Hi David! This Azaleas painting is B - E - A - UTIFUL! I enjoyed it this morning. The overall design reminds me a bit of the "C-Scroll" shape I've seen you incorporate into flower paintings in other videos. I know I'm not alone when I say that I'm a big fan of the "ghost flowers." You just can't beat the misty, soft feeling they evoke. The blue lattice-like background patterning creates an interesting contrast against the sweeping flow of the Azaleas. Thank you for demonstrating how to do that for us! As always, you explained techniques that I'm in the process of storing in my own "toolbox." (As a fellow left-brain painter -- yes -- I do need to hear things about 700 times before they really sink in. LOL.) I'm delighted to hear that you're going to be doing another version of this painting on the PAINT IT SIMPLY channel. What a great idea! And thank you very much for cautioning us again never to disparage our own work -- and for explaining how that negative stuff stays in our brain. You're a true mentor. Just wondering if, as you are painting one small area, are you quickly glancing the total canvas? Every little spot, I feel like you have given a guick overview.
Also, I'd like to see garden bed flowers like Dusty Miller, Salvia, Bachelor's Buttons. Those pesky little oddball flowers AND their proper leaves. 💕 the channel!!!
Thoroughly enjoying this tutorial. Much as I love learning to paint, one of my bug bears is... When trying to use an A4 printed photo, I find it a bit of a problem trying to get the right scale on my board, which is usually larger. Should I use a grid system, or will it come with experience? I also seem to have an issue with not mixing enough colour on my pallet, and as a result, I might end up with a colour that is not a perfect match.

Sorry to bother you, but I'm having trouble mixing a teal colour, I've tried ultra blue and yellow with a little white, is this right??
Don't use ultramarine. Use phthalo blue and Hansa yellow with white or phthalo green blue with touch Hansa and white.
