YAY! I was hoping you’d react to more of Agatha! I love your commentary, it’s always so thoughtful. It’s nicer when the reactor is keeping up with what’s happening and isn’t staring confusedly at the screen the entire time
SO EXCITED you are reacting to this episode! It is fantastic, and Joe in the Maleficent costume is stunning. Since you are my favorite reactor, I obviously prefer your reacting style. 😊
Love the Billy cosplay! The image of Agatha with the three swords, crying over Billy's body, gave me chills. You're right, that whole sequence was so well done. A fantastic episode! Thank you for your analysis. You pick up on so much! I can't wait for the finale tomorrow! 🧙♀️🔮
So glad you reviewed this episode. It's so good! My love of Billy and Joe keeps 6 as my #1 but this is a very close second. It's just so well done. So emotional. Regarding time, I do have to wonder. Like, what did he tell his parents? He ended up out all night when Agatha threw him in a closet. Then spent all day with Agatha. And now an unknown amount of time on the road. Is Eddie covering for him? How long can that last? He's 16 and it's not summer break. Shouldn't he be in school? He has a deck of tarot cards in his room but clearly he hasn't actually learned to use them. Yeah, their snark towards each other is something else, lol. I looked up the Seven reversed and part of one site said: "It can suggest firstly a need to change your approach - the tactics you've been using are not working. While upright, this card can stand for a cunning victory attained by deception and trickery, the reversal can stand for either a more extreme version of such behavior. Or instead, a kind of renewal of conscience. You or someone in your circle may be deciding to unburden themselves with their guilt, and come clean about some piece of manipulation they have been involved in. Trust has been broken, but with a confession, you may be on the road to repairing it. There is a desire here to try and do things in a different way, one that is collaborative rather than independent." So, not truth exactly, but it does still seem like it could apply. Yeah... Agatha is not very helpful with these trials, lol. "We still have some time!" - she's not very genre savvy either, lol. Yeah, Agatha sorta had it coming, but trying to kill the other 2 was very extreme and kinda eh. I know he lost control, like Wanda has before, but still.... At least he does feel bad about it. Jen has such great one liners this episode. "Five-minutes-ago-Lilia would never say that," "Damn, using his full name." "I mean, always, but collectively, we've moved on." The way Joe's voice squeaks at 'cool', lol. "I needed you. My coven." in that voice. Chills and tears every time. You're right, this sequence is brilliant. So well done and so emotional. Yeah, I assume Jen's is a mental block. Some say she gave Agatha courage, Teen brains, and Jen a heart. Not sure it totally works but eh. Lots of Wizard of Oz stuff. *potential spoiler from an interview regarding the Seven:* Jac says they're gone, off the table, implying they're all dead. If so then the scene should have mad that more clear since, yeah, it seems like only 5 died. I guess we'll see. Such a great episode. I'm still a little bitter over Alice's death. And while I'll also miss Lilia, at least she went out like a badass in a wonderful focus episode.
The world of the MCU would be a lot more boring, but a lot safer to live in if Lilia's Maestra was in charge of Earth's defenses instead of SHIELD, SWORD, and Kamar Taj. No one would be allowed to delude themselves, baddies or good guys. STEVE ROGERS: "Oh I've lost everything I knew and am here in a strange time" MAESTRA: "So be sad. You are allowed to be sad. Then go learn about your new world. If it strange, learn until it is not" THANOS: "I shall gather the Stones and balance the Universe!" MAESTRA: "and when it all begins again? What will you do then? This plan will not give you your dream. Dream better" Loved watching a reactor who WATCHED the show, and then theorised. It's rarer than you think.
I can't make any guesses or predictions for the finale, because Joe Locke is the only reason I even watched Agatha. But I am obsessed with this show now! It is so cool ❤ I loved your commentary and analysis. I agree that Episode 7 is the best so far. I am super excited to see what's next and how it ends! I've never bothered with MCU until now, but I'm loving the hell out of this storyline.
I was wondering why Rio was illustrated on the coven card (Three of Pentacles) and not just the Death card, since she’s not *really* a coven member, and then I remembered, “I hold Death’s hand in mine” from the Ballad. Of course the coven is literally holding Death’s hands in the card representing their journey. Billy thinks the “reunion” as what’s missing means Tommy, but I like to think it represents the reconciliation of the two parts of him, Billy Maximoff and William Kaplan. Emmy for Patti Lupone campaign starts now!
The illustrations on these tarot cards were done for the show but they are heavily inspired by the classic Rider-Waite versions. I always thought the two figures on the Tower card are Billy and Tommy, fleeing the Hex. One of the big alternations from the Rider-Waite card was to remove a hat from one person and change it to be blonde hair, I think? (And to add Billy's crown to the top instead of a golden crown.) Also the "Safe Passage" spread that Lilia explains was made up for the show.
This was great as usual Thom. Loving the Teen look! I love how Agatha's card reading is exactly Wanda's condition. Agatha and Wanda having this exact thing in common is interesting. The Darkhold tainted Agatha's compassion for Wanda and she forced Wanda to face and process some of her trauma. But without the Darkhold, and when she looks at Wanda's body - she showed compassion. She clinically monitored how Wanda dealt with the grief that Agatha herself has had to deal with. I wonder how she reflects on that now.
What I love about Agatha is that it is a queer show with two queer leads - of different genders - that isn’t explicitly about being queer or coming out. Like, I can’t think of another show that’s true for. Love your commentary, though Thom. It’s so smart and so well edited. If I were to order just one of your books, which one would you start with? Is there one you would consider your best work? Sorry if that’s too forward a question.
I would suggest Dreamers! I'm not sure if it's my best work, but it's definitely the one I put the most of myself into + the one that meant the most to me as a writer. (And thank you for wanting to read one of my books in the first place! 🖤)
I hope you’ll continue reacting to the final 2 episodes. I love your thoughts about everything. Regarding the “don’t want to go back in the closest” joke, I read that Jac was unsure about it but Joe insisted it be there. The same week that episode came out, there was a baker on Great British Baking Show who, when his cake was done in the oven said “I’m coming out…I’m gay.” (The first part meant coming out of the oven) It’s like, it can’t NOT be said, you know?
Hi Thom, the eyeliner looks good on you 😊 I thought the same about episode 6 and than episode 7 blew me away, to be honest not at the first time watching... Its a real masterpiece !!❤ Lovely Greetings
So, 1) awesome take. 2) I think Agatha, as the Three of Swords relates to Alice/Knight of Wands - that Agatha could not control her power and took her son's/Nicholas Scratch's life/power, for which Rio/Death had to come and collect the body. Hence the Three of Swords/regret. Regardless of all of this, give Patti LuPone all the Emmy's NOW.
The writing of this series HAS to be the blueprint for Disney and the MCU scaled back, its one of the cheapest series they have produced. I know some of the moderate doubters have said the shows been getting better but this show is the first I've enjoyed in over 18 months. The acting in this latest episode even the professional haters are having trouble to spin this as "Worst show yet"
In the Variety article Jac Schaeffer did on Oct 25 she does say: " Yeah, the Salem Seven are dead. They’re off the board in our show, is what I will say. Lilia has saved everybody! "
I think that might be a misdirect, in line with what our beautiful reactor said. Notice that just before the Salem Seven hit the swords, we only see 5 falling, and only see/hear 5 hit the swords. We then see feathers fall; black raven/crow feathers, and greyish owl feathers. I bet 2 petty Queens will appear for vengeance in the finale lol
@@ashtond6390But when Jac doesn’t want to give a twist away, she’s been declining to answer or saying “see future episodes.” I don’t think she’s lying tbh.
Also, jokes are what many queer people use as a self-defense mechanism. *Lilia's name was on the list for the covenant. Billie's name wasn't, but because of the sigil, she wrote down a black heart. The tourists on this trip through the road are Sharon (RIP) and Rio, Death.
She did, but we don't know the details of how that came about or what exactly happened there (and the implication from Agatha's reactions is that she didn't know that the cost of the Darkhold would be her son).
@@jondavwal13 I'm definitely sure it is (more complicated, that is)! I only assume there was some kind of a Darkhold-for-Nicholas exchange situation since Agatha's hallucination shows her the Darkhold in the crib in place of her child.
The funny thing is they got a young actress who cannot pronounce Maestra. It's not mystra. It is Ma-AY-stra. The accent is on the second syllable. You are the only person who picks up that Jen is not bound. It is self-imposed. That she is UNWILLING to use it. Nobody else got this at all. They didn't use that word for no reason.
I would add that we need to remind ourselves that this is a reading of Lilia’s futur, she was unwilling to use her powers because all she saw was death, she could not control it or change what she saw. I think this is partially Jen’s futur, but we need to remember that Lilia was the traveler of this reading.

The „queerent“ joke took me out 😂

which goes back to Agatha getting powers as they do trials as rest die for Rio lol
they are selling the dec as it was in show was confirmed on twitter
I believe she did, convo with Rio in episode 4 , can like this show create a coven so Agatha can get their powers as Rio says she get their bodies
They are selling the tarot deck, it's already available for preorder though isn't coming out until July 😢. Also, great reaction 😅

1st trial may not have really been a trial at all, Jen is still alive, i believe 1st was a test for Sharon cuz she WASNT a witch
