New for 2020, this smaller version of the SRK in SK-5 carbon steel might appeal to people with smaller hands, or those who want something smaller than the 6-inch original.
Will buy this one. Bought my first srk in 91-92, when i did service. It is a really good knife. Especially for climate in north Sweden, you want a rubber handle in the winter. This shorter blade suits my needs better. Good vidja👍
My srk-c tip snapped off ,10 min of use. I baton some kindling out of this soggy rotten pine block I had on my porch , I busted it into quarters with an axe then the rest with the knife down to 1/2 sicks I tried to carve feather sticks but I busted a blood vessel in my hand at work, so I stuck the tip into the log drew the wood across the blade to make feather sticks with out causing any more discomfort to my hand. And when I pryed the knife out of the log the top 1/4-1/2 inch of my tip snapped little to no effort no where near what you were just doing in the video. So I would exercise caution. But the brighter side is I took the knife and ground the broken spot down and retipped it into more of a spear point So now not only is the tip thicker it is a much more bushcrafty shape to carry. So I don't exactly blame the knife maybe the soggy log really grabbed it or something. The knife was great up until that point and it been along time since I have broken a blade.
Nice review and thx for the tip test. I was kinda worried but what you showed made me confident it's strong enough to get these grubs out of a rotten tree. And I might take of the false edge all together and make it a somewhat shorter but stronger knife.
I love mine but my only complaint is that the edge rubs on the sheath when I pull it out have you noticed this happening at all. It’s quite annoying to have a freshly sharpened blade only for it to be dulled on the sheath.
No kidding mine will shave wicked you put it in the sheath and pull it out and it hardly cuts paper. Like WTF I have to pull knife out , strop it a couple times and back to normal.
Nice knife but needs a new name. It's not an SRK. A true SRK would outperform it all day long doing survival tasks. Maybe call it the BRK (Bushcraft Rescue Knife) instead since it is more of a bushcraft size knife. That being said, I still plan to off my Garberg and put this bugger on my belt!
I take your point, but they just shrunk the SRK. It still looks like an SRK and you can use it to do most of the same things. I think people with smaller hands will prefer it. I'm OK with the name.
The SRK original means Search and Rescue Knife. The people changed the name to Survival and Rescue Knife and CS went along with it. I agree with replacing your Garberg with this one. The only thing you miss is the extended pommel but you get a bit bigger and more all round knife in return.
Not true John. People that own the older AUS8's and Carbon V's have not had these tip problems. The newer SK5's have thinner tips and are having problems with brittleness and/or a heat treatment issue.
@@JohnB-dr8sk I own two SRK SK5. One has very thick tip. Another copy has very thin tip. Heat treatment issues? Maybe. Inconsistency of grinding at the factory? Obviously! Maybe L. Thompson stopped giving a damn when he was planning the sale of Cold Steel.
wow finally a flatgrind and not a hollow very interesting thank you for showing it off

Respect from Poland thanks for video.
Good review. Was on the fence with it but now I’m definitely grabbing one. Seems like the perfect midsized knife. Thanks. 🤙🏼
It’s still a “cheap” knife . If the tip breaks.... regrind it. New stronger tip .
I do the same even if it was an expensive knife...
Looks to be the perfect size and sharp 👌!!

It's a good, basic knife; I'm sure it will meet your expectations.

Baffles me why they didn't have a better steel option
The Kraton design changed vs the full size versions. This compact has more of a diamond pattern.
Are you referring to the "nipple" pattern on the full size?
@@theWZZA Yes
@@HalloweenStalker666 the older carbon v USA srks have that diamond pattern

Are they keeping you in a dog cage???? Poor guy
You give specs like the rest of us don't know. It is hollow ground. The tips break because they were broke by idiots!

The ordinary SRK in SK-5 steel is hollow ground. The SRK-C is flat ground.
Is it full tang?
@@Joshie_Curtis the tang is enclosed by the rubber handle, but it extends all the way to the butt.
