Been a long, long time since I was around cows (my grandfather raised Black Angus), but he looks on the video quite healthy to the eye. I think he's been nursing on the sly, personally. I have to say that Grace is really becoming a young woman, taking on bigger responsibilities. And Justice, good for him! Kids need jobs. Good parents make all the difference. ~Cynthia
I am so very happy to see that calf come through this. I know the relief is just wonderful for you. Alice is such a good Mama. She took a bit, but adopted him and that is amazing . Many cows will not do that. Great video! Happy Day!!
YES!!!!! I'm so happy she let the calf nurse!!! I hadn't watched your channel in awhile and i came back. I know that y'all aren't in your house, but can i say how jealous i am and i am truly happy that y'all have land, a massive garden and animals🥰🥰🥰 its sooo beautiful there and I feel blessed that i get to see all your accomplishments!!!
Its wonderful to see the children out doing their chores. They are so responsible! Awesome to see it has worked out with the heifer. The smile on your face, Bri is beautiful. It appears you both have a nice rhythm now wit Art getting up earlier. Very happy for you.
Art and Bri you are not good parents for your family but also very good farmers for your animals. I am very proud to follow you even living in a city like Miami, where I do not have a piece of land to plant a plant. God bless you eternally and give you health and strength to continue growing.
I am so relieved for you guys! I have been praying she would except him and I cannot believe it!! So amazing and a blessing. Congrats you guys. Stay thankful, grateful and blessed... xoxo
When a calf overloads on milk especially a calf switched over from a bottle will get scours. Milk will run thru his tract undigested. Keep watching him for dehydration. 👍🏻😊
Art - great haircut! So fun to see Justice taking pride in his care of the pigs....huge relief to see the bottle calf settling in...such a happy, playful calf...I'm glad the newborn calf has a playmate :)
Between y'all and Sandi Brock I'm learning so much about farming and homesteading. I live in the city in the south no less so growing things for me is hard especially since idk what I'm doing but I've been learning alot from you guys so thank you for all the great information and encouragement
That's great for Norman the caff. I call him Norman because he has a chance for a normal life. So glad for you and your family and your animals. Yes it was a another great day on the homestead. 😊
I think I’m overjoyed more than you guys that Alice is allowing the baby steer to nurse with the her baby! Well done to both of you and of course also to the baby steer!
Oh I nearly cried with happiness to see him nurse- great job to you both as you have worked hard. Art you are a man of a few words ( loosen up mate ) Cheers Denise - Australia
😬😬. 45 years I’ve known my man married 39 years and still I get the OH HUM attitude Art gives you and seldom a smile. I can happy dance stand on my head in joy about anything and still my man when asked says that’s all ya get. Hardworking and writes the most passionate letters to me instead of cards and gifts. I’ve learned to accept it all cuz I know I DID get the best man for me. We’re a perfect balance and so are the two of you. My kids did struggle wanting more from their dad than a pat on the head but they grew to have something from both of us. Bri keep your joyous spirit and that huge smile when you’ve accomplished some feat you’ve struggled with cuz your joys of life can be seen in the kids more and more. And now Alice has surrendered to you and taking on that calf just so she gets some extra care from you. Be hopeful wishing. But together you and Art work together to solve anything and have great successes too. Keep that smile and do the happy dance cuz you both have kept the balance to what works for you. And love the unexpected hug Art gives and love the look he gives when he sees only you. Forever partners ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a relief. I know how it feels when an animal is at risk. Until it's safe you can't rest and be at peace. So happy this beautiful calf is doing great with sweet Alice. She's such a good Mama! 🐮❤😊🙏
Thanks again, I love watching your family and animal videos...you are great parents, and your kids are a delight to watch growing up.....Congratulaions...😀
Alice was the housekeeper who took care of the Brady bunch. How about names that belonged to the kids? She cared for & loved them as if they were her own. Kids were Marcia, Jan, Cindy, Greg, Peter and Bobby. I'm so happy that this little calf finally has someone to care for him and a sister to play with on fields of green grass. Such a better life than a number on a veal farm.
What a happy sight to see BOTH calves nursing in the field, and Alice has finally given in to share with her baby!❤ She is a great mama! Watching the babies playing in the field together was so cute! Hopefully now his little digestive system will adjust to Alice's rich milk and all is well. I'd say the formula he got at the dairy was no where near as much milk fat as Alice's milk. So that's a big adjustment for his little tummy. I, myself, can't drink whole milk (only 1% or skim) because of my IBS, so his little system took time to process the extra fat he's getting from Alice now! Alice is the sweetest milk cow I've ever seen.❤ Oh, I've got to say, those geese cracked me up all walking in line following the leader!😄
Tip!I heard this online and have tried it with success. Using small snack sized ziplock baggies with water inside as weights. I only fill the baggies 1/3 with water, then lay it on top of the fermenting veggies. Much cheaper than the small canning jars!
Yay! Not only is he able to nurse, but his poop is looking pretty good. Wait, did I just say calf poop looks good? Sometimes it's all about the poop. Lol. So cute Justice having his own farm chore. Good job Daddy.
We had a jersey cow when I was growing up my dad would milk the 1 side and the calf would nurse the other so nice to see brings back a lot of memories keep it up 👍
I hope Bri sees this comment - she mentioned once before that her canned pickles were soggy. I came across something on America’s Test Kitchen in their bread and butter pickle recipe that mentioned the water temperature should never go over 185 degrees for canning pickles. Anything over 185 degrees breaks down the pectin in the pickles. They also used calcium chloride in each jar to help maintain the crispness of the pickle. It’s not something I have used, but I did think it was interesting that they mentioned the temperature limit.
That little heifer has to be the cutest thing God ever created! The adopted boy is sooo handsome! Congrats on the success!!! Farm happiness rocks!! 💚🌿🌻
I am so pleased for you guys it makes me so happy things are going well for you. What a change in a couple of years. I pray you will get closer to getting your home re established soon. God bless you all xx
Great the calf is nursing without retaliation from the cow. Such a relief I am sure. Naming him will be fun now. Good luck with that with all the children. PORT PERRY ONTARIO CANADA
I did the same thing with carrot sticks! I wasn’t alert enough to check on them and lost the whole jar though. So happy your cow has taken your new calf 💜
We have an old barn and it has rained so much the concrete floor and even sidewalks are wet. We keep everything in airtight containers. We don’t buy in the quantity you do however. We’ve been having baby squirrels chewing holes through plastic containers so have moved to metal on some things.
Your whole family is adorable but your littlest one he is so cute he’s right in there trying to help out all the time it’s going to be a smart boy I think he already is on the way. I’m hoping all the best for the new calf and momma cow making friends. 👍🤗🇨🇦
That tip for the little canning jars when fermenting is great! I'm trying to can stuff this year, but so is everyone else. Finding lids is hard! So, I'm going to try some reusable ones and order a bunch of disposable when I can. Looking forward to pressure canning some soups to clear out our freezers for this year's meat (and have some convenient foods on hand).
I agree. Someone in the comments suggested to keep root crops down in that damp/wet area, that those root vegetables need some moisture. I have never had to store root vegetables, so I cannot say. I have had to deal witha basement that was damp and occasionally wet. I agree a fairly deep and wide French drain around that building would make a difference, and/or one above, up hill of the building, to make sure the water is diverted before it gets to the building. My unprofessional opinion.
We used to look for old chest style deep freezers that did not work. By drilling a few holes sides of the bottom and on the top and they make a great place to store feed.
Thank you for sharing ❤️💗❤️ Very Grateful everything is working out for you and your family and animals... SENDING A BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT OF LOVE TO SURROUND THE UNIVERSE 🤗💞💖🤗 AND EVERYONE 🤗❣️❣️🤗
Yay! Thank you for sharing this beautiful update cheers its lovely just sitting here watching the calves bond with mum an each other. Thank you for this wonderful channel cheers.
Gracie is such a responsible young lady. All of the kids are such great helpers
My suggestion for name is 'Oliver' as in Oliver Twist. He was orphan, went through hardships and finally has a family.
Can’t be too touching. His family is going to eat him. :0)
@@CopperValentine in that case,' the family' can be Alice and the other calf. Either way😂😂
That what we named our holstein bottle calf
NEVIN TOM h
And to Alice he keeps on saying "Please, ma'am, I want some more."
You guys are sn awesome family
And we all let out a collective sigh of relief!
Art, your hair cut looks sooo nice.
@atomic3939 Why would you even say this? It's not a compliment, and it's not funny.
@atomic3939 What does being the first to insult someone have to do with anything? Jest doesn't excuse crass behavior.

Such a happy sight watching that little calf nurse and Bri smiling ear to ear!
You could maybe consider Will for that little boy - he’s been willing THE entire stay to be her baby boy and accepted- HE MADE IT ♥️ 🐄 🐄 🐄♥️
I love that name!!!
❤🐄 Will 🐄❤
I love seeing the joy in your eyes Bri. It's heartwarming. Congratulations on your hard work paying off!

Yeah, some people don't express their emotions outwardly well but are feeling it inside. :)
Little boy is so cute and smart. He said I want to eat a potatoe. Lol
She's such a wonderful cow!
Awwww.... I was so worried about the calf and SO relieved to hear he is doing so much better! He is SO CUTE!!!
Loved the scene where the calves were frolicing in the field.

LOL, I made the same exact salad for dinner last night! I added balsamic vinegar to ours. It was fantastic!
Maybe you all need to put in some French drain (gravel-filled trenches) to carry groundwater away from that barn foundation.
