    Nice to hear the video has inspired you! Good place to find cheap climbing rope is the UKC climbing forum. Lots of people should have spare rope especially if you stipulate old rope will do as you won't be hanging from it.
    We did use the GH1 and set the focus to manual so it wouldn't keep changing. Try & choose a deep focus if the lighting conditions allow.

    you can also put a series of springs on the line towards the end, each one getting stiffer and stiffer as it nears towards the tree

    One little thing i found that tended to save my camera was to hang like a shirt or a peice of old rag about a foot long over the cable at the end as if i was drying it and it just gave the camera a less harsh stop at the end.

    Sick bro. Awesome video. Not too good from the cable can, but the area you are biking it is just plain amazing/beautiful!!! I would love to be you in that moment...

    @Zac98Mac89 Cheers! We used a DSLR camera so more like the weight of your HD camcorder but I've seen other people make some decent cable cams with smaller cameras like the Go Pro etc. I suppose it depends on what quality you want. I imagine the Full HD Camcorder would give you slightly better quality but it would probably cost more to replace if it all went wrong!

    We've also created a light weight GoPro cable cam which is on the Maia Media channel. It's worth experimenting with something in between because I'm sure you could use much lighter weight rope even for a camera like the GH1. Let us know how you get on.

    They are but they have to be separated a little otherwise they will squeak and rub. We created about a 3mm gap using a small nut.

    Hi again. We didn't use pulleys (we did at first but they were crap) we used inline skate wheels. See the link in the video description for full instructions.

    we hung a towel over the cable about 5 metres from the end which bought the camera to a stop without hitting the tree.

    Great work man, I might just make one now. By the way what type of vidio camera are you using? I have a contour and a JVC Full HD camcorder. What should I use?

    Hi this is an amazing video i've wanted to make one of these for awhile but didn't know where to start, climbing rope is quite expensive as your climbers any idea where to get some old climbing rope from ? also what camera are you using on the rope cam it's not the Panasonic GH1 is it how's it focusing on the way down on the rider ? look forward to your response :)

    I have a question. Are the pulley wheels 2 inline skate wheels side by side/tandem? I was going to use the same set up for a camera slider but they screeched and squeaked when rolling on the pipe.

    Ok cool thank you i do have another question where do i get the pulleys from that you've used, I've had a look in B&Q but can't find one that would work and there all to small for the size of climbing rope i can find, where most climbing rope is 10mm or at least that's what I've found and the pulleys are 8mm / 9mm please help lol :)

    We used wheels from a set of roller skates. There's a link to instructions within the video description.

    Lol, I just printed off a version of this with my 3D printer in 2 hours. It's a bit smaller but it works like a charm. :)

    • @sdpy15
      @sdpy15 9 років тому

      www.thingiverse.com/thing:849931
      Just scale it up by 1.25 and get the proper bearings, or attach a pair of your own. :)

    Hello ! how do you stop the cable cam ??? :/

    • @sdpy15
      @sdpy15 9 років тому +1

      +OWL You can get 4 or five large springs with a relatively weak tensile force, place them over the rope/cable, and let the setup run into them.

    im looking to build an rc one.

  • @MaiamediaCoUkcreative
    @MaiamediaCoUkcreative  14 років тому

    @SeriousFerox You should make one! We had the climbing ropes/cable but otherwise we only spent about £50 in B&Q on bits to make the frame. We've written write up on how we made it. Just go to teampickle dot co dot uk
