What is wrong with Alexander? "Failure to protect" is beyond ridiculous when the vehicles were INTENTIONALLY targeted by THREE, read that 3, high precision missiles on clearly marked humanitarian aid vehicles ON THE ROOF and the convoy had given their travel information previously to the IDF. They were traveling in a non-combat zone.
They were intentionally targeted because a gunman was firing from the roof of one of the vehicles. Small detail you left out.

I don't understand this language "Israel's failure to protect aid workers." To me it sounds a bit like "Hamas's failure to protect concert goers." Murder is murder, and innocent people were clearly targeted, so stop sugarcoating it.

The vehicles were clearly marked, but it was 11pm. Not sure that the Israeli drone cameras could “see” the markings which raises the question, “Who did they think were in the vehicles and why did they fire on them if they didn’t know whether or not they were Hamas? Makes one wonder how many others have been killed without knowing whether or not they were indeed Hamas.
The AID workers had given their travel information route to the IDF. The strikes were precision and the drones can see.
It is a relevant question and one of the reasons you have terror against Israel.
The aid workers were not only in contact with the IDF but the IDF also admitted they thought they saw an armed man when the aid cars arrived at the food depot, they did not see the armed man leave with the convoy but it shows further evidence of Isreal policy to strike regardless of who else gets killed, which is now in another story from IDF called lavender which is using AI to track suspects and then purposely killing them when they get home with their families (where’s daddy). Part of why there is such mass civilian casualties, Just more war crimes defended by Genocide Joe administration. At the same time Isreal does a precision strike on Iran general in a diplomatic building surrounded by other diplomatic buildings and were expected to believe they’re just incompetent and didn’t purposely hit these vehicles (or other civilian hospitals etc…).
The route, the timing and the coordinates were provided by the IDF to this convoy. Did you see the footage of the drone attack by the IDF on four Palestinian boys who were walking unarmed, it’s in Al Jazeera and four boys were killed in 3 separate drone strikes, hunted as they tried to run. 15,000 children don’t end up being dead in 6 months unless the IDF doesn’t care for Palestinian lives at all. By the way this makes it 196 aid workers who have been killed so far

So it actually turn out that a gunman is on video firing from the roof of one of the vehicles in the aid convoy. The aid convoy was operating at night, when it's marking could not be seen. The IDF also tried to call the aid convoy who didn't respond.
In Hollywood-films the one(s) in charge would at this point have found their heart, do the nescessary phone-calls, stopped all arms, all actions on the ground, opened the gates, send in aid via land, sea and air, ...
But in reality, the war-machine is only a little bit "re-arranged", adapted, so it can stomp on, looking a bit "nicer" ... :(

They knew the risks
Not really three independent strikes on a convoy that had clearance from the IDF for transit... There is more going on here.
The risks were supposed to be mitigated. World Central Kitchen claims that they previously coordinated with the Israeli military to ensure that they would not be targeted. Their vehicles also had plainly visible logos as an aid organization. The initial signs point to gross negligence by the IDF for misidentifying their convoy.
