@@Anonymous-yp7cz It is not the same. I don't want to relativate the violent actions of the IDF, nor those of the Hamas terrorists, but this situation is very different to that of 1933-1945. Suggesting that there are parallels, for example in the displacement, is not wrong, but setting them on one level shows a lack of nuance and historic knowledge.

    • @steffahn
      @steffahn 3 місяці тому +23

@@Anonymous-yp7cz It’s a compound of only two words (nouns), "Vergangenheit" meaning "the past" and "Bewältigung" meaning "dealing with" or "coping", (connected with a "s" that's common for compounds).
However, each of those consists of a shorter stem with a few prefixes and suffixes. If you want to break down all components, it could be split up to something like "Ver-gang-en-heit" and "Be-wältig-ung", where "gang" and "wältig" would be the respective stem.
For "Vergangenheit", we start with the irregular verb "geh(-en)" (= "to go"), "ging" (= "went), "(ge-)gang(-en)" (= "gone"), so "gang" is the perfect stem.
With the prefix "ver-", you get the word "ver-geh(-en)", meaning to "to pass" or "to elapse" or "to go by" (in a time sense), "ver-ging" (= "went by"), "ver-gang(-en)" (= "gone by", "bygone", "elapsed", "passed"). The "-en" is part of forming the past participle here… so "vergangen" is only missing the "-heit".
"-heit" is a common nominalizer of adjectives (participles are adjectives) similar to "-ness" in English, so it makes "vergangen" into "Vergangenheit" = "the past" (so maybe translated extremely literally, you could understand the word as "bygoneness"?)
For "Bewältigung", that's from the verb "bewältigen", which includes a prefix "be-" but a version of "be-wältig-en" without the "be-" no longer exists in German. The "wält" in the middle there is however also appearing in other words like "überwältigen" (= "overwhelm") and it's related to (or maybe the same as) "walt" in other words like "Gewalt" (= "force"/"violence") or "ver-walten" (= "to manage"), and should be cognate with English "wield". "bewältigen" is a verb meaning "to deal with" or "to cope" and "-ung" is a common nominalizer for verbs, so "Bewältigung" is "dealing with" or "coping".

Germany and Namibia...One country was particularly vocal in expressing its frustration with and disappointment in Germany’s intervention: Namibia.
On January 13, Namibia’s presidency condemned Germany’s “shocking decision” to support Israel at the ICJ.
In a statement published on X, it reminded the world that Germany committed the first genocide of the 20th century in Namibia in 1904-1908, in which “tens of thousands of innocent Namibians died in the most inhumane and brutal conditions”, and never fully atoned for this horrific crime.
In light of its apparent inability to draw lessons from its horrific history, the presidency said, Germany should “reconsider its untimely decision to intervene as a third-party in defence and support of the genocidal acts of Israel” before the ICJ.
“Germany cannot morally express commitment to the United Nations Convention against genocide”, or truly atone for the genocide it committed on Namibian soil, it concluded, while “supporting the equivalent of a holocaust and genocide in Gaza”.
In this short statement, the tiny Southern African nation of 2.7 million, which was a German colony between 1884-1919, exposed Germany’s comprehensive failure to deal with its atrocious colonial past, and blatant double standards about genocide, in one breath.
Between 1904 and 1908, German settlers systematically killed up to 100,000 Herero and Nama people following a popular uprising over unlawful land seizures and forced labour in what was then known as German South West Africa.
On October 2, 1904, Lieutenant General Lothar von Trotha, the supreme commander of German South West Africa, issued an extermination notice ordering German soldiers to kill “every male [Herero], armed or unarmed” and displace (or shoot) the Herero women and children.
Although Germany rescinded the order on December 8, 1904, the settlers had already displaced and killed thousands of Herero people.

There are downsides as we leave out the prepositions between the nouns that are being combined (such as "for", "of" or "with"). In the same restaurant you may be able to order "Schweineschnitzel" (pork cutlet) and "Kinderschnitzel" (literally "children cutlet") - It might be useful to say that the second is "for children" but this is not possible to include. It remains ambiguous and does not rule out cannibalism.

The real question is what a pro-palestine and a pro-israel stance even pertains. And the easiest answer to that and the one that makes most sense politically is that it is support of the governments that rule those places. So, would you rather support the clearly antisemitic terrorist organisation Hamaz or the far-right Israeli government replacing palestinians in the west bank. In this war those are the only options you have unless you want to send troops in there yourself.

    • @SLDimarco
      @SLDimarco 3 місяці тому +35

@MrTomhawk this ignores the West Bank altogether.
Also from the Times of Israeli:
"For years, the various governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu took an approach that divided power between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank - bringing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to his knees while making moves that propped up the Hamas terror group.
The idea was to prevent Abbas - or anyone else in the Palestinian Authority’s West Bank government - from advancing toward the establishment of a Palestinian state"
The problem is Israeli's right wing government, they have made their own bed here.

Well the issue is that these two are mutually exclusive as of now. Peace negotiations are impossible with a terrorist government and a populous that is overly enthusiastic at the prospect of complete Israeli eradication. And whilst I agree that most pro-Palestine people are not anti-semetic, the reason why that is is because they are delusional. If they actually knew the situation and still supported Palestine amongst all this, it would certainly signify anti-semitism.

Most civilians in every country are politically indifferent and have done nothing wrong. I don't understand why sympathising with them for losing loved ones is frowned upon. Please note the 1948 is not called the palestine war. It's usually named as the first Arab-Israeli war or the 1948 war. Israelis call it the war of independence. Palestinians and other groups call it the 1948 nakba. For neutrality, maybe call it the 1948, or use the names both sides use.
Also, the map used is a misleading narrative map. Either use the pre-1967 and post-1967 map or do a whole series about the issues of the false pre-1948 map. It shows the boundaries of the british mandate. It doesn't reflect any real borders of a palestinian entity or its shrinking. You can however consider doing a video about it, or refer people to realifelore or warographics channels videos about the subject. You're usually better at getting your facts right.
Bernie Sanders is very critical of Israel, but he wouldnt consider hamas actions as justified. Jeremy Corbyn describes hamas and hezbollah as his friends. I don't know about you, but if your friends are willing to kill women, children and elderly in the name of "freedom fighting" it's disgusting and i would have blocked him from visiting too.

@spicyf the mess takes perpetrators, bosses and genocidal neighbors. Great Britian had no Palestinians there with Mr Balfour.
And that is criminal. Giving a land to others takes British Gall. I call it obnoxious bs. Like French and USA play with Vietnam. Sad. Then add the Israeli lack of respect for Palestine. Disdain? Now dehumanization to aparthied, genocide. Walls. Sad no 2 state SO no peace now. And Hamas needs no friends like Corbyn. GB AND GERMANY and USA already fall for the victim situation for JEWS.
      JEWS get all our sympathy.
So Palestine gets nothing. I think Palestine deserves what was promised way back then. Get that on. Human rights not genocide, food. second class aparthied. Intimidation.
Sad Isreal so strong it must stop killing civilians by starvation, no?

It means they don't vote in elections even though many of them are German citizens, and if they do vote they mostly vote for left parties ...etc. The Problem is that many parties in Germany RIGHT AND LEFT ,have backed Israel's action unconditionally even though UN describes them as war crimes. This position drives the Muslim minority population to boycott the elections totally . The result would be that the left and social democratic parties and also the more center parties would loose a lot of votes from the Muslim minorities . The result would be that far right rhetoric's and parties in Germany would become even stronger in the coming election . And Germany is back to the same old fascist history again . The modern 20th century weapon of neo-imperialism is "dollarism." The Zionists have mastered the science of dollarism: the ability to come posing as a friend and benefactor, bearing gifts and all other forms of economic aid and offers of technical assistance. Thus, the power and influence of Zionist Israel in many of the newly "independent" African nations has fast-become even more unshakeable than that of the 18th century European colonialists...and this new kind of Zionist colonialism differs only in form and method, but never in motive or objective.

This map is obviosly idiotic whichever way you slice it, and has been debunked a whole load of times.
If u say it is representing land ownership,(Jews V.S Arabs) then why does it not really account for Israeli Arabs? Shockingly dont actually all live in the north of Israel, also why is the first map only green and black? During the Ottoman peorid, a large portion of the land was owned by turkish (and even some greek) landowners?
If it is refering to which state controlls the land, then that obviosly does not make any sense, as (for an example, the Ottoman empire controlled the Holy land (nice neutral term that :) up untill 1917, and the UK up untill 1948.
If the map is refering to habitation, then that clearly dosnt make any sense, as the Negev (for an example) is quite sparsely populated even today, and in the early 20 century, the whole reigon had a much smaller pop than now, with much of the land (especielly in the negev desert) being very virtually empty.
Thats not to say this was "a land without a people" etc. That is wrong, and i'm trying to be objective.
Overall, I am quite dissapointed with TLDR's coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, as your vedeos often fall prey to long held politically motivated untruths (like this, which are often spouted, but not entirely true and are pushed by one side or the other to furthur their narrative). Also your vedeos on this subject are ogten quite surface level, when really they should be a bit more in depth, (or at least it would be nnice to see some more in depth vedeos from TLDR)

I suggest you open your history books again or if you have the stomach watch the documentaries on the Rwandan genocide to see what a real genocide looks like. @@jamese5936 I am familiar with the case of Rwanda. For the question what is or isn't a genocide, one approch would be to take a look at the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide. I don't want to quote it here in full, the text is publically available.
The intent, usually the hard part, is clear in this case through statements of those perpetrating it. Palestinians form a national group. A. II (a) is the case, so is (b), so is (c) by by destruction of infrastructure and hunger as weapon, (d) might be true through the distruction of medical infrastructure but is arguable (although clearly a goal if you listen to the far-right in parliament), (e) is not true to my knowledge. Only one of (a) to (e) must be true for it to be genocide. A. III (e) then is relevant for our government.
I find it problematic to look at some metric of deaths or deaths per time to ask if a genocide is bad enough for us to do something about it. That approch delays a reaction and sabotages prevention to a point after which it is too late.

The map shown at 3:08 is very misleading. (from left to right) The first 2 maps depicting the land are from the British mandate showing in black the land privately owned by Jewish people and where most of the Jewish population was settled (the local arab population has sold it to the Jews). Still, the total land is not an independent "Palestine" but population centers under the British mandate. The 3rd map has 2 problems, 1st The land in the north marked in blue was under Israeli control after the local arab population (back then they hadn't identified as Palestinians, that only came up later in the 1950s when the "Palestinian national identity" was born) and the surrounding arab nations declared war on the newly independent Israel in 1947/48, 2nd The West Bank and the Gaza Strip were under Jordanian and Egyptian control respectively, not Palestinian like the map suggests. the 4th map is after the Oslo Accords of the '90s, still showing Palestinian control in the north (which is false, it has been a part of Israel since 1948) and the black land mass in the West Bank is the agreed Israeli control areas in the Oslo Accords. The map is trying to show the concentration of Jewish and nonJewish (not necessarily Palestinians) populations in the land but it is doing it in a very misleading way.
This kind of misinformation can be very harmful to many people and encourages antisemitism propaganda, especially when you present it like that out of context.
