I understand that many people whom have lost their jobs for whatever reason during the Pandemic may be facing financial hardship but I cannot understand why long term benefit claimants with kids say they are so poor. They are given benefits to pay all of a large proportion of their rent, a much reduced Council Tax bill and money for food, bills etc. In addition to that they rrecieve £20 a week extra plus £15 in food or vouchers for their kids lunches. No one else on legacy benefits got anything and they are not constantly complaining. Effectively you are getting 3 lots of money for food and you still can't feed your kids. Really? I will guess you probably have a car and the latest mobile phone et c though.

I work in welfare benefits giving emergency payments and it sickens me the amount of money some people get! Child benefit £20 then £13 for additional kids weekly. Tax credits and income support and free school meal vouchers.
Example - woman 2 kids £33 weekly child benefit, spa for kids with ADHD £350 month, disabled child element and carets element on universal credit alongwith personal and child allowance totals £1200 universal credit a month then school meal vouchers £15 week each child. Clothing grants £150 each child every year. Full rent paid and only liable for water and sewerage rates of council tax at £33 a month so how can she not afford food??? Baffles and sickens me! Single mother one kid example £20 child benefit weekly and £15 school meal voucher normal Universal Credit for herself and one child monthly £630 again no rent and reduced ctax. Ok it’s not millions of money but that’s basic rates after rent in line with us on normal wage. It’s just take take take, me me me!!!
