Wow you guys surely love boardgames! Would you consider doing a video about boardgames in the future? E.g. explaining a boardgame in Portuguese, filming the team playing a boardgame, etc. I suggest this because I believe playing and explaining boardgames is one of the best ways to learn languages!

Can you explain the following sentence structures?
"Isto vai ter o nome de uma pessoa e, a quem calhar, essa pessoa vai poder escolher uma destas prendas."
Does "calhar" mean "perhaps" here? How does the clause "a quem calhar" fit here?
"A primeira pessoa fica com essa prenda, quem vier a seguir, vai ter a oportunidade de..."
What does the clause "quem vier a seguir" mean? And why is it in this verb form here?
I know the form "vir a + (verb)" and I know the future conjunctive, both having given me a lot of headaches and till this day I still don't know when to use them.
Now imagine how I felt when I saw this sentence combined two of the most mysterious structures in Portuguese grammar 😫

Hi! 1) The fixed phrase "se calhar" means "maybe", yes. But here, "calhar" is used alone as a future subjunctive conjugation of the verb "calhar". "A quem calhar", means something like "whoever gets it" or, more specifically in this context, "the person whose name is picked". 2) "Quem vier a seguir" means "whoever comes next". This is not the construction "vir a + verb" --> "vir" is actually the only verb in the clause used as such, because "a seguir" is used as a phrasal adverb in this context (meaning "next" or "after", and interchangeable, e.g. with "depois"). Hope this helps :) - Joseph
