Hey, if you ever need hard to get GPUs, contact me. We have a warehouse with all kinds of GPUs, mainly for mining though. If there ever is something I could help out with, hit me up (contact in my yt profile)
You should probably tell your jazz quintet to keep it down just a bit. Haha Awesome video though, and I can’t wait to see (and hear) how that server turns out
Loving this type of content. I'd be really interested in a video on "converting your worthless mining rig into a cloud gaming server" I've got plenty of new gpus but pairing them with other appropriate hardware to do more useful work would be fun
Thanks for another exiting video. Cannot wait to see how the build is going to work. Your videos is usually of very high quality but this one how a could of issues with the background music. At 5:10 the sound goes up and at 6:52 it goes down. In both cases it seems to me they are not timed with what happens in the video. And again at 8:56 it goes it suddenly goes up while you are still talking. Just a friendly feedback that I hope you find useful :)
Thank you! I mostly wanted to know about our GPU power connectors on the board and how to properly plug in our Tesla's. Also, many much better beers that come from Silverton. For having a population of around 12k, we have like 5 breweries.
7:19 "I did ran into a couple of snags" Lol !!!! I have been trying to pass those snags with my r730 for 2 weeks now :) At the beginning of your video, when I saw 3 cards together I started to scratch my hair :)
Hard to tell from the video, but if those are SAS drives you have planned to go in they won't work; this server only supports SATA drives without adding an HBA. I have the same model (got it super cheap for parts), also from Elemental. Fun fact: this line of servers was one of those mentioned in the Bloomberg 'Big Hack' article.
I got the 2U version of that SM server off eBay. It was soooooooooo looooouuuuuud. I managed to get the case fans down to a dull roar via the IPMITOOL command line utility, but I couldn't find compatible power supplies that didn't sound like a 747. Eventually decommissioned it. I just couldn't put up with the noise.
Can't wait to get my hands on a rack and start making my own home servers but i need more power in my office before i can do that. Also, lil comment about the video itself, i felt the music was a tad too loud when you were talking and was often drowning you out.
I was about to pull trigger on MI25, but stopped as I couldn't find drivers for guest, I was able to find some older versions drivers that had appropriate pciid, but not having ability to keep up with latest drivers is bad
I have been eyeballing these multi-GPU servers for a while. If I didn't already have my 2x R720s with 1000w PSUs, I would have considered something like this. This also creates an awesome solution to that pesky issue of cooling the cards. Sort of like "Hey, have you tried putting that card where it was supposed to go?" lol. The expensive part here seems to be the ram and the cards. The barebones already came with 1000W PSUs, the processors are fairly cheap... I suppose you could scale the server back to regular old Tesla M40s and some adapters if someone wanted to scale back the budget.
This isn't a "solution" to the cards though. The problem with these cards is that cooling them is LOUD. Not that it's HARD. This actually makes the problem much MUCH worse since you have to deal with all the other 1U nonsense.
I'm building this same server (but a slightly older generation of server that only takes E5-26xx v2 CPUs. I have the same power cable problem and I noticed that you didn't include a link in the video description to your power cable solution. Can you add links to those so I can find a similar cable? Thanks.
Obligatory comment for the algo. I love your server content. I wish I could share a drink with you at the end of these episodes (8 years without one now).
Found this because I'm actually interested doing what your doing! I want to use CAD software, perform video editing. Having access to all this on my personal Server on the go is a tempting proposition..... Unlike other channels filled with gloss and expensive servers I could never afford. I like your channel because it features equipment with a price point that makes sense in a home-lab environment . An essential cornerstone of any serious IT Professional.
The Tesla K80 is a Kepler-based GPU. It does work for virtual gaming via PCIe passthrough: ua-cam.com/video/Z5Isf6Airo0/v-deo.html However, you can't split the K80 into multiple GPUs like you can Pascal or Turing based GPUs using nVidia GRID.
Background music - nice, but a tad too loud while talking over! Even ramps up at 5:10 while you still talking and gets quieter at 6:50 for no reason. Editing without head phones?
This is gonna be an oddball one - where did you get that knife? Been looking for one of those iridescent blades that aren't junk quality for years. At a glance, I'd say it's a Kershaw?
Haven't seen this asked yet, so does the rear GPU get its airflow from the front GPU's exhaust? Surely this wouldn't provide adequate cooling for the rear card under heavy workloads? Is there some mitigation for this, is it not the issue I think, or do you just have to be careful with workloads?
i have clients doing something similar with 4x 1080ti cards in a newer supermicro chassis as workstation/render boxes. key is that the things rip air through them, there is a *lot* of airflow. cooling has never been a problem in them.
@@micahroth2332 Ah of course. So the exhaust of the first one doesn't heat up heaps to cool the front card, which still leaves capacity for the rear card. Thanks!
I hate you, I keep watching this series on your cloud gaming server while wanting to build one for my kids, this is addicting ;) What kind of tower server would you recommand for a dual GPU setup, maybe 3, I looked over the dell T630, any suggestion please ?
sorry to break the bubble - but at this moment only S7150 support mxgpu... (GIM) AMD sr-iov module; so good luck with your mi25 - but its most likely (100%) won't work with GIM.
I'm building a blue iris server with a Dell R720XD. Since xeons don't have quicksinc, can I use a headless gpu like those as a replacement for quicksinc functionality?
You say $259 cloud gaming server, I say the chassis doesn't matter when you can't afford any Tesla or GRID GPUs or a replacement CPU or additional RAM.
Personally, I am worried that someday China is going to flip a switch and all of the SuperMicro machines (and a few other brands as well) are going start sending the contents of everything it has access to back to China and start charging items on your credit cards, log into your bank accounts and 401k's, and instantly start sending all of your available funds and savings to Chinese bank accounts... Don't get me wrong --they are usually pretty solid bits of hardware offered at a great price to entice people to purchase and put them into use. I know I know, the conspiracy theorist in me is poking its head up a little high on this matter. But nonetheless that voice inside me is screaming...
You realize that entire story was a farce, right? There is no blackbox. There is no chip the size of a grain of rice with its own storage, CPU, network, etc. Nor could a chip inside a system destined for enterprise datacenters EVER exfiltrate data without an organization knowing.
I keep seeing you all with these GPU's I wonder how well they would work with building a Security Camera system. With AI. I know people are like just buy a system. But with Blue Iris. I want to max out some of the futures, and it can be power hungry and I want to see how fare I can really take my security camera system with like with 8k video or better .

The music is really loud on this one, and continuous
Yeah music is way too loud
Yep way too loud and doesn't need to be continuous
Agreed. The elevator music was too persistent.
That's going to be a genuinely nice build. I do wonder how much of a screamer that is going to be.

@Craft Computing
Sounds like the audio mix is a little wonky at 5:10, music comes up a bit louder than the dialogue.
Another peak around 9:00, its like the artists is trolling people using the track
5:09 Looks like the saxophonist got a little excited
"Wait until the next video before buying" is always a good thing to see next to an ebay link... :D
i think the music was bit loud while you talked first half but anyways enjoyed the video.

Same. The music was a git too loud during the middle, and then almost too quiet near the end.

You seem mighty handy with that there knife, sir.
Love your content man but man that music was way to loud when you where talking. Really distracting, awesome build though
No amount of waiting will change the fact that the seller of that GPU probably won't ship to Australia...

Any similar setup to host 4x 4090s?
Could this be done with consumer hardware? Using an E-atx board, with twin RX 6700's/6800's, a 5900X or a 5800X3D. Paired with 32-64GB DDR4.

What's your trick for getting amazing deals on used hardware like this?
Typically eBay
