Its like the Dreadnoughts series with nice historical pictures, but I don`t care so much for these "get in the mood" intros even if they are well written. Therefore I would very much like a chapter to jump straight to the gameplay. I am looking forward to see many more episodes of this interesting game!
While I do like the intros, I couldn't help but get really distracted by the use of AI-generated images in this one. They were cleaned up reasonably well (good hands), but are full of major inaccuracies nearly everywhere you look. There's no shortage of actual, excellent photos from the war that are in the public domain even if you're trying to focus on a specific time. The images used were also all supposed to be British, which is odd because you're doing a playthrough as the Germans.
@@OdinsVikingr Yes, unfortunately, the later the series goes on the more the numbers start to drift due to restarts and re-recordings making it a problematic endeavor.
hey stealth, love this game and the video. Two gameplay tips that i learned the hard way playing the Beta: just always artying the MG nests until they die and only then attacking is not sustainable in the long run. you need to supress them with arty (as well as any accompanying infantry of course) and then push them with your own infantry, thats the only way to quickly make serious gains. the second tip is that the first thing you need to do when you secure a position is send a shitton of reinforcments immidiatly. you just left the sections who took the point do defend it, what you need to do is fill those trenches with fresh squads so you can survive the almost inevitable counterattack (which is very realistic)
A Stealth intro is dramatic and sets the mood. The intros evoke emotions and create an atmosphere applicable for the content. From dramatic parades and cheers of celebration down to the sourness of trench warfare leaving a bitter taste. Truly masterful.
To be clear on the stars - a hollow star is one that's been lost, and, crucially, the only way to knock off a star is to capture all the points *and* the command trench. I was making this mistake in the beta where I could get the command trench and a 'great victory' but it didn't hollow out a star. It can get fairly tricky with the time limit and how much stuff you need to throw at points to get them - the AI's method isn't necessarily the worst if you use the suppression from light and heavy arty to get your troops in - the timing is the hardest part to avoid FF/
Really like the new intro, its a nice little view into the men having to fight this war. Really helps put into perspective what those casualty numbers at the end of a battle really mean, that they're not just soldiers or equipment but men, men that won't be coming home
A couple of suggestions I would make is to one always have at least one machine gun covering each trench line as well as artillery. Two would be that you don’t need to destroy machine gun positions rather suppressing them is much quicker and more efficient as they will not be able to engage your infantry. Finally I would suggest waiting at the start and just grinding down the enemy before engaging in any offensive actions as well as not being too cautious as you could have probably taken the command point during this battle if you focused on attacking it. Other than that I really enjoy your content and I look forward to seeing more of it.
From my experience in the demo, I’d recommend a lot more artillery, prob 6+ pieces, mostly heavy artillery. Machine guns are nice on the defense, but they’re mostly there to soak up enemy artillery, infantry is what does the real damage. In that, I’d recommend having your elite troops on defense rather than conscripts. For defense, focus on having overlapping fields of fire in depth (meaning have trenches right behind one another). Also, minimize communication trenches- they’re a double edge sword. Comm trenches allow you to move up in cover, but if the enemy takes the first trench, they can move immune of your gunfire. Next, please, please don’t allow yourself to be tunnel visioned. You got really preoccupied with holding one point, that you lost the opportunity to win the whole battle. The game is quite janky sometimes with the ui, so you must be extremely careful about where you tell your guys to go in the trench. You must tell them to advance from one trench section to another (or small enough distances that they don’t go out of the trench). Also make sure your guys get into a trench asap, it’s really easy to misclick and have them stand on top of a trench, but not in it. On offense, melee is king, so get as many guys into their trenches as possible and just smoke them out, while staying in their trenches as much as absolutely possible to maneuver.
In the last episode, Stealth learns not to put the recon balloon out in front. This episode Stealth learns that more artillery is definitely needed. What will Stealth learn in the next episode? Stay tuned! :D I'm sure France will buckle quickly once you sharpen your tactics, considering the K/D R so far. Casualties Allied: 15,414 German: 9,339
I have, thanks. Like I said in half a dozen comments before: I recorded episode 1 and 2 together. The comments saying "troops are cheaper when pre-deployed" came after episode 1. I can't retroactively apply that to an episode I've already recorded...
Don't forget, having 4-5 batteries of arty is always helpful, you are learning the way of the shovel, once you get more supplies you can start making continuous, multi layer trenches
Love the intro! Reinforcement during battle requires double supplies. Wouldn't it be more efficient to deploy all 30 units at the start? Would also recommend more artillery
The worst thing in ww1 was that soliders couldnt say bad things about the conditions in the war in the letters so that people didnt knew what hapened in the war
You could have back capped their HQ so easily, just needed to get your troops in their trench network and maneuvered them though the trenches to take out the MG Nest, and you ALMOST killed their Artillery battery too. That would have been a MAJOR BLOW! Still, you took ground with significantly less casualties then they did.
When attacked in the trench if you just transfer another division to occupy the assaulted trench that will be generally more effective than directly attacking on the contested trench's enemy division :) great video my guy as usual :)🎉
i dont know if you noticed but its cheaper to deply units in the pre plan phase, i know you didnt like the fact they have to be in the trenches but it looks like deploying them in the HQ area and then moving them up for more space would be cheaper, maybe even deplying them in the free spots you have not used for the basic units would be benifical since you still want to call them in, but its cheaper in the pre-plan phase and supply efficent rather than calling them in in the tactical phase. and the new intro is great! really like it.
Love the intro love the dedication and HARD work you put in editing and everything else for these videos, I wasn’t expecting to like this series no offense but now I’m waiting impatiently for the next episode
In the 2 months you have had command of german forces you have lost 9341 troops and have inflicted 15414 allied losses. Wonder if the French are going to be able to cope with the losses or if they have a Lot of reserves in the back lines to replace the destroyed company's.
Use barbed-wire entanglements to funnel infantry into your MGs. A communication trench is for infantry to move up under cover to forward positions and for messengers to carry reports back and forth as field telephones were unreliable and radios were relatively rare in the field at the time (and delicate). No MG for X?
Watching the end of the battle, a proper bite and hold approach would have probably been ideal - call for a ceasefire after you'd bled the French white in the east, and you'd taken Point B. That way you could bring up your artillery, build new trench lines to connect B to Y and finish the line across the south. And in doing so bring up a few additional batteries to X so you can pound A before closing the noose on the command trench up at C.
i think you can throw more men in in battles and build like a main force of 10 guys or so and who just always attack with arty fire support. once your in your in. But just an idea.
love the intros you do they're always fun. For attacking mg nests and trenches though I thought you were able to attack while they are suppressed by artillery and thus can't shoot back, the idea being you hit the trenchs/mg's with artillery as your troops move in.
Curious as to why you didn’t push into the command area when you first came into it to see only the machine guns defending. Can you not send multiple companies from different angles to get at least one past the gun’s field of fire?
The sense I'm getting from watching this is that you just have to use really large concentrations of men in order to comfortably rush a point and then hold it. Also, I feel like linking your trenches up is a bad idea, because once the enemy takes one they can take the entire line. Instead, try building them in isolated 'islands', with several layers of defence in depth so that if the front lines get overrun, they can't push furthur without incurring massive losses.
_really large concentrations of men_ Yeah, that works *really well.* And for the extra fun, shell the whole area into a sea or craters with a 7 day non-stop artillery fire to destroy trenches and wires, and add in poison gas. Oh, and add in a few (19) mines under enemy key positions with only a few tens of ammonal per target. And then you launch a _really large concentrations of men_ into the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Which, as we all know, was a total success ... if you are going for maximum casualties.
Probably already figured this out seeing you are 11 eps in at time of this comment. MG's cannot shoot troops in the trenches, so if you can get into the trench and maneuver behind the MG your units can grenade them from the trenches. Much more efficient than Arty
This is actually a nice game! I saw it on Steam or G2a, but the screens of the strategic map did not appeal to me. There's a tactical layer though! Nice! BTW - if a trench is facing in one direction will the defenders shoot only in this direction or will they also defend against enemy coming from the rear (even if with reduced damage/defense)?
Infantry can throw grenades at enemy MGs within trenches. You kinda wasted supply on bombing MGs that are so far back when you could have a group of infantry moving within the trenches
I know that ww1 has a lot of involvement from arty. There is a difference between the concept of the actual war and the game concept. Arty salvos are expensive in this game. Arty itself is very expensive. That's why I didn't place too much of it down.
