The Miami FL Hurricanes had a record of 49-3 between Saturday October 23rd '99, and this night of Saturday November 1st 2003, This game and next week's home loss against Tennessee took Miami out of BCS Championship contention.
Miami fan here, VT kicked our ass that night. This was just one of those nights where the crowd helped a very good team play like a National Championship caliber team. Reminds me of what Miami did to ND in 2017.
I was there as well. It seemed as though it started out insanely loud and it kept getting louder. It was so loud, you literally could not have a conversation with the person next to you. One of my all time favorite nights as a Hokie fan!
Was at this game. From the time we got there at 1pm until 2a, Blacksburg was a giant party! Just an awesome atmosphere inside Lane this night! Great win for VT.
I’m a Michigan fan but I lived in Virginia as a kid when this game happened. A lot of my friends were Tech fans and I did not like Miami growing up. It was a lot of fun watching VT bludgeon Miami at Lane Stadium that night. VT played some of the best defense I’ve ever seen that night. I really hope there is a day where VT gets back to being a CFB power again. It is really good for the sport when they are a contender.
I was at this game with my dad who played just s little at Va Tech until he blew out a knee. From 2010-2014 we made every home game except one when his back hurt. Hokie family here.
Was a freshman on campus. Got perfect level of drunk at tailgate. Incredible atmosphere in student section. Best in-person game experience I have had, by far. Despite Miami being a good team, you felt in the air they were helpless that night. Thanks for posting!
The dropped TD in the endzone by #84 was basically game over for Miami. I had forgotten about that play. The crowd and the Virginia Tech defense came up huge in this game. Berlin looked like a dear in the headlights.
This game had Marcus Vick, Michael's younger brother playing in it. He wasn't on his big bro's level by any means. He was a great athlete but didn't put the work in.
Kevin Jones was the #1 recruit in the country and Marcus Vick had to be up there, it's unheard of for VT to get top recruits like that now. They all go to Clemson, fsu and alabama $$$
Virginia Tech was still riding the recruiting momentum from the Mike Vick era. The top runningbacks all wanted to go to tech to play in their run-oriented offense back then and Marcus obviously went there because of his brother.
Unfortunately these days you are correct. We have had a number of them over the years just not year after year. Hokies new coaching staff has made it priority #1 to go back to our roots and recruit the top players in Virginia more. I imagine we will see a uptick, question is how big will it be. Beamer and Foster made it work with a rare 4 or 5 star but typically a class of 3 stars or not rated. Sorry for the babbling
@@Bleedblue6487 Tech has had an amazing defense for many years & alotta that success came by way of Defensive Coach Bud Foster. The man was a Defensive Guru who's Defensive squad's were always Top Shelf & wreaked havoc on opponent's Offense's. Coach Foster was an amazing coach who stuck w/ Coach Beamer up until the end of his coaching career. They were truly a dynamic pair who worked so well together & I think alotta that had to do w/ Coach Beamer trusting Coach Foster & giving him full control of his Defense. Of course you also must remember the fact that we (Virginia Tech) have had so many great defender's on the team's over the years. Bruce Smith always comes to mind but more recently we've had player's like Brandon Flowers, DeAngelo Hall, all of the Fuller brothers & so many more. Anyone who know's anything about the school, it's football program & Coach Beamer is also gonna know that Beamer coached w/ that blue collar mentality which was associated w/ a hard work ethic & he was also in charge of the Special Teams guy's & those guy's definitely were always ranked in the Top 5 or 10 in the country. Seeing Tech block a couple punts/kicks & returning them for 7 wasn't an unusual thing to see each weekend w/ these teams. They were alotta fun to watch back then, especially getting to see a dynamic young Michael Vick who could rarely be controlled much less stopped. It's obvious I'm biased, my family all went there but it was a good time for us & me getting to enjoy seeing Tech finally reap some of the rewards they were deserving of... 👣🐾
@@spenserswain7885 D-Hall was the best playmaking corner in VT history, but Flowers, from a coverage and technical standpoint, was the best in Tech's history. Think Kyle Fuller deserves a mention as one of the best, as well.

Ron Franklin was a GREAT and HIGHLY underrated announcer. Loved Mike Gottfried as a color commentator as well.
I’m a Oregon Ducks fan but always followed college football. Loved watching va tech because of Vick. This game was lit

This was one of the Earthquake games. I was there that night and the air was electric
RIP Sean Taylor. 😔
Go Hokies! 🦃 🏈

The picture of that fake FG drop is one of the greatest of all time. Loved this game, really showed off Bud Foster D! Go Hokies!
The game that ended the U dynasty
If by Dynasty you mean One National Title.....
Derrick Crudup. That's says it all. It explains the miami decline. Jeezys we were #2 in thd country. We had Winslow. I nearly vomited this game
Blacksburg is lit can’t wait til they good again 🦃🔥
Beamer Ball at it’s finest
that boy brock berlin was so trassssshh
Miami was in complete disarray here.
0:51 back when that U banner meant something
Nice game 👍
That Crudup int though.
That was not a late hit or hit out of bounds @41:30. Neither guy even touched him.
Game was over after that fake fg was dropped VA Tech secondary was loaded that yr
Very underrated DB school. The list goes on with the talent through the years. Brandon Flowers being the best corner IMHO. But a lot of other talent.

All Maroon….game over.
This was right after WVU beat the shit out of Virginia Tech 28-7 😀
