Great to see you upgraded her enclosure - a brilliant choice! I would however swap the sawdust to safe paper bedding, as sawdust is dangerous for their tiny respiratory systems and can lead to infection. She needs 6-10 inches deep bedding for proper burrowing. Also, hamster balls are super dangerous as toes and paws can get trapped and cut, and they cut off all the hamster's senses making it an incredibly stressful thing for her to play in. You're better off getting a playpen, and you can sit in it with her so she can climb on you. Hope this helps, she's a gorgeous hammy!

Hi, if you are struggling to find a decent quiet wheel I recommend the Trixie 28cm wheel on Amazon. It is a big silent wheel for a Syrian. She will love it. 👍 Great cage by way. 😊
That's such a fantastic upgrade for Dora (that new wheel is brilliant), they really do thrive, when given more space and things to do, don't they?... Can I make a few more suggestions please? Some really deep bedding under the green platform would be fantastic for her - I realise that it would fall through the bars, but it's really easy, just to line that section with some plain cardboard, tied on with jute or sisal string. Hamsters love to burrow about in deep bedding and it would minimise any risk from her falling off the platform too. Sprinkle in a few treats & she's got hours of entertainment! Those hamster balls have also caused some nasty injuries - hamsters getting feet/nails caught in the small holes/breaking leg bones and some, unfortunately going into respiratory failure, due to insufficient air getting in. Perhaps you don't need it, now she's got that lovely big wheel to run on? The wood log 'tunnel' looks like it has a very small diameter & hamsters have got stuck in small tunnels - diameter recommended for Syrian hamsters is 8cm. If you've got 'power tools' cutting it lengthways would solve that as she could always escape underneath. Finally, if you want to find some really good, cheap DIY hamster ideas, please do look at Erins Animals and Victoria Rachel's UA-cam channels and thank you for reading/listening to comments after your TicTok video and giving Dora the home she deserves. In the time since the video was published, the whole area under the green platform has already become inches deep in bedding, a combination of Dora herself and us watching UA-camrs like Victoria. We can definitely widen up the holes on that log (which she only uses as a stepping stone currently). We also took out the bridge structure as it appeared to small in the middle. You've done very well, I too use the Hamster Plaza. But this only the RSPCA minimum. My two males, I had no issue with.. but my new female, within two days, she has chewed a hole in the platform. I believe females are more active and can have more issues in cages. I love the fact you have lots of chew toys in there for her, however, sore dust can corse respatory issues, I personally use care fresh. Any paper based bedding is brilliant stuff. You can get it in some lovely colours too

But heres some things that could help.instead of sawdust, you could use safe non sented paper based bedding and it should be atleast 6 inches, so dora can burrow.and also you can, you dont have to but you ca n scatter feed her, just scatter her diet in the cage, on the platform on and in some hidey places, it would keep her busy:)And if you need any more advicve or have any questions, you could wach Victoria Reachel.

It's the militant nature of the comments we received (on TikTok)... Some were very helpful, but most were full of criticism with little constructive feedback. Even now we are told the larger cage isn't big enough yet we're met with silence when asking for suggestions. It made us contemplate whether the decision to keep any animal in captivity was wrong from the outset...
@@fizzlepop9451 honestly I’ve been keeping hamsters for a long time and female Syrians are incredibly hard to please, this cage you have IS definitely big enough however sometimes females can be very temperamental and need more that recommend, I’m only a few minutes into the video but as long as there is no cage climbing/chewing the bars then she should be fine. Outside cage time can be helpful especially for Syrians hamsters, again I’m only just starting this video so maybe I’ve repeated things you already know but I own dogs, reptiles and rodents and the hamster community is by far the most toxic I’ve been in, people can be so horrible, just know you are clearly doing your best, 90% of hamsters are still living shortened stressful lives in tiny store bought cages so your doing great just from this upgrade alone. Hopefully the toxicity doesn’t discourage you as most parents don’t care enough because it’s “just a hamster” so you caring in the first place is the best thing
I would recommend not to use a hamster ball because it’s too hard to breathe in it and the holes that are given are just the size of a hamster’s feet and there feet get stuck it will cause infections in there leg they might look happy because they are running around but that is only thing they can do so that means they can’t eat or drink when they want to instead you could use a playpen which is better for them. The Hamsters have a sand bath and will always urinate in the same place... they poop all over though! Farrah was only into Dora The Explorer for a short time. There was a TikTok Dora Meme recently and somehow it expanded from that! 🤔😂

We got told it was female by the family member who gifted it... we assumed it was true.... we haven’t seen anything “sticking out” 😱😂. But I’m no expert in Hamster gender! Perhaps it’s non-binary...
@@fizzlepop9451 Same with our bunny. We're assuming it is a girl since we don't see anything sticking out either. They really don't like to be handled but I did managed to hold it for wife to do the inspection down below. LOL A vet can confirm but I'm not paying more $$ just for that!

In the larger cage, she would only bite the bars where the hatch opened (as if trying to escape!). Sadly Dora died at 2 and half years old earlier this year.

Balls are not safe for hamsters. To be honest I don't recommend the hamster plaza because it is too small. Your hamster climes the bars which is a sign of stress.
Interesting, Laura, Thanks. There appears to be lots of conflicting advice on cage climbing. In their guidance for Hamster care, the RSPCA state "Wire sides will allow them to climb around the bars of the cage - a favourite pastime and great exercise!" In terms of even bigger cages, What cage would you recommend?
DONT put hamsters in a hamster ball!! It’s not safe, it can trap your hamsters feet and hamsters have bad vision and in a hamster ball they can barely see out of the hamster ball- use a playpen instead!
