Dometic 300 Toilet Problem and Replacement

- I know it's been a while, but I think this needs to be out there. We had to replace our toilet in our brand new camper after just 1 trip. I hope this helps people to understand what happens with these units and how to fix it. Thanks for watching.

Hey man, So we were having odor problems with the toilet in our trailer. even when our black tank was super clean our bathroom smelled bad. I contacted our dealer and they had no idea about this problem. I sent them the link to this video and they contacted Dometic and now we are getting a new toilet installed in our RV for free!

RV East Coast awesome! I’m glad it helped you out. I don’t know how the dealers don’t know about this, but ours didn’t either. The woman from Dometic made it sound like they knew they had a problem with that toilet.

I read a review on Amazon that said pee can run down the front from "missing" the bowl and it builds up internally. Possible it's a design flaw and not an actual leak.
Andrew S Our camper was brand new, and nobody had stood up to pee in the toilet at all, so that was not the case here. This was a seal between the two halves that leaks. I can see where it could do something similar if stuff ran down the front also. Thanks for watching.

Thank you! We have been having the same problem in our brand new 2020 camper. It came with a 300 model. They are exchanging it for a 310 model at no charge. Our dealer is helping us. Started noticing odor on second trip.

Yes! Thank you! Same problem here with our 2020 RV. I have been going crazy trying to figure out where this smell was coming from! No problems our first 3 trips...then all of a sudden the stink started. Thank you for solving the mystery! Will be calling the company when we get home!
Thanks for the post. I have the same problem. Called Dometic and they offered to send me the 310 but for $75.
Joe Cruz That’s still cheaper than buying it outright.
When I talked to Dometic they said the 310 upgrade was $50 and with a slow close wood seat it would be $75 total. I disassembled my toilet and the quad ring sealing the upper bowl to the next lower section was pinched and rolled during assembly causing the leak. This was described to me by Dometic to the tee. Dometic sent me the exact replacement toilet for free.
Rick Moore Yea. I paid the $50 to upgrade to a 310 because I like the porcelain bowl much better.
@@CumminsCamping I think that is a good move, my rough in is only 9.5" so no go.
Rick Moore Yea, we cleared the 310, but the 320 would not fit in ours or we would have gone that route.

How much space did you have from wall to center of flange. I know they told you 9 5/8 but what was your actual space?

I bought a dometic toilet, within a few months the flush system failed, shortly after that the spout on the cassette fell off and went down the sewage dump point. The slide on the toilet is always very stiff and I'm worried it's going to snap, ill be in trouble if that happens, Always trying to lubricate the mechanism but it doesn't help, won't be able to use it, having enough trouble repairing the issues now. Contacted dometic and they didn't seem to give a dam about the problems. Looks like i may have to throw this $700 one out and buy a decent toilet.

I don't think the seal in ours is good. It won't hold water in the bowl.

Had this issue twice now. Did the porcelain toilet fix the issue for you? Dometic has sent me two replacement 300 series because of this issue. I'm starting to think I'm just fat and cracking it or something 😂
We haven’t had that problem since we went with the porcelain toilet. I have had to change the rubber seal for the flush ball due to not holding water.
In a 2018 forest river wildwood, there is not enough wall clearance on the backside for that elongated toilet, just for yall who have that model. Sadness in me ❤! Thought i was getting an awesome toilet to replace this piece of crap. Literally.
Sadly, that is the case in a lot of campers. This one just fit in ours. You could possibly change brands, but then you are stuck with the bill unfortunately. Thanks for watching.
I am getting ready to install our toilet. Does anyone think it would be a problem if I put a small bead of silicone caulk on the ring when installing the toilet?
Silicone may cause more problems than it solves on the rubber seal. Over time the silicone will deteriorate and the seal could fail prematurely. Better off installing dry.

Were the dimensions of the 310 the same as the 300?
Martin Johansen No, the 310 is slightly longer, so you would have to measure to be sure it fits. Not sure of the exact measurements now.

I have that same problem, after putting in two seals and a tech who found nothing wrong. I'm on the phone with Dometic right now and they are giving me the run a round. Who did you call ?????
ken watson I called Dometic directly after my dealer told me it was a six week wait to get in. I had no problems with Dometic, they were very nice about it. Don’t give up.
