Hi, Badam. I have just stumbled across your channel and would
like to say Kudos, to you, for reaching out to your viewers, to give them
help and advise, on a two year old video. That's great. 👍👍👍 😁✌🖖

    Hi Adam,
This series is very interesting, not sure I will ever put it to practical use it but nevertheless interesting...
    Cheers

I have a question about one of these I’m trying to get going, I’m not sure where to ask, but if I may here: I have a 1hp single phase helper motor turning a 5hp Baldor idler motor. The objective is to create 240v three phase, so I can test if a lathe I have actually works. IF it does work, then I’ll do 240 single phase into the 5hp motor and invest in capacitors and all that to make a proper converter without a helper motor. Justification for pushing a 5hp with a 1hp aside; I’m only getting 4.2 volts when wired for low voltage, and 8.4 volts when wired for high voltage. It’s exactly double. The 1hp and 5hp rpm’s are the same, and I’m using a 1:1 pulley. Triple checked the wiring each time. What am I doing wrong?
Also it has two brown wires for a heat sensor or something. The voltage is exactly the same whether or not these wires are open/closed.
Any help, or pointers in the direction of help, is much appreciated

The amps will be off from nameplate due to the fact it’s missing a leg, e-mail me at Badam485@yahoo.com some pics of your setup and I’ll see what I can do for you

only thing I am not clear on is how to hook up the three phase motor you want to run. Is it just pigtailed into the 3 phase generator motor? so you would have 220, the generator motor and the motor you want to run all hooked together??

I was just thinking today about how I would do it before seeing your video and my idea is to use the starter motor of a vice system where you can move it into the three phase motor each motor having a load wheel attached to the shafts, so you would start the starting motor and adjust it into the three phase motor or have the load wheels already touching then start the starter motor and adjust the tension between the two load wheels to bring up the three phase motor to speed? not sure if it would work just thought of it this morning.
Question how do we determine how Big of a three phase motor we would need to provide enough power for a three phase welder? I have a tig welder that requires 115 amps single phase or it can run on three phase lower amperage, problem is I am limited to max 75 amps single phase in the garage

Unfortunately it cannot be done. You cannot create more energy then what you have coming in. If you did a rotary phase converter you would need double the power of the 3 phase. So 150a single phase. Plus the inefficiencies of the conversions.

Excellent work. I will be grateful if you will send me the name plate of both idler motor and the pony motor

Cooul you please tell , what is the use of pony motor ?

It is replacing a bunch of, expensive, capacitors and relays, which
would be used to get the 3 phase idler motor to run.
