    Another method : Cut the shape by drawing a line with pen tool or pencil tool. Select the line and go to Layer menu and choose Expand Stroke. Select the shape and the line and divide. No need to close the shapes. You can delete the lines/strokes. Thanks.

    Very well explained, thanks. People often complain about affinity products lacking certain adobe tools. Seems a bit unfair given respective costs and time in existence of products. Showing how to do equivalent things in affinity could be effective for you given your ability to explain things.

      Thank you for the great comment. I completely agree with you in regards to people complaining about missing tools in Affinity when compared to Adobe. I still occasionally use adobe products, but honestly prefer affinity products. Sometimes you do need to find workarounds for certain techniques, but given the price difference between affinity and Adobe is something I can live with. Affinity are getting better in every new update and are currently adobes biggest competition.

    Hi, it's just an idea, but could you not draw a straight line and place it across another shape that you want to cut out (the line would act as a blade); then, using the boolean functions, click on DIVIDE?

      @MJWMediaStudios  3 роки тому +5

      Hi, yes you can also do it that way. The only problem with that method is that once you cut out the shape using a line and boolean options, you won't be able to peice it back together as it won't align correctly. The boolean devide option will use the thickness / stroke weight of the line in order to do the cut. So if you was to cut a heart with that method, then try and put it back together, you'll end up with a line down the middle where it was originally cut and it won't align correctly. This isn't important if you don't intend to join them back together, but is really important if you wanted to animate them where the shape pulls apart or joins back together. It's a little hard to explain in writing, but if you have a little play around with that method, you will see what I mean 🙂 But you're completey right, and you can do it that way also. Thank you for your comment 🙂

    Essential! I like to say, "if you don't know how to cut, dice 'n slice, you don't know how to cook" Please let me know how to avoid a centre line between shapes when joining 2 cut shapes / reduce redundant nodes collecting on top of each other. Some of my joined shapes have a seam or space that can't be tolerated when for example creating a head shape for character design. Thanks MJW.

      To eliminate the seam / space you'll need to combine the shapes together using the geometry tools (ADD BUTTON - TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE) instead of combining nodes. Simply select all the shapes you wish to combine to a single shape, and hit the ADD BUTTON. You can select any node that has become redundant and just delete it. I hope this helps with your problem.

    People are going to whine no matter what. First, they'll lambast adobe because of their subscription model and then they'll do the same with 'affinity is missing this and that.' I'm not going back to adobe, it's Affinity for me now.

    Why is my eraser tool an × shape instead of an ○ shape?

    • @MJWMediaStudios
      @MJWMediaStudios  3 роки тому +1

      Hi. I think you just need to increase your brush size on your eraser. Hope this helps 🙂

      Affinity designer V2 has a new knife tool now that makes this process so much easier. You can simply slice through any shape with no extra steps needed.

    There is no shape blending in Affinity. There is no envelpe tool in Affinity. There is no extrusion tool in Affinity. Affinity has a long way to go.
