संक्षेप। आईआईटी रुड़की संस्थान की शुरुआत में सिविल इंजिनियरिंग से हुई थी। और गंगा canal (1843-1854) को बनाने के लिए यह सिविल इंजीनियरिंग की ट्रेनिंग दी जाती थी। रुड़की का प्रसिद्ध सोलानी aquaduct (जलसेतु) थोमस कॉलेज ऑफ सिविल इंजीनियरिंग (आईआईटी रुड़की)की ही देन है गंगा canal के इंजीनियर प्रोबे कोटली के सम्मान में संस्थान में एक छात्रा वास का नाम कोटली भवन है ।
