It's very low dosage of sulforaphane - 400 mcg = 0.4 mg. Something like BROQ (quite expensive) has 10 mg of stabilized sulforaphane in each pill. In other words, you'd have to take about 25 of the Swanson pills for the same amount of SF. I only supplement when I don't want to eat any more raw broc (not a big fan), red cabbage, or I'm too lazy to do broc sprouts (the most cost-effective way to get SF).
I normally steam and then briefly microwave my peas/carrots/broccoli (mostly broccoli) mix. But since Dr. Patrick says here that Brussel sprouts have 3X more the sulforaphane than broccoli I hope to go back to eating them very often. I always did this by spraying them with avocado oil and roasting them on a perforated tray in the toaster oven. But at what temp and at what duration before the sulforaphane and/or its absorption properties are substantially reduced?
FYI - Sulforaphane doesn't naturally occur in cruciferous veggies - it is created when the veg is chopped or chewed, which combines glucoraphanin with the enzyme myrosinase. Heating the veggies inactivates the myrosinase: though it is possibly found in the gut biome and can combine with glucoraphanin, you can add it by sprinkling some mustard powder or ground mustard seeds on your cooked broc, Brussels sprouts, etc. or eating some raw arugula, mustard greens, etc. in addition to the cooked veggies.
