Many years ago I had to go to the Medical & Dental Building in downtown Seattle where they had the Westinghouse Selectomatic elevators. One of the most fun trips I ever had on an elevator, there was ZERO delay when you pressed the desired floor button and they took off like a rocket. It was a blast.
LOVE to have that kind of hospitality here. Too bad harassment is the "kindness" we get here.
Pre-Door, Early Door, Pre-Opening.
Heard all 3 from the industry.
I do remember reading history, somewhere, Otis called the time-saving leveling practice "Premature Door Open" (Pre-Door for short), when it was introduced, as a time-cutting measure to increase traffic flow to about 200 extra passengers per day, on most lift systems in the early 1900's.
Boscov's in Downtown Binghamton NY has some old Westinghouse Selectomatics.
Awesome.
That's really cool
There is really nice Westinghouse elevators in the apt building my friend lived at and they were so fast
These are nice.
people down there are nicer. it flew up to 17. they must keep that bumper. speed is part of the fun. their MPE is enclosed. most MPEs have a view. they must keep this elevator.
Bad news: The Westinghouse Select O Matic elevators in the metro tower was modernized by Otis you should check it out
If I ever get there again.
Otis and KONE did bring it back, but it's more of a novelty, than useful (miniscule amount of travel).
Actually, Pre-Opening and Pre-Door, came from the actual Otis term: "Premature Door Opening". Either is right. :D
Yes. You're right on that, but I was referring to the fact that many filmers call it "Classic Leveling" on Otis elevators.
it is when the door opens, but the elevator has not leveled to the ground. It should be leveled by the time the door is fully open.
Was there someone with you?
HOLY S***, HE SAID "PRE-DOOR"!!! :P
Try letting Security give you a green light to ride an elevator up here. There's reasons I skip buildings with security.
Because it's a Westy? What?
If you're talking about Pre-Door, it's a term used for all elevators where doors open before they stop. It's also known as Early Door.
Nice elevators! You put "2102" in the date this video was recorded, you need to change it to "2012".
What exactly is classic leveling?
When you press the 7th floor it closes straightaway (sometimes)
The date on the description is 2102.
@dieselducy- how did you get good ratings on your videos, I'm a new elevator filmer :D
This building may have a freight elevator in it.
These have been modded and unfortunately they would not let us ride today.
uploaded 4 seconds ago o_O
Because it's a Westinghouse, not Otis.
