Oh my, oh my. This is just amazing. After much gnashing of teeth over the last year or so, I recently dumped Adobe LR +Photoshop but have been missing it's catalogue qualities - which, however good, was just so time consuming to do keywords etc etc to the extent where I sometimes started losing the will to live. Anthony, you've really fired my rocket with this video and I beg of you to do a real in depth job about it, as per what you were asking. Am thinking along the workflow line of initially using DXO for maximum quality (I feel it is by far the best for RAW development, noise etc etc unless someone knows different) .... then bang the results into a folder, use Excire on same and then edit in Luminar or whatever. On face value, that seems like Nirvana to me. I salute you mate.
Thanks Roger! I salute you right back. I'll put something together about how to get the most out of Excire to organise. But, as I mentioned, it's very intuitive!
Yes! Please do a full review. Wondering if it has features similar to bridge or photo mechanic. I presume you can add your own keywords Your explanations of this software was more comprehensive and has intrigued me more. Thanks for the videos.
I've been after something like this for so long for sorting my photos but didn't want to get locked into Adobe's subscription for Lightroom. Thanks for showing this. Ta for the code too!
Very helpful overview. Could you please do another video to go into the mechanics of setting up/changing the keywords and assigning names to the faces Excire finds.
Really interesting, but a bit confused. As a Lightroom user, I have all my cataloguing and keywords there, plus I often have several versions (including virtual copies). I understand that I can add the folders to Excire and that will import them, but does it import the original file or the Lightroom adjusted file and does it take any notice of virtual copies?
Wow! I didn't even know this program existed! I shot 7,000 photographs of 100 different people at a week long event recently, and I was wondering how I was going to tag all of them! I am waiting on Excire to populate ALL of my photographs as I write this. Thanks for posting!
I'd appreciate a full tutorial with showing all possibilities, maybe with not so obvious features. Like, how does it work with other Software, plug-in possibilities, custom keywords (is it possible to teach the software, who certain people are?).
You select exit in Luminar Neo and the Export. If you simply save it, can you undo back to the original from Excire? Does it import the Apple photos library? Does it honor the hidden albums photos?
oooohhhh that is brilliant! I might have a closer look. thank you Anthony for showing. Keywording always sits like a knife in my neck... then you do a few, feel great, only to realise that you have already shot way way more again. For this I am fully okay with AI, even if it maybe only 80-90% correct. It saves time
Hi Anthony! How do I order Excire only? Skylum are only promoting a total package of both Excire and Neo. I already have Neo! Regrads from Felix the Cat. 😼😼
Hi Felix The Cat! I only found out just after finishing the vid, but... you can go here bit.ly/Excire and use the discount code LUMINAR25 to get 25% off Excire Foto 2022! I'm not sure how long the code will be valid for though. ENJOY! Let me know how it goes keywording all your cats 🐈
Really enjoy your videos! Been using Excire and there is one feature I wish they had. When you go to open an external editor from within Excire it opens a list of programs. This list cannot be edited. I have old programs that I no longer use and want to delete them from the list. I would also like to reorder the list to reflect my workflow. Maybe you could reach out to them, they would probably be more open to your suggestions. Thanks for the all the great videos!
I assume the list ist generated by in the system registered Software for photo viewing. A bit like when you use "send to…" when right-clicking on a file in Windows Explorer (provided you use windows). Might be similar on other systems. I guess when you uninstall those unused programs, they disappear from the list.
i love AI for photography, so offcourse i already own Luminar - in ALL the iterations. - and this Excire looks a very nice and usefull AI addition to any photo workflow - BUT (you might have come across my frustrations with Skylum/Luminar) - for there is a BUT - which might compromise the choice of Neo/Excire Being inspired by your AI - photo- editing (You actually have added so many solutions and creative additions to where their software lack stuff - Colorgrading / dodge & burn etc), and not being so fond of Neo anymore, i rekindled my relation with ON1 Photo Raw, and stumbled upon the upcoming version 2023. As always- your an inspiration and a seasoned well founded teacher / instructor
Thanks Gunni for your kind words and thoughtful comment. I will certainly be considering broadening the training on this channel to encompass other editing software going forward.
I downloaded this last week and I thought it would be a rival to ON1 Raw which has this built in, the costs are similar if you buy the bundle. However the biggest turn off is that you can't edit exit metadata. I've just scanned 2000 negatives and 800 slides having something to add keywords great, not being able to add creation date bad! It looks like ON1 has won this battle
Hi Anthony, On another tutorial you asked for some suggestions. Well I have some but I hope you think they are not too basic (its where I'm at at the moment). Suggestion 1- I am trying Excire foto and it looks promising. Can you please advise on a work flow using Luminar Neo and Topaz Photo AI. When I send photo from Excire to Topaz it returns as a DNG instead of tiff. Then I send that to Luminar. or should I send to Luminar first and from Luminar to Topaz photo AI? Suggestion 2- I have been enjoying learning from you how to edit photos, but I do have a number of presets that came over from Luminar AI. Can you explain how best to use these in conjunction with editing in the edit tab. Suggestion 3 - I have a Watcom pro medium tablet, can you look at the best settings for all the buttons using it with Luminar Neo.
Hi Anthony thx for this tutorial I'm working with Luminar Neo last version in a PC but I can't see on my tool bars what you have on yours it is because is PC or I'm doing something wrong?? please if you have some idea Ill appreciate.
This addition management tool EXCIRE sounds and looks good. You said you'd loaded a folder of photos ?? Dumb Q; how 🙈 Also as a LRc person using the catalogue system how do I add from LRc into NEO (if you know what I mean and I use a mac)? As I think I recall - NEO only holds previews of images which means originals remain on main drive?
Neo just references the photos directly from the folder that houses them, so you just need to click the plus icon in Neo to "add folder" and then navigate to the folder you want it to bring in.
Hi Anthony, just found your videos and subscribed, love them. A question, I have both Excire and Luminar Neo software on my pc, when I right click over a pic and ‘open with’ I don’t see Luminar Neo , any ideas?
Yes please, because it is not clear to me wether or not the keywords stay with the image, do they go into the meta data so they would show up in for example Apple photos?
Good evenin from Europe. Just for your info. I have Luminar Neo and I decided today to buy excire applying the discount code and the answer was" this discount code is not more valid". Did you know that?. I'm surprised and obviously disappointed considering that the different videos announcing this combination were published in september. At the end of the month I downloaded the trial version and now I realize that the discount is no more valid. Best regards and thank you very much for your videos
Hi Louis. No I didn't know it wasn't active anymore. I just know it worked when I launched the video. In any case though, it's still very good value for what it does. They've just released v2.0 which is another big step forward with the software.
You may have to train your computer so Excire has NEO in the "open with" options. You do that from your file manager by opening an image by finding and selecting NEO in your program files. Not a big deal. Do it once and it's done for all.
can you give me a bit more detail on how to do this? what do you mean opening an image from file manager? My open with list only shows Luminar 4 Thanks so much

Hi again Anthony. Thanks for the link, I have now bought Excire photo organiser, now could you produce some videos on how to use it and its limitations? Regards from Felix the Cat. 🐱🐱
Hello Anthony, Further to my last message I thought I should just to let you know that Excire got back to me and advised me of another way to open Luminar and everything works now. They said, “In Excire Foto right click on the image on "Show in file browser" and then, in Windows Explorer, open the image by right clicking on -> "Open with" in the desired application.” Kind regards, Aubrey
When the keywords are added/exported in jpeg are they alphabetical or can you rank them? Can you copy the keywords or export/import them to or from a comma delineated text file?
I just noticed you can send images to ACDSee as well. Does EXCIRE also import star ratings and colour ratings from ACDSee? Maybe even existing keywords? I imagine at least star ratings should work for files, where the rating is baked into the image (not possible in RAW).
Anthony, when i use Excire and i use "open with" on a photo, neo does not come up as option. i click "choose application" and navigate to neo, it says "unable to open file" error. any ideas on this? thanks
G'day Anthony This is a massive time saver. Will there be a 'extension price' as a way of saying it, for people whose has Neo already? Havagooday mate Greg
Hey Anthony, I purchased Excire last week. Pretty nice program. I image there's some bugs (or desirables) I hope they're working on resolving as well. My question to you, when I right click on an image to 'open with', the only Luminar program listed (and I have all), is Luminar AI. Neo doesn't show up nor does the Icon when I browse my desktop. Any ideas? Thanks! Matt
@skycreationsllc8368 Haha! Absolutely. Not sure how my response to the other comment ended up here! 😅 But back to Excire, you should have the option when you right click to go to "open with" and then "choose application" and then you can navigate to where you have Neo or whatever app you want installed on your computer. It should remember it from then on.
Hi Anthony! Just a thought, but could you explain the different BLEND modes found in Luminar and in most other brands of photography software? There are so many! I know about 'overlay', 'screen', 'soft light' and 'hard light', but what about the others? 🙀 Thanks from Felix the Cat. 🐱
Hi Felix The Cat 🐈 I like the idea 💡 the blend modes are all driven by maths formula and it can get pretty dry. I know from experience when I do more esoteric and in-depth videos they're very time consuming but not very popular unfortunately.
Thanks Anthony for all your great tutorials, product reviews etc. I'm sure many will find Excire a great package, but I strongly urge everyone to use the 14 day free trial to see if that includes YOU. I mainly hoped it would save me time with keyword tagging and I found the AI all but useless for this. Any white birds, large or small - egrets, ibises, etc are tagged as swans (or not tagged at all), a clump of dried grass in a landscape is a rhinoceros, a biplane becomes a helicopter and countless images get little more than "dark" or "high key" and similar no great use labels. For testing I deliberately used two folders with widely varying subjects - wildlife and birds, and city shots taken in Germany. Speaking of Germany the Excire website continually defaults to German no matter how many times you visit, accept cookies and change your preference to English (no other language choices offered). I'm about to hit uninstall and delete the database. 😞.
Hi Ray. Update your version of Excire. There was a bug for some windows users which has been fixed in the latest free update for those that own the program.
When l try to use the Erase tool in luminar neo it clones part of the image near what l am trying to remove! can you tell me why please l tried to remove some tree branches and the face of a person close to it was partly cloned
Hi Alistair, it's just the AI getting it wrong. You can work in smaller bits at a time and that can yield better results, but... the clone tool is coming out this month which will be a valuable addition and I'll probably be using that a lot more than erase!
When you start with an image in Excire and open it in Luminar Neo, edit the image, and then close Neo, there is nothing that I can see in the Excire UI that indicates the image has been edited. You definitely do not see the edited image in Excire - only the original. Also, there is no icon or tag on the image to indicate that it has been edited. If you re-open the image in Neo, sure enough, the edits are preserved. Seems like a huge deficiency to now know within Excire which images you have edited. I suppose you could use a color to indicate an edited image. Am I missing something?
Hi Steve, that's a good point. But to be expected as Neo holds its edits in its database rather than applying them to the file itself, kinda like lightroom. This is until you export the file and bake those changes in to a new file. How you handle that newly edited file is then up to you. If you want to make the original in some way (I'd think having a keyword "edited" added could be a good method, but yeah, a colour would be an option too). I'll look into things like this a bit more and then put a more comprehensive video together in the near future.
@@AnthonyTurnham Seems like Excire could figure out a way to at least know that the image was edited - possibly by introspecting into the Neo database - and then at the very least display an icon with the thumbnail in Excire. Just a thought. I will ask the Excire team about this and post their reply to chat. Cheers.
I also spotted an issue with tags...Say you have 3 images, and you manually tag 2 of them with "San Francisco". If you then select all three, the tag "San Francisco" will appear as if all 3 are tagged. It seems that it takes the union of all tags, not the intersection (i.e., only the tags that are common) or, better yet, shows which tags apply to all and which apply to some.
I'll look into this too Steve. I've literally started playing around with Excire whilst making the video so I'll do a deeper dive and create a vid with my findings, hints and tips etc.
Will it recognise and utilise keywords you’ve already written to the jpgs’s? I’m pretty sure my 60000 photos are all tagged but would use to check for holes. And then could you continue to write new keywords to the files?
Hi Peter. Yes, absolutely to the discount! You can go here bit.ly/Excire and use the discount code LUMINAR25. As for automatically finding your Photo Library I'm not 100% sure as I'm not a Mac user. I would think though that you just need to point Excire to the top folder and select "import sub-folders" and that should do the trick!
I know I am not in proper video but I have to ask you to help me if possible. Even if I downloaded Adobe DNG I am not hable to find camera list to obtain camera profile. I own a Fujifilm X-H1 an a X-T1.
I don't have the option to open with Luminar Neo or AI when I right click and choose open with. Any Idea what's wrong? Love the search feature but would love for it to work like yours in the video.
This was on the forum but didn't work for me. "Then please try the following: Right-click on the image on "View in file browser" and then open the image from Windows Explorer with right-click -> "Open with" in the desired application. After that, it should also work from Excire Foto."
@@andrewdempsey5312 are you trying it only on Excire Foto? They told me the other day it was still active... ? I'll follow up again and find out why it's not working. I imagine if its the Luminar + Excire combo then yeah that ship has sailed ⛵️
Face recognition scary. Can you create thumbnails/postcards with neo offline? Cause when I travel I won't have any Internet. 99% of all the software requires Internet on my ipad. I have a mac now (pc are easier lol)
I had a few requests but these videos take so much time that unless I get a large response or a request from a channel supporter (I always prioritise the requests from my members and supporters) I make what's floatin' my boat at that time.
The problem for me is I already own both programs (not the problem) but I stopped using Excire (as a Lightroom plugin) long ago. It makes so many errors, it takes longer to clean up it's wrongs than it does to just add the correct keyworks yourself. Also it adds its name to each keyword because the keywords are all in the Excire folder so that is at the beginning of each thing it identifies. It adds a lot of things I don't want added like unsaturated or colors which even after turning off, it still adds them and almost never gets any animal or bird correct so now I look up Owl and I get a lot of photos with no owl because Excire added it thinking another bird may have been an owl. It may be better for landscapes but IMO lousy for Wildlife.
Most of the AI keywords are rubbish. I am not interested in descriptions like "Nature, Outdoors, Nature" etc. I like meaningful keywords like location info, name of events and the like. Too gimmicky. And once the image is exported from Neo the edits are baked to a jpeg or tiff? So it is not a workflow that preserves the edits I imagine. This is a non event.
Great Video... well explained. Is It possible to have a folder that is called "Edits" within Excire Foto 2024 and also pickup within Luminar Neo. After Editing you could Save it Back to a Folder called "Processed" which is also Manged within Excire Foto 2024 as a workflow?
Hello, thank you for all the great videos you provide- Of the videos I have seen it is clear you put a lot of work into them and they are very well thought out and clear. However, I recently I followed yours and Jim Nixc’s advice and bought Excire 11 days ago and I have regrettably found that it does not recognise my Luminar Neo program (which is the most recent version with AI packahes). I contacted Excire and asked for help, but all they suggested was that I use their ‘open with ‘button and then said that would let them program recognise Luminar Neo- I tried it and that did not work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Excire and that did not work either. I contacted Skylum but they informed me that, “…the integration of these two applications is not officially supported.” But tried to help me by sending links to yours and Jim Nix’s UA-cam clips. I foolishly bought the program without trying it because Skylum had teamed up with Excire and both you and Jim Nix had given it glowing reviews. Sadly, buying Excire Foto for me has so far proved to have been a waste of money. FYI I have found it will work on my PC with ON1 Raw 2022 and DXO 5 I already have Photo Mechanic Plus and also ON1 2023 will be bringing out a new improved data search next month so Excire is not much good to me for any f the programs I do already have. Anyway, perhaps you might let others know before buying to make sure it works with their computer systems. Again, thank you for all you very informative videos. I well send a copy of this to Jim Nix as well.
Hi Aubrey. Ah no! Sorry to hear it's not working for you. I'm not sure why that would be. It's getting late here in NZ but I'm going to ponder it overnight. Maybe something will come to me... I would have thought Neo would be there as an option to "open with" as it is on my system. I'll think on it and if anything comes to mind I'll write again.

Can you copy the keywords or export/import them to or from a comma delineated text file?
Looks great. Full demo would be helpful.
I just noticed you can send images to ACDSee as well. Does EXCIRE also import star ratings and colour ratings from ACDSee? Maybe even existing keywords? I imagine at least star ratings should work for files, where the rating is baked into the image (not possible in RAW).
Anthony, when i use Excire and i use "open with" on a photo, neo does not come up as option. i click "choose application" and navigate to neo, it says "unable to open file" error. any ideas on this? thanks
G'day Anthony
This is a massive time saver.
Will there be a 'extension price' as a way of saying it, for people whose has Neo already?
Havagooday mate
Greg
Hi Greg, I've just heard you can use the discount code LUMINAR25 at this link bit.ly/Excire if you already have NEO. 😀
can I set up an IPTC profile in Excire, to copy my business data into every new imported foto?
Hey Anthony, I purchased Excire last week. Pretty nice program. I image there's some bugs (or desirables) I hope they're working on resolving as well. My question to you, when I right click on an image to 'open with', the only Luminar program listed (and I have all), is Luminar AI. Neo doesn't show up nor does the Icon when I browse my desktop. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Matt
Yes that works too. Good tip.
Did you mean to reply to someone else? I don't have a tip! lol@@AnthonyTurnham
Why is Skylum selling a new 2024 product but sent me to a 2023 preview???
My Luminar NEO is not an EXCIRE "open with " option. I have Photoshop, etc available but not NEO.
Good question. I'm away from the computer for a while though so currently can't check sorry.
Sir, I already have Luminar Neo, if I buy Excire will it come at a rebate and will it find my Mac Photo library automatically?
Hi Peter. Yes, absolutely to the discount! You can go here bit.ly/Excire and use the discount code LUMINAR25. As for automatically finding your Photo Library I'm not 100% sure as I'm not a Mac user. I would think though that you just need to point Excire to the top folder and select "import sub-folders" and that should do the trick!
full tutorial would be good.
This is a very good exposition. Is there a way to identify faces and name them?
I'll have to check out a few more details with the software. I'm still new to it myself. I'll post an update how to video in due course...
I know I am not in proper video but I have to ask you to help me if possible. Even if I downloaded Adobe DNG I am not hable to find camera list to obtain camera profile. I own a Fujifilm X-H1 an a X-T1.
Text search is full of mistakes (german). Does the search works better in english maybe?
Great software, but I have allready Luminar Neo and I have all my pictures in Lightroom.
Got it working, now i'm a happy camper :)
how about ... ACDSee for organization?
Ah, good old ACDSee. I used that for years before Lightroom came out. Yes, good idea 💡 I'll see if I can put a comparison video together.
I have Luminar Neo already so I wouldn't want a bundle would be interested if it was sold separately
I've just heard you can use the discount code LUMINAR25 at this link bit.ly/Excire if you already have NEO! 😀👍 Please let me know if the code works!
Wow! Sold me!
Do you have a new discount code for Excire? The Luminar25 has expired. Thanks
Hi Len! Funny you mention that. The Excire guys reached out yesterday. TURNHAM will give you 15% off Excire Foto!
@@AnthonyTurnham That code has expired too!
@@andrewdempsey5312 are you trying it only on Excire Foto? They told me the other day it was still active... ? I'll follow up again and find out why it's not working. I imagine if its the Luminar + Excire combo then yeah that ship has sailed ⛵️
Tried Neo not for me. Lightroom with Nik Collection suits me better.
Fair enough. I still love LR and often use Nik in my workflow too. 😀
This looks like I can finally move away from Adobe. I only use LR for the organisation of my photos. For editing I have totally moved to Neo
In that case, yes, it certainly looks like this would be ideal for you!
Face recognition scary. Can you create thumbnails/postcards with neo offline? Cause when I travel I won't have any Internet. 99% of all the software requires Internet on my ipad. I have a mac now (pc are easier lol)
Still waiting for that full tutorial
I had a few requests but these videos take so much time that unless I get a large response or a request from a channel supporter (I always prioritise the requests from my members and supporters) I make what's floatin' my boat at that time.
I need this but I already own Neo so.......
I've just heard you can use the discount code LUMINAR25 at this link bit.ly/Excire if you already have NEO. 😀 Let me know if the code works!
Hello Michael, We improved our product over the years, and you might update your license to the newest version and give it another try and thought.
Get to the point very long winded
