I loved this game and Hot Pursuit. If you started a race with many laps, and 1 or 2 opponents in hot pursuit mode, chances were your opposition would get busted 3 times before the end of the race, thus eliminating them completely. So you could win a race just by driving the speed limit, and cops wouldn't mind you at all.
I wish they would do a modern remake of this. I loved the fact that you had to repair your cars so it would actually incentivize you to not to do things like smashing into a wall to help your corner.
This game makes me remember my childhood, the good old days. Even though I was terrible at video games, I will always remember waking up at 6 AM, getting on my ps one, and playing games like this and Crash bandicoot for hours.

I think the helicopter in this is more like the real thing. Because unlike Hot Pursuit 2, Hot Pursuit(2010). Those games the helicopter drop stuff in your path(exploding barrels, shoot missiles, drop spike strips)

I agree with you about Vista and 7, sure some of the options are good, but sacrificing some of my favourite old games for the privilege doesn't seem worth it sometimes.
i just find that older games actually had more gameplay to it. they were a challenge...and actual GAME. nowadays its all graphics and its almost like watching a movie...which is sorta cool in a way, but i would just watch TV if i wanted that. i still play Doom 1 to this day because i still havent played an FPS better than it except for maybe Unreal Tournament. and there's almost NO story to those games. run around and shoot. but its so well made and fun. i played Halo 4 and it was easy andboring
Try checking around for patches, your copy probably only has software graphics support by default. I had to do the same to get it to use my video card.

for pc? if yes, try enabling 3D acceleration. you're probably running it in software mode.
