- Strangely absent from the millions of songs posted, so here is the rare first pressing 45, which definitely differs from later singles and all LPs.
Mitch is so fucking underrated, it’s ridiculous. If he’s not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, then there shouldn’t be one.....

When I was young in the mid 1980s I spent all my spare time scouring used record stores. I saw this album cover in a place in Cambridge, MA but knew nothing about the band - I doubt had even heard of them. I ended up buying something else and took the bus back home to Boston, but on the way, for some reason could not get this incredible cover out of my mind. I literally ended up taking the bus back and buying it that same day. Imagine how blown my mind was when I played the album. I nailed the cover to my wall so I could see it all the time. I still have it and still treasure it.
Now, Mitch is seriously underrated!
ALL my boomer/WW2 senior patients get down to this when I play it. Too fabulous!

Such great memories. Remember going to the Village in downtown Detroit in the early 60's. Mitch was Billy Lee then, singing soul and R&B. He later formed Billy Lee & the Rivieras, which became Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.

Played by the Mighty Rock Radio XERB out of Tijhuana Mexico, on the Wolfman Jack Show, nightly R&R that was listened to by a lot of teens throughout the country, and one of the best groups to play R&R !
I was working at WMEX in Boston when this came out and I remember when the record company rushed us an acetate of the re-mix of the original pressing (which they wanted us to stop playing).
Holy smokes-this version is what I remember from my 13-1/2-y.o. neighbor's 45 in early '67 (I was 6 years younger) and, of course, on 93 KHJ in greater L.A.!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!!
It must be scarce, since I have never been able to find it until today. The later pressings are plentiful but this is the real deal! Woo-Hoo!

And of course we all know why it is such a rare version. When you know what to listen for, its apparent why it was re-cut. Two of the most blatant profanities of the 1960's. I didn't realize it until the 80's when I began collecting oldies at Itunes.
Lance Loud danced to this tune with with Mrs. Loud in "An American Family" (the lucky so-and-so!).
Laugh In with Rowan and Martin used this line quite often.
Remember the parody of Nixon uttering this phrase. Sock it to me, Biden (like he ever could -- another traitor to our country)

When I played in a cover band in the '60s, this, plus Devil with a Blue Dress and CC Ryder, were required playing at the local dances.
Mitch disappeared almost as quickly as he arrived on the scene. SHould be in the Hall of Fame.

I fixed the 45 single of this owned by my sister. It had a skip. I pushed on the needle and it cut right through the skip. Guessed the remedy myself.
