World History Unit 4: Early civilizations in Africa and the Americas

In this unit, we will be exploring some of the great civilizations in Africa and comparing them to those in the Americas. We'll see how these regions resembled each other in terms of patterns of agriculture, development, spread of villages, emergence of chiefdoms and the early rise of kingdoms. In Africa we'll see the rise and splendor of the the Kush Kingdom and their capital city of Meroë and the Aksum Kingdom which followed. In Mesoamerica, we'll see the emergence of the Maya and their great pyramids and investigate the mystery of the Nazca Lines in Peru.
