It's a fun helicopter to fly... I fly this D model and an E model. Both are the same but different... Then there is the 600N, which is nice and powerful, but I like the 500's.
outstanding! i work for beegles aircraft service, north of denver.we do all the high alt. aircraft recoveries in the mountains here in the midwest.,we use llamas and pumas,206's.we have 14ers here, gotta use the bigger ships.great videos....keep'em comin!!!
Shawn, I've been following your video's since your days in gyrocopters, and your beginning in Helo's. Seriously, you seem to be living what I dream. This is one of the best videos I have seen. Keep up the good work.
I got my single engine, fixed wing license in the minimum 40hrs. I wonder if I could obtain my rotor wing in the minimum required too. Owning an MD500 is my dream.
Element of Kindness NO... this industry is regulated by insurance companies... then ratings... I went from fixed wing to Rotorcraft. Never regretted it even once. Now I fly large multi fixed wings and would rather flay Rotorcraft anytime..
really enjoyed this. I only did enough slopes to get my commercial rating a few years ago (which is now quite dusty) and I never got terribly comfortable with them (S300CB). Like someone else said, the camera angle you set up is great for watching you fly the aircraft. I have about 5 hours in 500D and 500E. If I won the lotto (unlikely, since I don't play it!) an E model would be on my Toy Short List 8^) .
Nice 🚁-Video 👍🏼 Is it the McDonnellDouglas 500 D model or another (for example) like the older Hughes without the "T - Tail?" Oh, and are you in between a commercial Chopper Pilot? With kindest regards ✌🏼
Great video! Probably the best I've seen on UA-cam. Nice flying! How long have you been flying helicopters? I just got my commercial helicopter rating August 2nd! I've flown Schweizer 300C's, Enstrom F-28A's, Bell 47's, OH-58C Kiowa, Robinson R-22. I'd love to fly a Hughes/MD 500. Very nice video position... You can see everything so well. Stick, pedal movements and the instruments. It looks like you have a top notch instructor. Where is this? Thanks for posting!
Great job on the video. This has to be some of the best shot as well as positioned video I've seen on YT. Who is the trainer? I'm intrigued as to the depth he seems to go as many helo trainers are the generic type, to say the least. Again---Nice job!!!
how do you afford to do stuff like this? especially an MD 500? I struggle to make 1 flight every 2 weeks in a 300 CBI. I can feel my dreams of flying around for the next 20 or so year slipping away. IF costs continue to slide up, I will be ejected from flight.

My first helicopter flight was in 500 variant. I have been in love with it since. Long live the Little Bird!
Great video! I love the MD-500 and watching these mountain maneuvers just makes me wanna go fly!
I have flown with a few in my day I considered above average pilots. This guy in one of the best I ever saw. Great job on the low altitude auto.
You made it all look easy...great video! Thanks for posting!
Great footage...the 500 D is my favorite helicopter..
Nice aircraft and good job with the confined area!
Great MD helicopter video! Good camera !
Great video and great piloting of that 500.

Thanks for that. It's been a fun road and It still going good.. Thank You for the comment..
I will be flying a helicopter like this, or the 407, this time next year! A promise to myself. And a prayer request to God
Good stuff, thanks for posting/sharing
Hey Carl. This is actually just in the mountains outside our airport.. Kind of just open range... It was a great place to learn to fly...
@marxg4 thanks.... My instructor always challenges me and allows me to make all the decisions based for the maneuvers....
@Helicopterpilot16 yes.. MD500 PIC is left seat.
I like the narrow console for visibility. Wished they all had those.
This is so awesome! I'll fly a MD500 one day if i'm lucky!
great clip and great flying.
nice camera angle, very well done, tks for sharing
csmythe8 h
@gtokarsk We just never set that artificial horizon before we took off...
Well done Mr. Adams.
@Helicopterpilot16 Not sure Tyler.. at 1:12 I was too high for any ground effect.
Awesome dude!
Wow Great Video!!!! thanx

Cyclic trim.. To help off-set the cyclic forces...
Nice 🚁-Video 👍🏼

Oh, and are you in between a commercial Chopper Pilot?
With kindest regards ✌🏼
I am also lucky to fly an E model with a clear nose cockpit
beautifull Helicopter. Much better then the Robinson. Man that thing is ugly :O
No.. A hover auto.. Simulated engine failure in a low hover...
what is that button that the pilot presses with his thumb once a while? is it trim reset or something like that?

ZOMG....i wanna go fly choppers now

Again---Nice job!!!
Cool video - nice flying. Curious what your TT was at this point and also how many hours you'd had in the MD.
Do you hold a commercial rating? How many hours do you have total and how many hours in MD500s?
Did anyone else notice the Woodland Wookie darting between the trees @ 2:51?
any helicopter under 12,500lbs (I think) you need to be 17 years old... But check
Hey Shawn, its tyler. Is that ground effect or are you transitioning out of ETL at 1:12
Didn't this video used to have Mungo Jerry playing in the background, or am I thinking of a different one?
Looks like the attitude indicator is busted...or it was caged/reset prior to taking off.
Excellent skills! Try relaxing your grip on cyclic control--looks like a death grip! Easier said then done though
Hey shawn, I have not read all the comments and I dont know if anyone has ask you. where did you get your training at ?
ok thanks
de veras, muy bien amigo, tener algun Doritos :)
Are these controls boosted?
where is it please?? It's really wonderful
Southern Oregon...
thank for the fast answer ^^
Why does the attitude indicator seem to look a little disoriented
how do you afford to do stuff like this? especially an MD 500?
