Sometimes I come close to ridding myself of UA-cam, just deleting it & it's pointless intrusive irritating adverts from my day, but then gems like this come along to remind me there are truly fascinating downloads to be found amongst all the Chaff on the Threshing room floor.
What makes it even more astounding is that the initial dating estimates were off. Originally, the researchers thought that the fossils were 2 million years old. Painstaking daring research moved the dates forward to 200,000 to 300,000 years ago, meaning that Homo Naledi and Homo Sapiens are contemporaries.
I have heard Dr. DaSilva's talk on this subject via the Leakey Foundation's UA-cam channel. But, I also wanted to see Dartmouth's channel and its content, since I'm a genealogist (38 years, now) who is also a second cousin (8 times removed) of Dartmouth's founder, Rev. Eleazar Wheelock.
Hey. A seven in opening is small for modern humans, but how large is it for these smaller hominids? Maybe they easily crawled into and out of the cave?
I've been trying to learn about Ardipithecines but it's very confusing when I read different things about them. Some people seem to think they're before the human/chimp split and others after. I thought the progression was Ardipithecines, Australopithecines, Homo habilis and rudolfensis, then Homo ergaster/erectus, then archaic homo sapiens
Here's a theory. Maybe this creature was nocturnal and spent the daytime hours hiding in the cave. With its ability for climbing, coupled with an ability to navigate in low light environments it was able to explore and navigate the depths of the cave. In summary, a creature spending a great deal of time in the cave, add to that climbing ability and being comfortable in dark environments due to their nocturnal nature. Suddenly finding individuals down there doesn't seem so unlikely. I'm not saying I believe this, but if outside-the-box thinking is invited, then give this some consideration?
And imagine if Naledi was hunted by other creatures that could enter the cave. Cats or other humanoids. The deepest darkest parts of the cave become a valuable refuge. Just another thought
May be they were arboreal in heir origin but easier option to explain the burial in a very difficult access camera is that they could be a already stressed population that took refuge in the cave. But no indication of their presence in the camera that is before the dragon back is troublesome. May be hidden there is the complementary history of this population.
I used to believe in evolution, but the more i research the less i believe. There is somebody out there that we do not or can't understand. "Astronauts gods of the mayans" on History channel is mind blowing. cave art showing astronauts.Califia riding a flying griffin in cave art. No...we do not come from evolving.
Another ideas (crazy but why not possible)?. The funeral behavior is not a act of explicitly humanity or high degree intelligence. If they also lived in the cave, they may have done that to avoid the smell of the bodies attracting carnivorous animals. Or as my very old dog that copied the tricks from another one without I never had teach him, they were coping the behavior of other contemporary and more brain developed species.
That is just the way they disposed of the dead. Can't have rotting bodies laying around attracting wild animals. What else would they do with them ,they had no shovels lol
To the world, my apologies. Americans are that rude, to interrupt a lecturer during the presentation portion of the lecture. Interrupters should be ignored or ushered out. Well perhaps not kick out, just shamed into silence then.
@@vesuvandoppelganger so you're just making an unfounded guess, got it, at what point does a thing that can't be observed or interacted with become something that you believe in?
I am not making an unfounded guess. I am stating a fact. I believe in a thing that can't be observed or interacted with when it creates humans and the other animals.
Evolution has already been empirically validated as true, the theory of evolution is a framework to explain the processes behind the fact of evolution, why would you want to tell everyone you slept through science class?
@@lumberpilot it is an incontrovertible fact that organisms have evolved during the history of life on earth and biologists have identified and investigated mechanisms that can explain the major patterns of change
This lecturer is very accomplished in his presentation design as well as delivery. At the same time, the subject itself is mind-blowing.
He has some new books that came out since your comment was posted. It reads the way he talks

Here for an Anthropology class.I learned so much.
An absolutely fantastic presentation! Thank you!!!
This just popped up in my usually pretty terrible feed. Astounding story. It didn't even make the mainstream news where I live in Australia..

When things get complicated, scientists think that's a blast. Science!

So enjoyed this lecture. Thank you so very much.
Fantastic presentation!!!
I really love your tie today - the one with the skeleton on it .. :-))

I paused at 49.20. It boggles my mind, what am I looking at.. Not an animal no human.. How they lived.. It look so believable and unbelievable
I think this discovery will motivate more people to become anthropologists just like the movie Indiana Jones. Anyway, this is amazing
Thank you.
Excellent presentation.
Thanks 😊

"We're done" Huh? How could you say that......
Anybody know where I can learn more details about our ancestors locomotion??
Ahh did they return the bones ?

sounds like another group lived in the cave and was eating them and disposing the remains into the gap.
There was no evidence of predation. Pay attention. :)
About 2 million years

We did not decend from chimpanzees. We evolved from something entirely different - which looked very much like a chimpanzee.

That image originally came from 1932 Scopes trial and was always a lie

I hate hearing these creatures called 'these things' repeatedly. They nwere beings, not things.
They were not underground. Think about the title. Underground was the 2 sides of takeover.
I see that they haven't discovered that humans were created.
Created by who?
That's a mystery since it seems that the creator is unobservable and we have no contact with him/her/it.
