In 1992 when I was U10’s I won at the CQ comp jumping 1.35m. My best ever was 1.41m. The kid that won it that year equaled the record of 1.45m. The strange thing was he was from North Queensland (NQ) and we often competed against each other in little athletes and I always had his number. In those times Mackay didn’t have a tartan track/field so we were all so used to competing on grass. When this lad showed up to the QLD titles he was well adjusted because Townsville has a tartan field. He did excellent. In the 100m dash most other kids had spikes and we had to get the balls of our feet wrapped in tape. Still did alright though. 4 in the final. A girl friend of mine from school became Australian champion in the girls 100m. She came second in every event leading up to the national championship. A girl from another part of Mackay would always beat Kim in the last 10-20 meters but at the nationals she had a great start, held her top speed longer than the field and blew them and her nemesis away! I was so proud of her! From U10’s we were constantly running mid to high 13’s on grass. My best mate Jay still has the record at our school for to boys U10 100m. I was usually within arms reach of him though. Jays record has stood since 1992! That’s 29 years. From memory it was a 13.5 seconds. I have the records somewhere, I’ll have a look.

That is so cool. I am off to Regionals tomorrow for under 10’s school sports. I’m not as good as you, my best jump is 1.30 so I don’t think I’ll make it to state. Have you got any tips for me? (When I made it to state this year it was for little aths and I had to jump scissor kick)
