- We had the chance to get up close and personal with "The Black Ghost". This 1970 Challenger RT SE with a 426 HEMI backed by a 4 speed and 4.10 gears was a street racing legend in the Detroit area. The Triple Black (Black exterior, Black Interior and the Rare Black Gator Top) was known for street racing people, Winning and then driving off into the night! With all the hype of this car over the years, Dodge is building a limited production buzz model challenger based off of it. With an alleged 310 to be built... expect a step price tag!

Great story, but it's a 4,000 lb.14 second car. Likely 13's with slicks, ignition and no mufflers. Not exactly street sweeper even in the early 70's.
Totally agree with you and Uncle Tony! The Qualls kid is cashing out on the original untouched Challenger and some bullshit street racing story which cannot be proved. I feel sorry for the sucker who bought it for a million dollars. He could of had a restored 70 Hemi Challenger, a 70 Hemi Cuda and a 69 Charger for that money with change left over.
The rust holes in the floor pans shaved off a couple tenths and allowed for a Fred Flintstone boost. The Africa stickers added 200HP. The police association sticker gave the drivetrain immunity from needing the normal preventive maintenance one would have had to perform over the course of 145k miles of hard driving and maintaining an “undefeated” status in the Wooodward scene.
Definitely the old one, the raw character and the story makes it awesome!

@@327JohnnySS Curious how there is no mention of the car at all from back in the day. There were several racing magazines that covered street racing. Not one article, not one line, nothing at all about what is actually a stock 4400 lb 14 second car. Just a scam.

Story is bullshit made up by the son who owns a production company that specializes in creating stories around things people are trying to sell or promote.
What an excellent car story! Sure hope the new owner will respect and keep that story alive. I'm choosing old over new. I've never seen that roof before.

None of the heavy hitters who raced that area in that time period have come forward about this car and it's validity of being a street (racing} legend. My take is sure that car traveled thru the area and peeps saw a cool black Hemi Challenger that came around time to time and vanished so to me that's the legend. Remember the owner was a Cop and if caught street racing he definitely would face stiff disciplinary action or worse.Being a Cop and hanging out there sooner or later someone might recognize him and he could not afford this.
Should of changed the title to going to see "fantasy" for 1.072mil lmao.... sad but true.

Remember the Black Ghost from back in the day. Iconic car with lots of stories. Back when Challenger was really a muscle car. It's a true survivor. IMO you can't go wrong with an original Challenger. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and stay well.
Can you show me any contemporaneous mention of the car anywhere? Even one article actually from the time when this stock 14 second (at best) car was dominating street racing where you had to have a 10 second car at least to not get laughed at?

Graveyard Cars, the guy is a Mopar affecianado, he was big until a few years back, but has since kinda all bit disappeared although he still restores them, but they all come out just like from the factory.

Imagine if they made a movie about this car and all the mysteries of winning those street races. He never stopped and just faded away into the night like a ghost.
dumb, but the son is a film maker and a story teller. i'm sure he make up the story in coordination with dodge, mecum, and the seller to get a higher price and later make a movie. Every car has a story, it's just how you dress up the story.
@@leemp337 Why is it dumb? I saw a documentary about his father and how people who got beaten called it the black ghost the was fascinating. I'm guessing your a Disney or Hollyweird remake fan? This actually happened and has a better believable story that people could relate to.
Ive never heard someone talk about the black ghost. Theres a youtube channel called uncle tony's garage and he first hand has inspected the black ghost and says its a bone stock 14 second car which wouldnt have held its own against most of the woodward ave cars. Also the son is a film maker. The story of the car is cool enough but I doubt it was as fast as the story claims.

nice car i would like to have it. never beaten on the streets i'm not so sure about that, bone stock hemi 426 with power steering bone stock, 14 second car. will be a good movie i hope because that's what the hype is for.

Cool car for sure. But lets be real the so call legend is more hype than anything else . A stock hemi REALLY I'm sure he did do some street racing up against stock small blocks and big block and knowing the hemi I know he may have done pretty good in some of those races but it was no more than what any other guys were doing at the same time.

i don't know if this was known a 1064 426 HEMI with 4 barrel carb nascar banned it won every race it entered don't bring it back they offered it 2 carb models in street cars it legal now in nascar! about time 1070 rolled around nascar had wing cars on track & speed to fast! smaller motor less special cars, i give a bill E ford in race in 1985 broken oil fitting he last 2 laps over 5 miles behind field & with in a 100 laps he un lapped himself 2 times & won the race with out caution at all! this was with smaller cars and engines like 212 mph

Nice story, but that car was and is bone stock, not even headers on it, so it was a 14 second car at best, back then there were cars street racing in Detroit running 10's and the Gapp and Roush car ran 9's , the Black Ghost would have had it's doors blown off by ,alot of the Detroit racers in that era. No way it was King of Woodward Blvd.

lol, 14 second car back in its day. prolly high 14 or low 15 now. Every car has a story, it's just how you dress up the story. the buyer got suckered. son, dodge, mecum, new owner are all in on the scam for the next car movie. the son is a story teller and a film maker.

Hate to be a Debbie downer but the hype about this car being a top street racer in Detroit is a bit off, a 14 second car on a good night, Silver Bullet was a 10 sec car, it's a nice mopar with all the bells and whistles that a true street racer would never have.
