I had the good fortune of being able to play in the Haight Street shop with Chicha Libre. I just loved the whole vibe of the place, and they allowed band members to take home a handful of CDs as a “thank you“ for the performance. I was living in the Bronx at the time. I remember being established a T someone an aggressive, dark energy of the street people and panhandlers out on the street- i’m used to that sort of thing in New York, but this had a whole intense, dark, angry component but I just wasn’t used to. Of course it’s really rough being poor and addicted to drugs, I just never witnessed it expressed so openly out on the street.

I love Amoeba - i’ve always enjoyed my couple of visits whenever on the West Coast- it’s astonishing to me that NYC has hardly anything like this, maybe A couple of small used record shops in Brooklyn perhaps, maybe a few holdovers in the village, maybe not. Come on New York!
