I only discovered Versailles in May 2018. Since then I´ve been re-watching all 3 seasons THREE TIMES over.. Absolutely amaising show!!! Make me whant to go France or rea about it's history.

Il dit pluôt qu'il est obsédé par tout ce qui est français, la langue, la musique, il cite des groupes français actuels, et qu'il a dû du coup être français dans une vie antérieure. Pas vraiment des liens directs avec cette série si ce n'est qu'elle fait partie de ce monde français qui l'obsède.
I have a whole ancestral line prior to King Charles I of England. My ancestors were Lords and also have a connection to King Edward III. I am also French. I was drawn to this before I was even knew my background and I've known for a long time now. It's almost like I can't help myself from watching, reading, etc. about past times like these. I've had strong feelings about these times, almost like I'm still connected somehow. I know that it must sound strange, but I guess it's just born in us. It wouldn't surprise me if you were French. We are all still here just in a different time. :) I know a lot about my background due to records but too much to share here. :)
Me too, I have been studying history for a long time now. I studied about Egypt, England, Scotland, and many more. But when I came to know about Louis and versailles and all. I felt like I was home , like truly home.

Sorry, but the females' costumes were horrible. They were wearing the same outfits day in day out, not to mention the colours of those outfits. The men's clothes, instead, we're pretty good, especially the king's, his brother's and the Chevalier's. Having said that, I loved the series. The Sun King is my favourite king and, in my opinion, the greatest 👑 king of all times.
Louis's first official mistress, Louise de la Vallière is my grandmother (obviously a number of times over but I did not feel the need to type G-G-G incessantly) which is a unique and for myself, an important part of our genealogy in France and at the court of Versailles. Interestingly, Louise gave Louis 4 children, illlegit but still 2 of the 4 children surviving and following our family tree from the early 1400's in France to Nouvelle France (Canada) where we have , along with a number of other French-Canadian families, an unbroken and direct line back to Louis in this case (my siblings and I, 12th generation in Québéc). This movie looks exceptionally interesting and I just happened to come across it.
Oh, I would not be suprised ! The number of people that exist between say, France and in my case, Canada , who are related are in a massive number. We have been doing this geneolgy work as a famille since the 1920s and absolutely , so many many individuals are related ; especially when marriages in both France and the "New World" produced so many progeny. For example, my relatives who were always on the The King's Sovereign Council of New France (province of Québéc) but what's important to say is that marriages could produce 10-20 children. This specific grandfather I speak of since the 1630's in Canada, had 21 children , so it becomes a massive , incredible increase in relatives, as each of those children have their own children, ete ; numbers are extraordinarily!

Cette addictive série est une grande découverte! J'ai été agréablement surpris en la regardant. Les personnages sont attachants (Louis, Philippe et son mignon, Bontemps, Fabien), les costumes, les dialogues et les combats sont très bien rendus, la musique est belle. Bref, du Game of Thrones version française, à Versailles qui plus est! On en redemande! ;) Vivement la saison 2 et espérons que Canal Plus ne s'arrêtera pas en si bon chemin. Enfin, cette série donne envie de s’intéresser à cette période fatidique et emblématique de l'Histoire de France: développement des arts et des sciences, intrigues de Cour, Monarchie absolue, rayonnement de la France...
Snaggle Toothed It's easy tout say that when you are british (or australian, etc.) but for us who don't speak english it's more difficult because we must learn the english. I think it's not a war which you won because it's ridiculous to think like that. I think the english "won" because it is more simple to learn but french is a beautiful language too. And for information, you are not the post speaking language. I just want you calm down and you respect us who is obligated to learn english. And sorry for my bad english but I'm french and I learn the english belong 5 years only.

The moment I saw Alex (Philippe), I knew "Versailles" had stolen my heart and Duc d'Orleans, together with his lover (le Chevalier de Lorraine) and his brother (le Roi Soleil Louis XIV.), would be my eternal dreams.
Isn't it true that "Versailles" is more than just a series? The charm has been climaxed in every aspect: the story, the casting, the scenes... everything is beautiful like a dream but still "raw" like real life. It does not make you love. It makes you infatuated!

There is something quite magical and unique about every aspect of its making. I hope they do at least ten seasons. A dream come true. Philippe mesmerises me. I've read quite a lot and seen quite a few movies but nowhere have I found such a fabulous Monsieur. I can't tell if Monsieur was that adorable in real life, but no doubt Alex is an angel.
This show is magnificent, to see the glorious of Versailles, the grande & the beauty of France, Philippe Duc Orleans played by Alexander is so handsome with such beautiful eyes, & ruling of Louis XIV the sun king.
Excellente série; les costumes sont somptueux, les acteurs très intelligents; brillamment joué - Ils ont su capter les caractères des personnages avec finesse, précision et grande justesse (quoique je n'étais pas de cette époque pour en témoigner LOL, mais quand même : louis XIV = signe astro vierge = cérébral, intellectuel, humaniste, réfléchi. Etc. Un acteur est un excellent acteur quand à partir d'un simple regard, une expression à peine esquissée, on perçoit toute la gamme des émotions. Et c'est ce qui se passe avec eux tous. Jck

All cast is British playing French people except for a French actress who plays a British person. I'm guessing this was on purpose. I love the series I just find it curious.
Not quite Ubaldo. It's more international than that. French actresses also play Louis' Queen, Claudine, and Agathe. Chevalier and Marchal are played by Canadian actors. Maintenon is played by an Irish actress. The show is done in English because Canal Plus needed to sell it to the widest possible international audiences as it was so expensive to make and they needed to recover their outlay.
Now I have heard that this is not 100% historically true and some liberties were taken, of course. I wanted to say that because, prime example, Louis did never say, at 5:10, he did never say, "I am the State". But, that's ok, the show is wonderful looking ! Can't wait to find it on a network where I am to just binge watch for hours and hours ! A la prochaine, cheers.
Le scénario me fais rappeler le film avec Kate Blanchette liaisons dangereuses il est magnifique cet épisode et quel beau titre Versailles j adore c est le ressenti entre un un mix de romantisme et violence ....hum! The best character in this show is Phillippe Duc d'Orléans. This show is CAMP. It is not to be taken too seriously! If you expect this show to be an historically correct drama you will NOT enjoy it.
You're right, it is a farce. But it'd be a better farce if it didn't try so hard to take itself so seriously. The worse parts are all of the melodramatic attempts at introspection by Louis. They should have made Louis a back-up character and made his brother the focus. A cross-dressing royal sibling forever in the King's shadow? That's a compelling notion. Just another King that gets away with crapping on anything and everyone? That show has been done a million times, and done better than this too.

Now I have heard that this is not 100% historically true and some liberties were taken, of course. I wanted to say that because, prime example, Louis did never say, at 5:10, he did never say, "I am the State". But, that's ok, the show is wonderful looking ! Le scénario me fais rappeler le film avec Kate Blanchette liaisons dangereuses il est magnifique cet épisode et quel beau titre Versailles j adore c est le ressenti entre un un mix de romantisme et violence ....hum! The best character in this show is Phillippe Duc d'Orléans. This show is CAMP. It is not to be taken too seriously! If you expect this show to be an historically correct drama you will NOT enjoy it.

You're right, it is a farce. But it'd be a better farce if it didn't try so hard to take itself so seriously. The worse parts are all of the melodramatic attempts at introspection by Louis. They should have made Louis a back-up character and made his brother the focus. A cross-dressing royal sibling forever in the King's shadow? That's a compelling notion. Just another King that gets away with crapping on anything and everyone? That show has been done a million times, and done better than this too.
