- I installed an electric actuator to make my RTTC Kodiak Stealth camper more awesome!
Here's the deal, teardrop campers are small. So I wanted a cool way to be able to convert my bed into a couch, so I bought a 12v DC linear actuator and installed it under the bed to more or less act like a sleep number platform bed! Installing an electric actuator is actually really easy, and this project turned out awesome!
I wonder what else I can make for my camper....

Those oscillating saws are always so handy when you need one! It’s a tool that I don’t use a ton but a life saver every time I actually use it.
Totally! I usually forget I have it to be honest...and then remember it and can't remember why I don't use it more! Then I forget I have it...
Great job! Now I need to buy an actuator. I don't know why. But I'll find a purpose for it.
Do it!! Its $50 well spent! You could make a cool clamp, or a folding table extension in the shop, or get a really powerful one and have it tilt the bed in the morning so you can literally roll out of bed!

Cool. While you're at it, I would suggest an improvement, though. You could split the remaining of the wooden plank in two and add another hydraulic arm which would pull the feet of the bed downwards so that you could get an actual sofa. That way you could get an infinite number of combinations, from full sitting position (with your legs bent at the knees and feet touching the floor), to the fully horizontal position. In between you could configure it with legs and back at 45 degrees or whatever other configuration felt perfect for the occasion.

Great mod!!! We just got a Kodiak Stealth in August 2021 and we're in the planning stages of figuring out which mods we want to do to ours first. Great idea to make a more comfortable space to lounge. We don't have access to our exterior storage from inside so that must be a change that they made. We're eager to make the cabinet storage a bit more usable with some shelving or something. And the storage in our benches doesn't have hinges on it or anything so we'll definitely be adding those soon as well.
I *think* the pass through access was an option..im not sure. But it could easily be added for sure.
For the benches I really want to add hinges too. Maybe even some sort of slide out? so many opportunities!

Nice job!! I've only built a multi level shelf for inside the closet since we needed more shelf storage and not a full closet of hanging room. Otherwise no building just obtaining the right tables and gas connectors for the outdoor "kitchen" area. Like what you did as I don't think I'd access the pass through from inside much anyways so I think this is much more functional this way.

Just came across this and find it a great alteration to small campers. However, I might take it a step further, since you lost access to your storage from inside cabin I would make two doors (or just one) to each side of the actuator but positioned further back toward rear so that the weight of a body would not put too much strain the access door(s). Other than that I really love the idea and will share with friends. Regards!

How long have had your trailer? Looking at getting one myself.
We picked it up early this year in March, but we ordered back in 2020. 0_o
We've taken it out 6 times since then and love it. Its a great size, really easy to get into tight spaces or weird campsites. If you like traveling light, this is definitely the way to go! Priority to our Rustic Trails Teardrop, we would motorcycle camp, so this is a big step up. :-)
Might I suggest a larger camper? 😂

But we love our tiny camper. Easy to tow, Easy to store, and even fits into spots that are typically only reserved for tents. :-)
@@MakewithJake oh, I know. I used to have a 25 ft. 5er. I could get that thing almost anywhere. Much bigger than yours, but small. Now I tow the queen Mary ever since the wife discovered slideouts.

Running all your electrical out in the open under that trailer - not a good idea at all. That's why god made electrical conduit.
I don't think God made electrical conduit. But....either way, in this particular case, electrical conduit would probably cause more problems than it would solve. Since there are steel angle iron bars across the bottom of the camper, I would have to cut large holes for the conduit to pass through. This would be really tough to do...and I just don't think its necessary, especially since I used wire that was rated for exterior use on trailers.
