    You just saved me from being heart sick over my brand new Silhouette cameo 3 not cutting. I even resorted to skimming the manual and didn't see locking the blade in the instructions. Thank you for this video! I've subscribed to see what all you have on using the Silhouette.

    when cutting chipboard with the deep cut blade can we do it without the mat underneath? thank you for this its the best video about this topic I have found!

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  5 років тому

      You're welcome. I'm glad you found it helpful! :-) I wouldn't recommend not using the mat. If you were cutting adhesive backed vinyl or HTV I'd cheer you on to try it for sure! But you want to be sure the chipboard is held firmly in place or there's risk of it moving around, jamming, etc. The cut settings in the software were tested with the Silhouette brand of chipboard so be sure to do test cuts if using something that may be a bit different thickness.

    When you put the auto blade in, the number 5 is in the front. Does this have to be dialed back to 1, or does the number change when you are using your settings in the design area of the software?

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  6 років тому +1

      Hi Cheryl :) the autoblade will adjust per the blade setting in the software. It's the only one that will do this. All other blades (ratchet style) you must manually adjust.

    What the premium blade used for?
    I have some glitter paper very thick i cant cut it with the autoblade. You think i can used the premium blade

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  4 роки тому

      A premium blade is really just a redesigned ratchet blade with a more durable blade. It cuts up to 2mm thick and can cut pretty much any material like the other blades. If your paper is thick and/or textured you may need to make small adjustments for cutting with several passes. For example.. first cut pass is blade 2, force 22, speed 2. Second pass increase the force; third pass increase force and repeat until it cuts through. If this is a paper you plan to use frequently, write down the settings that worked best and create a custom cut setting so no more guessing in the future. You can use any blade with this multiple pass cutting approach. Also, if you only increase blade depth the paper will tear and rip while cutting as too much of the blade is exposed. A thick glitter paper will also dull the blade quicker than cutting other types of materials. I always recommend separate blades for paper products. :) Good Luck!

    I have a little problem cutting 4-way stretch fabric. I want to cut tribals for leotards (gymnastics) do you have suggestions. I use a fabric blade on setting 10 and pleasure 33. I glue the fabric on a carrier and that on a cuttingmat. But somehow it doesn't work that well. I hope you can help. Thanks in advance

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  5 років тому

      Hi Jeroen :-) I don't cut fabric myself. But I've seen enough questions on this to know that the fabric must be stiff and cannot have any movement to cut successfully. Are you using a fabric stiffener of any type before adding to the mat? If you don't have this already, look up Terial Magic. You may need to use that along with something like Lite Heat N Bond for the 4-way stretch fabric.

    I have a quickutz silhouette, the first machine that came out I think. I have never used it, I couldn't figure the thing out! So mine has blue, yellow and pink blade caps. I don't know what each are for. The software that comes with the machine won't work on my computer system because the computer is so much newer then the software! I don't even know at this point if the software for the cameo will make mine actually work. I have learned that the blue cap is for like paper but I need to cut a thin vinyl. Is that right, also what are the others for? I went to the site and spoke to a person (young and uneducated in what isn't shown on the screen) she couldn't give me any help, she told me YT would probably have tutorials. It does but not for my system. She assured me that the blades for the Cameo will work in mine, but I don't understand what depth or number apparently to use with what materials. Im getting so upset and angry with this product and the manufacture I can't even tell you.

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  4 роки тому

      I had to do a bit of digging because the Quickutz machine is considered a legacy machine and not technically supported by Silhouette any longer. It's possible this machine can still work but you'll need to try some updates in order for it to work correctly. Keep an open mind that you may not have success since this machine is an older model, the technology is older and doesn't communicate as well with Windows 10 and newer USB port technology. Some users have stated a usb hub has worked for them. The basics of this is your machine is using 1.0 USB technology where we are using 2.0/3.0 USB technology in 2020. USB 2.0 is 20 yrs old.... this is why I mention keeping an open mind about this fixing the issue. :)
      1) Goto silhouetteamerica.com/software and expand the LEGACY section to download 4.1.479. Install this but do not have it open until step 4.
      2) Try the firmware update that can be found here.
      www.silhouetteamerica.com/faq/solution/machine-cannot-connect-to-silhouette-studio-software
      3) Once the firmware is successfully installed, plug in the usb cord and power on the cutting machine.
      4) Launch the software (4.1.479) and from the upper-right, click SEND.
      5) At the bottom of the SEND panel is a cutting machine icon. Click on that icon and select the USB connection for your Quickutz machine.
      6) From the upper-right, click DESIGN. This returns you to the workable design area. Your page setup panel will show you page settings based on the connected machine. You should now see it display as Auto (Silhouette) and your page size should display as 8.5x11.
      PLEASE NOTE: For print and cut projects this machine uses Type 1 registration marks. This has changed in the software to an on/off toggle option. The correct registration marks should display once added but you need to verify that it has the 3 L marks. If it has 2 L marks and 1 solid square they are not correct and will fail. Good luck!

      @@bakedonmaple1196 WOW! I am so impressed at all the work you did to answer my question. I'm truly thankful and amazed!! Thank you so much! I was able to install the cameo software and it seems to work with my machine. I'm blessed to say the least! I have actually cut a few things with it and though it tore the vinyl in a place or two that was my fault. I asked it to cut two outside lines and it did but one part was in a tinny area and it got a little hung. All in all im actually (with all the great people who have posted video of the cameo over the years) been able to us my 10 year old New machine. LOL I got it 10 years ago new from a store so I don't know why it would be considered older then that? Anyway, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to look all this up for me. These machines are very expensive you would think the company would keep the software updated, ya know like they use to with windows with patches. I'm looking forward to all the things I can and will be using this machine for. I need it for very specific reasons an so far, with a little practice, I think it will serve my purposes. Thank you again. God Bless

    Thank you for this video. Please do you think the deep cut blade would be better to cut glitter cardstock? And also how long would it last? My auto blade dulls very fast because I cut onl7 cardstock

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  5 років тому +1

      A deep cut blade is helpful for cutting thicker materials like craft foam. You may want the premium blade instead which is a stronger, more durable blade than the standard ratchet or autoblade types. Thicker or even fibrous type materials will dull the blade quicker than expected. So the lifetime of a blade is really all in how you use it as well as how frequently you use it. I always keep extra blades on hand and I make sure that if I'm cutting paper, I use a blade specifically for paper. Kind of like fabric shears... only use for fabric or you risk making them dull if you cut paper with them. ;-)

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  5 років тому +1

      Hi Misy. I'm sorry to see you're having problems. Usually when no cuts are made but the software shows it working is because the blade isn't fully seated in the holder. Make sure to pull out the handle on the main tool holder (marked with a red circle), line up the grooves of the autoblade and push down until there is no gap between the blade and the holder. Then push the handle in again to lock into place. This ensures your blade adjusts appropriately per the software settings. If a gap exists between the blade and holder, the blade cannot adjust correctly. Hope this helps resolve the cutting issue you encountered.

    Can the auto blade cut craft foam?

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  6 років тому +1

      HI Lawanda :) Yes, your Cameo can cut craft foam with the auto blade! Depending on the thickness of the foam, you may need to play with the cut settings a bit.
      Blade - 10 - thinner foam, adjust blade down especially if your blade is scoring or cutting into your mat
      Speed - 1
      Force (thickness on older software versions) - 33
      Double Cut - If double cut doesn't seem to do the job, you can send the cut job through again. Just don't unload the mat before sending to cut again.

    • @lawandapillay193
      @lawandapillay193 6 років тому

      Dina Schliecker thank you. Because I was wondering if I needed to purchase a deep cut blade as well. So I guess it's not necessary is it? I work a lot with glitter foam that has the adhesive backing

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  6 років тому +1

      I am a big fan of the deep cut blade. ;-) It probably wouldn't be a bad investment to get a deep cut blade for this type of material and only use it for that. Then you don't risk dulling the auto blade swapping between material types. Just remember to change the blade type from auto to ratchet in the software & manually adjust the blade depth.

    Should the autoblade be at 0 to start?

    • @bakedonmaple1196
      @bakedonmaple1196  5 років тому

      No, it doesn't need to be. The software will make the depth adjustments based on the material settings. But if you notice it isn't adjusting to the correct depth, be sure the blade is fully seated in the holder with zero gaps and is locked in place. You can manually adjust it to 10, then back down to 0 again to try as a 'reset'. And, if all else fails, dump the autoblade and use the good ol trusty ratchet blade. :)
