Building a culture of honor includes forgiving the bad, remembering the good, and serving the Lord. Steve Murrell helps us lay a biblical foundation for how to honor and value those around us.
While honor is important, I think when we center it as a defining value it multiplies dysfunction. Honor cultures are more likely to fight to defend their honor. They create an atmosphere where those with prestige have a different set of rules, especially those whose intrinsic traits set them apart: talent, intelligence, and beauty are the highest ideals. This leads to scandal and coverup in churches. Instead, let's place grace as the central value by focusing our values around the process of restoration: guilt, forgiveness, acceptance, and calling.
Greetings, As amazing as always, I just have a question, question: about honoring our parents while disobeying, so what about 2 Timothy 3, which warns us about "disobedient to parents" ?
Very touching , though I wish he had added one more scriptural thought to honouring your father and mother, that is taking care of them when they are old, financially supporting them when required. That thought is definitely included in the commandment, which is why Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not allowing a son to do anything further for this parents on religious grounds (saying Corban Mk 7:9-13). It is a definite scriptural duty. Not all parents everywhere, or always would be in a position to take care of themselves in their old age or would have savings , social security , etc to fall back when their earning capacity is gone, as in some developed countries or even physical care. And especially in Israel, being predominantly agricultural, the question of savings for the future would not even arise. and they would definitely have to be taken care of by their children , especially sons, who would still be on the land. I believe the same principle applies today.
I truly wish I could have heard these words from Pastor Steve a decade ago.
