to refuel again.

I dig that you painted it to resemble its Hathaway's Flash colours rather than its Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway colours. Hearing about how the plastic is not the best for painting however makes me wanna just panel-line it and call it a day (once I get some Gundam Marker).
I personally think that XI would make a pretty good Real Grade, much like its older brother Nu before it.
Keep up the good work Gundam. Ur vids have definitely evolved for the best.

I like how you're expanding to more kits than just MGs or PGs, because there are a lot of mobile suits that look awesome, but are only in HG, plus HGs are cheaper

Even with the plastic being weak quality, I love the design of this Gundam. It looks like it takes designs from fighter jets and incorporates it into the traditional Gundam design.

I stopped painting in the joints after I broke the hip of my mg strike rouge ver. rm...
Had to buy a spare to fix it, as I botched the repair, a somewhat expensive learning experience, but I plan on using the spare for a diorama someday (broken off legg, maybe without the arms to use in a kitbash, banshee holding it by the neck, something like that)
I love this kit imo. Fun to pose, get a lot out of it despite the bulk. The flight mode makes sense once you realize its just stabilizing its minovsky drives, both it and the Penelope fly with those, of which the V2 would greatly refine later.
Both suits have this aerodynamic and somewhat streamlined look thanks to the sharp angles on the designs and I love it.
I agree. Given that Xi is a "main character" suit, I'd sooner wager for an RG than a HG.
Not a fan of its overall design, but I absolutely dig his head. I like the more dynamic aesthetic it has quite a bit more, compared to older Gundams like Origin or Nu.
I really should look up the HG Psyco Gundam kit to compare the articulation. I Bandai could've done better for a kit that size.

Great work!! I built the Penelope gundam shortly after its release and after your review I'm passing on the XI gundam. The Penelope was kind of a blah build for the price in my opinion, the plastic on that one wasn't any good I had problems with parts breaking and it's space chicken suit just didn't want to stay on the body at all... then again I could of just been doing something wrong idk. if I find the Xi on sale for a good price I may get it but it's a nah dawg for me atm

Hey gundam daddy the reason why your parts broke is probably because you didn't clear the gloss coat your model before applying enamel wash. I don't know how you did your work but I was panel washing my rg unicorn and it's now a crumbling mess. It's the washes reaction with the plastic
I just slapped this kit together and I could tell some sections were thin on the runners, but the actual pieces were fine for me thankfully. These colors look way better than stock, kinda wanna paint mine now lol

I haven't built my Xi yet, but my Penelope I had to pin and reenforce both hip joints because they're already stressing hard.
Great work, this is on of the best XI builds I've seen! How did you do the led mod for the eyes? Any tips on how to achieve this is greatly appreciated.
I don't think it would have made sense for Bandai to release an RG to coincide with the release of the film. They want to the kit to be accessible to as many people as possible. I'm sure they'll probably make an RG of it and the Penelope after a few years.
Also, though the Penelope and Xi kits are hard to find at an affordable price now (at least in Japan anyway), since there are two more movies left, there will probably be some sort of variation of the two main Gundams that will be released, and possibly reissues of the original kits.

It’s bad here in the US. Even old high grades like my beloved GMs and Zakus are 30$+. The cheapest online and in my local shops is 80$. This should be at least a master grade at this price. These are dark times for model building.
Does anyone ever make like, battle damaged models?
I'm not really into model building, so I don't know if it's something people do, but that would be cool for the one you had to salvage the hand from. Make it look like the hand got blown off or something 🤔
It’s fun doing that. I got some cheap tanks from AliExpress and they will go with my aftermath diorama with a already pretty shot up hguc RGM-79 GM. I even put a pilot figure in to make it look like the hatch got ripped out but somehow the guy made it home.
There is the MC model HG knockoff of this and I have one. Was released waaaay back 2010. For me the proportions are waaaaaaaay better than the bandai one

Nice work. Some of my fixes instead of glue is using the resin from my 3d printer with a uv light pen. You can layer them up and strengthen it.

idk if im misinterpreting the joke at the beginning or what but the way they pronounce it in the anime is correct since its the greek letter Ξ and not the roman numeral XI. So "ksi" would be correct. Its not like you pronounce the Nu gundam the "v" gundam.

Speaking of weak ankle, those are common design decision RG/HG/MG seed offers
Its basically plastic meeting plastic friction
MG sazabi ver ka don't have that, some MG seed can get flimsy if you aren't careful
They are fine & dandy if you snapfit, but if painted, you need to shave some plastic or scrape the male part of it paint
Given time, they will crack & loose if you don't add support on it
I feel like I've had this experience with the mg wzew ver ka where the friction between the hands and the sockets were so tight the ball joint stressed so I had to pin a brass rod on the connector
Honestly painting the inner frame will always cause paint chipping and tighter joints. It's kinda obvious. I would either sand down the surface of the inner frame or not paint it at all.
RGs of these kits would be insane, Imagine the amount details

Honestly I feel like I had the same problems with the Penelope the parts broke easily it’s mainly because of how loose they were like the pigs for the shoulders are really damn loose same for the pigs that connect into the arms I glued (which was A mistake because I should’ve just used nail polish and now I have to get a replacement arm because the plastic melted but that my fault and I’m gonna go and get replacements soon) but yeah I feel like that was my problem with the vanilla bee the arms everything else felt great though

Are you planning to do the hgus penelope or hguc messer? if you or anyone else does the messer be warned its a fragile kit too and the hip armour will fall off if you look at it funny and is very loose in the arms.

I've been considering getting the Penelope vs Xi box set, but after thinking about it for a while I don't seen any upside to the box aside from the effects and extra stands.
Plus it doesn't seem like it can move much anyways.
The original colour blocking is a must to reduce the overall bulkiness. The new white scheme lacks definition and looks underwhelming.

??? They've been naming gundams with Greek letters since zeta my dude. Since xi is sometimes known as the spiritual successor to the nu gundam, the naming makes sense

Kinda dumb to make a suit with such an unusual design out of weaker material, especially for a transforming suit. Even still, phenomenal work as always especially with what you had to put up with off of this one.

Then use mr hobby as your go to paint

I never thought we’d get the Xi or the Penelope as kits. I bought the double pack, I just need to apply the water slide decals. I was thinking of trying to paint the effect parts in the blue white like the SD Xi Gundam kit box art shows. Do you think Bandai will make a P Bandai Katoki Version with the more traditional Gundam head?

Noticed on HG KITS that 1000 grit sandpaper will allow you to make more movement wo ruining the kit.
Go slow and you'll get the articulation you want.
Just what I do for my kids.. but there are times in HG KITS where the joints are to big for the ball. Which sucks because only tape or adding material will help that..
But don't care ... Just finding models like this are my reason for building..
If only they made car models that would have steering moving, wheels moving, every door and lid opens, and you could switch out parts...

Probably because they were using the new "KPS" thing? I don't know how new it is, but I've definitely felt some form of change in how the plastic feels over the years. If the runner felt weirdly easy to cut, it's probably KPS.
I really don't like it.
Great work as always, though the design and shitty plastic definitely turn me off from bothering with this kit. Also the missiles look like buttplugs, which coupled with the piss stream effects is... not great.

These Gunpla are just like the movie. Half ass'd. For example, on one side you have the city invasion scene. On the other, you have the beach scene. Sad.
