Rock 'n' Roll at it's finest. The guitar break is insane.Memories of walking around with a tiny transistor radio to my ear.Makes me happy I grew up in these times.
When I was young in the mid 1980s I spent all my spare time scouring used record stores. I saw this album cover in a place in Cambridge, MA but knew nothing about the band - I doubt had even heard of them. I ended up buying something else and took the bus back home to Boston, but on the way, for some reason could not get this incredible cover out of my mind. I literally ended up taking the bus back and buying it that same day. Imagine how blown my mind was when I played the album. I nailed the cover to my wall so I could see it all the time. I still have it and still treasure it.
Such great memories. Remember going to the Village in downtown Detroit in the early 60's. Mitch was Billy Lee then, singing soul and R&B. He later formed Billy Lee & the Rivieras, which became Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
One of the BEST rock n' roll cuts of all time ! I took this cut to Scotland when I was in the subs and played it at the dancehalls over there. Those kids went CRAZY over this beat !
It's great! I lived just across the Detroit river in Windsor, Ontario Canada in the mid-60's - early 70's. We worshiped Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels!!
Thanks for posting. Yeah, that is how I remember the recording. I got to see him in concert in the mid 1960's when he had the horn section with him. Whoa...that was a great show!
My family and my Aunt Rose went down to Virginia to hang out with my Aunt Peggy and Uncle Nelson and my cousins Bruce & Sandy. During the weekend of our stay, It was in the summer and it was hot. We all went to the skating rink that my Uncles family liked to skate at!!!! We all hung out together and had a great time. We watched my uncle's family skate together. Then my mother took my sisters Nancy, Caroline, my aunt Peggy, my cousin Bruce, and my uncle Nelson and they got into the groove of a HOT song and tore up the skate floor!!!! This song started and my aunt Rose looked at me and I looked like I grabbed a LIVE POWER LINE!!!! My mother SCREAMED, " Allie LOAD THE ARSENAL"!!! My mother sent my sister Eva, my aunt Rose, my girlfriend Debbie, Me, and my cousin Sandy on the skate floor. I SCREAMED, "DON'T DENY THE GROOVE"!!! My mother SCREAMED, " LET IT ALL HANG OUT"!!!! We all got in a GROOVE and I SCREAMED, "DETONATE"!!! Then all HELL broke Loose!!! I skated up to my cousin Sandy and SCREAMED "CANNON"!!! then fired her high in the AIR!!!!! I scared the "SHIT" out of her then just threw everyone else around like stuffed toys!!! We got done and people were SCREAMING and FREAKING OUT!!!! My Cousin Sandy told my Uncle Daddy Allie is MAD DOG INSANE"!!! I apologized to my cousin for scaring her!! Everyone there cheered us on and APPLAUDED!!! The Owner told my uncle, I love when you bring your sister's family to my rink!!! They just ELECTRIFY the place!!! My uncle told the owner my nieces and nephew are Pro-Roller Skaters!!! They are the New England Skating Champions!!! All the moves they use they developed and perfected themselves!!!!
I was working at WMEX in Boston when this came out and I remember when the record company rushed us an acetate of the re-mix of the original pressing (which they wanted us to stop playing).
Played by the Mighty Rock Radio XERB out of Tijhuana Mexico, on the Wolfman Jack Show, nightly R&R that was listened to by a lot of teens throughout the country, and one of the best groups to play R&R !

And of course we all know why it is such a rare version. When you know what to listen for, its apparent why it was re-cut. Two of the most blatant profanities of the 1960's. I didn't realize it until the 80's when I began collecting oldies at Itunes.
