I keep it headcannon that you play as Artanis in StarCraft, and then you play as Selendis in Broodwar. The same goes for Matt Horner. His outfit screams "Magistrate". Plus, he has been with Raynor since the very beginning. We have never seen him before Wings of Liberty, so it totally makes sense that you are Matt Horner in Star Craft.
The story writer at this "Old Blizzard" is Chris Metzen. The story writer at the "New Blizzard" is also Chris Metzen. So it's more like if Tolkien himself wrote a sequel where he retconned his own vision. Metzen definitely isn't as good as he used to be.

Raszagal is the first female Protoss character ever. Also - the only one in SC1. She is also the oldest Protoss in the entire series - over 1000 years old :)

It continued to make mention of Artanis as the Executor after the death of the Overmind. "Executor" isn't a rank like General, only one Protoss can claim the title at one time.
@chuchomp I keep saying it over and over again. This is a "retcon". Blizzard previously had the Executor and Artanis as separate characters during the time of the original game's release. About the time SC2 rolled around, they decided to change the canon so that they were the same character. Think of it as if Blizzard had redacted those lines that reference the Execute and Artanis as separate characters.
Oh man good times.. SC voice over is so much more awesome than SC2. Each character here has it's own individuality, in the sequel i feel like 4 people did the voice of all characters. Artanis is the executor in ep.3 ( player is Artanis ) - confirmed by Blizz Selendis is the executor in ep.4 - fans suspicion
If Artanis is the Executor in this one, ( which seems pointless for them to have made it that way) then apparently he is schitzophrenic as well. 2:17 "Executor, I am Artanis"
I think wings of liberty campaign was SO disappointing. I hope heart of the swarm will be better. Because these old missions are just more than epic. They are perfect.
@karambiatos Yeah, they went overboard on Brood War. He went from practical to a smartass between the 2 Protoss campaigns (he was brave and self-sacrificing for real reasons then, not because he was "just that good, kids"...)

The deal with Selendis being the unnamed Executor you play as in Brood War's Protoss campaign is still an unconfirmed theory.

How would LoTR fans react if Tolkiens son wrote a sequel where he "retconned" the fathers version? This fashion to retell stories is worrisome as it shows that the new game makers preffer to retell than to hold story true and coherent to the first version.

+Mark Davis Artanis got introduced in Starcraft: Brood War, so it is absolute retcon bullshit that Artanis was the Executor in Starcraft 1.

I love the characters in Starcraft, its a shame that they dumbed Raynor and Zeratul down so much in SC2
It doesn't, otherwise Artanis would have been demoted to Praetor and then promoted back to Executor again. Again, this is a retcon.
