Here's what the movie is about.
    Spoiler Alert.
Frank was placed in a life support machine just like his father was. The room with the AI is the machine keeping his brain alive and interacting with him. The dreams were his last moments before he died, intertwined with the best moment of his life when he met the love of his life at the coffee shop. The prison was when the AI would interact with his mind taking him away / awakening him from his dream state. In order for him to leave the prison / AI interaction he had to change one part of his dream, the waitress's / coffee shop owner's name, thus keeping him in that dream state (and possibly his brain not interacting with the AI anymore).

In my opinion, the ending is real, like when at the end the reporters where talking about the end of the regime, the bombs etc all happend for real, it was not just a resistance it was a legit fall of an empire, i think the ending was either memory of his friend. The a.i was legit his friend, he gained self awarness. Plus he prob was not the only ai out there. The whole concept was where the gov was totally ai. Either way loved the movie.

The government was definitely not total AI. As told by reporters at the end, government workers abandoned the prisons two years prior.
This prison was one of "many black ops sites" abandoned. They said Frank was the only known survivor and two hundred (or something) diseased prisoners have been found.
They mentioned the name of the previous president that led all these human rights violations.

And none of that was real. It was all in the chamber. That 'exposition' was just part of the interrogation programme. He never actually escaped, and having given the computer the location of the USB followed by the ending with the Howard-cam, it shows it ends with him still in the chamber, but happy and thinking he's met love.
The bad guys got what they needed for him, and instead of torturing him for all eternity as they could have chosen to do, they gave him eternal happiness as he died. The ending of the movie was the end of the interrogation, which also signalled the end of his life. The entire movie took place within his mind, as he lay on a table probed and dying. The ISN never fell, and because he gave up the location of the virus thinking he had finally escaped, now it never will.
I want to see a sequel to this movie.

@@jamielonsdale3018 I completely 100% agree while at the same time I do like how the director ended it not stating what exactly happened so really it's left to the viewer to interpret so there isn't any 100% real ending it's all debatable which is to me a perfect ending, one that the viewer can decide

The first time he escaped the chamber (which was not real), the path to the outside as well as the outside itself, looked very similar to the second time he escaped. In both the cell is underground and in some kind of desert. So if the second time was real, how come his mind (in the first escape) constructed the actual reality without knowing about what it was like, since he did not know where he and his cell was. So I think both escapes are unreal.

Excellent thinking. The truth is actually revealed at the end of the movie when Howard says that he is a life support operator. Frank is the old man dying that was kept alive for 4 months, and he's dreaming the whole movie. Waitress is his wife when they first met. You can also see by the old computer buttons, when he "escapes" at the end, that the computer controls from his real life memory was actually very old. Not really what you would expect in a futuristic timeline where AI is really controlling the prisons.

    Brilliant Ending.
The moviegoer is left in the same position as the detainee.
You don't know what to believe,
Nothing is 100% each outcome is debatable.
That's what I think the director's goal was.
really it's left up to the viewer to decide what the ending really is.
Either he escaped and Found Love or He's still in the chamber.

Vishway Seetaram I think he was 0laying the role of his father's memories of his life before they hooked him up to the life support system. Otherwise, what would the point have been of relating that to Frank's experience in the prison room which they referrer to as an LSO (life support operator). Not that hard to put these two things together if you think about it. When the father dies by asking to be taken off LSO the memories changed a little bit but for much better and that was because the father had lived his life and was much happier after passing away rather than being hooked up to the LSO

    • @cashflo4124
      @cashflo4124 5 років тому +11

Once HOWARD new he lied, I think the LSO tricked him into thinking he left the room and he led them straight to the virus chip he had created.
However, HOWARD maintained his duties and kept him alive only in his mind and is living out life through his mind based of previous knowledge and memories. Cause he would have died if he stayed in that room and by telling the LSO, HOWARD, that he knew what was up all along about knowing his reason for being there but lied about it, the LSO created a reality where Frank thinks he really escaped and by doing so lead them right to the virus chip.
Ultimately they both got what they wanted. They foreshadowed this earlier in the film bout his Father being kept alive longer than he really should have.
He could have really escape but based on all the foreshadowing and the way the movie unfolds, especially the first attempt to escape, its highly unlikely.
He might not have never been in a room to begin with. The whole thing could’ve been in his mind. It’s was also weird that everything was a liquid diet for him just like a vegetable in the hospital much like his Father’s last years.

Just finished watching this movie on Netflix. Better review than I expected, you had some insightful commentary on the movie. I agree that the ending was a little ambiguous as to what you're supposed to take away from the scene. I also wanted a little more story on the outside world and felt like they could've taken out some of the repetative scenes to add that in but overall it was surprisingly good.

  • @EduardBrichuk

The movie is like Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise but I have no idea what the ending meant; whether he saved Howard or whether he ended up accepting the dream state as his reality like the "Inception reality of old people" I really don't understand. I feel like they could of done a better job portraying their final result. Otherwise, great movie with confusing and thoughtful plots.

he's still in the chamber at the end. he traded the information about where the virus was so that he could continue to live in his fantasy forever (Howard was a life support operator, similar to the story he conveyed about his dad being on life support but wanting to die). the chick (Gabby) was working with him (that's why they kept joking about her knowing his name). and why they showed her in the cell too, because they caught her as well. (+-, I'd have to process it more to iron out all of the details, but that's the short of it).

This is actually one of many intepretations, which may seem rather obscure, dark, but I guess is up to each one to choose to believe in a happy ending or search deeper and maybe find the dark end.
But makes a lot of sense, because of the underlying story about his dad, it kinda reminds me of sucker punch, where stuff is not what it looks like.

That or the program wore the main character down until it won the info.

My take is Frank knows he can't escape the simulation and knowingly surrenders the USB drive or an actual fake memory of the USB and accepts his new life with Gabby. Knowing if his body can't be free at least his mind can be.
Both escapes had the same interior of the prison, just different exteriors based on the coffee shop photos we as the audience can know for a fact he never escaped but Frank knows he doesn't need to anymore he has Gabby and gave the ISN what they wanted

    • @ocdmusic
      @ocdmusic 3 роки тому +4

Yeah I definitely think Frank is on life support, the LSO keeping him alive, the food and drinks are like what you might get through feeding tubes. I think Frank is in a coma and dying but being kept alive but he wants out, he wants to die but he is confused and doesn't know he is on life support or dying. I feel like the infinity chamber is inside his head, like when he escapes and all the times he goes to the cafe its like a mixed up bad dream or hallucination.
It kinda reminds me more of Vanilla Sky in a way more than Edge of Tomorrow. Both times when he escapes the infinity chamber its really really bright too like when you are dying you supposedly see a bright light, the fact that the inside of the infinity chamber is all black kind of reminds me of the inside of a coffin or a funeral home or something like that. Maybe a metaphor for his current state of mind "being in the dark"
Then when he finally turns off the LSO and really escapes but this time its for real but he really dies this time?
