Completely get this story - my Dad is abut to turn 70, got his ebike last autumn and has already done 1k miles! He rides at least every other day, a huge change given he was not doing much exercise at all before that point. He tells me he feels both physically fitter and mentally sharper too. All the ebike haters really do need to remember that they will get older one day...
Well done to your dad. Tell him from me that @ 78 I am close behind him. My Focus Jam 2 is the best thing I have done for years of riding iron !steam powered bikes..... I do far mor riding now than ever before and cant wait to go out again Havefun
Your Dad is so great. I started MTB at 60 yrs old and I am hooked. Ride now 2-3 X a week. Hope to be riding at 80+. Look forward to more vids with your father.
Do you know what mate...…..I am guilty of being in the "I don't like these" camps but having just seen you and your Dad spend 2 days on trails having a laugh, to be honest it has changed my opinion. My Dad is 78 and very much non mobile these days but I can see how these machines are going to get more people riding. Might have to get hold of a demo bike from somewhere. Great video.
tarmacsurfers I think one can make a useful comparison with golf (yea, actually!) Having the handicap system allow all generations and a lot more with disabilities to enjoy and actually compete with one another. Puttning a motor and a controlling computer/mcu on a bike is not just making it a MC but something much more and inbetween those "camps". My mother is 65 and would love riding some trails with me and my sons, let's hope the prices to fall when the numbers go up!
I am a few months short of my eighth birthday, and have been blessed with still having good health. Before the Covid virus put me into self-isolation I was out riding the local trails most days no problems at all. However, I have been riding the Southern England trails for many years. One lesson I have learnt since I have aged is that when I fall off I don’t bounce nowadays. I tend to just lay there whimpering..LOL
Bless your Dad. We should all keep the link to this video saved to respond to the haters in the forums. I have never rode an e-bike and hope I don't have to for a long time, but this is a perfect example of how modern technology can improve the lives of those who need it. Much love to all who enjoy mountain biking and the outdoors however they are able to access it.
My grandad is 81 and he enjoys wizzing about on his ebike and they are amazing because someone his age doesn't have the capacity to ride far and build speed and it really helps when he needs it and they can clock in at great speeds too.they are a bit pricey but seeing this video and from personal experience id highly recommend it.great to see the elderly having fun biking like they would in their youth😃
Thank you for this! I’m 71 and I have been riding road bikes and mountain bikes for decades, but as I got older I became less able to enjoy it like I used to. I got an electric road bike 4 years ago when I retired, then last year I retrofitted a motor to my Trek Marlin to see if that might help to get me back on the trails. It did! I’m enjoying my old trails now and I’m awaiting delivery of a new Canyon Spectral On. Life is good, thanks to the miracle of electricity!
Before watching this video, I've been wondering how many more years I can enjoy my favorite thing in the world, MTB. This video just blows me away. I'm 45 and I still have many more years ahead. Great job producing this video.
Great video. Glad your dad now can continue mountain biking at 80. I am 65 and considering buying a e mtn bike so I can continue to mtn biking like your dad. The e mtn bike haters need to watch this video. Thank You and congrats to your dad.
A lovely story. I ride with a 75 year old and we have great fun. Having said that, I don't really subscribe to the idea that ebikes are only for old or disabled people. I'm neither of those things and love my Kenevo. I bought it because I love riding steep downhill single track but there are no shuttles on my trails. The ebike means I can hit those trails all day long. So much fricken fun.
Add me to that list too. I have a top of the range carbon Enduro bike, that I was always pretty quick on, but I made the mistake of riding a Levo expert and now the Enduro sits gathering dust. It's all about the fun factor for me and the ebike is more fun, plain and simple!
What a great video! It was so much fun to see your Dad smiling after he started riding and at that moment his age meant nothing. At 67 I tell everyone that I’m not old enough for a e-bike, but now I look forward to someday having my own. My wish is that the two of you continue riding together for as long as possible! Enjoy!!
Just awesome how happy you both must be to enjoy the trails together. Screw any controversy bikes have there place and yours just proved it. 80 years old and mountain biking just awesome. Enjoy your dads company!
Awesome job by your dad. It's kinda reassuring knowing that we can enjoy this sport for many years because of ebikes. You gotta take your dad to whistler now!
What a cool video! James, it was so neat to see your Dad get excited about riding and realizing that it is something he can keep doing. Screw the e-bike controversy of whether or not they should be allowed on trails...for older folks or folks with disabilities, e-bikes are a way for them to experience the same love of the sport that we all have.
Dear James, I'm little bit jealous. I would have loving doing that with my Dad, an passion cyclist, in his last year while fighting cancer. So best greetings to your Dad "Keep on shredding!" (Get that pee out of my eyes!)
I'm so glad to see this. Just bought an emtb for my 70+ father, he's never (seriously) pedaled before but I have a feeling he'll love it! Some priceless father&son time
More power to your dad! I purchased a Giant Trance Advanced X +0 @ 6 months ago. At my age, the up hills were just too much for me. Now, at age 75, I went from 86th best time on my local 5 mile long trails; to top 10 for the year in 4 sections! I used to have to stop and rest 1/2 way through the trail, and now just using the 3rd of 5 assist modes, I rocket through 2 consecutive laps and feel like superman!
You hit a home run James. I have a friend 84 and he still rides full suspention Mountain Bikes in Birmingham Alabama. I wish I could meet your dad he seems like a great guy.
Well done to your father and to a great video James. My wife has remitting relapsing MS and although she can ride a normal bike, Verderers Trail was a little bit too much for her recentlyand we had to take the shortcut back to the Centre. After watching this would be rude not to get her an e-bike.
I am 62 and have a great mate diagnosed with MS 10 years ago. I convinced him to buy an e-mtb about a year ago and now we ride together at least weekly....when I say convinced ...it took one ride on my e-mtb. We first rode together over 40 years ago!
One of the best emtb videos I have ever watched. I am 55 and have a few health issues which can hopefully be overcome with doing some fizz. Your Dad is an inspiration and being 25 years younger than him makes me think if he can do it and has has the hunger for it so can I!!! :)
Wonderful video! I hope we embrace ebikes in America soon. This is my best hope to be able to continue mountain biking as i age. I am almost 53 years old now and still hit the trails....but i realize my body is weakening and my time to ride is growing short. E bikes will give me many more years of pedaling. Please allow them on the trails!
Hi nice video 62 years old had lapierre spicy for 3 mouths just changed to a lapierre ezesty best move easy to ride and brings a big 😊 to ur face well done to ur dad big smile on his face cheers nigel
I'm 50 and want one bad....and I'd want one if I was 20 too! I'm actually in better shape than most 20 year olds....I weight train hard and walk/hike about 30 miles a week. I also have a Stumpjumper and live in Denver, riding some of the best trails in the USA (Buffalo Creek, Little Shaggy trails in Colorado for instance), among other things ;). My point being, E-MTB bikes ROCK and are an absolute BLAST to ride. The ONLY thing keeping me from one right now is cost...I can't see spending $5k on an acoustic mtb, let alone $6-10 for a high end E-mtb. Folks that have a problem with e-bikes should live and let live!!!! AND... try one before you condemn them... jheez! I can say one thing with certainty: If I were NOT into them, I sure as hell wouldn't condemn them or criticize them the way come people do. People actually get UPSET and angry about ....AWESOME Bikes,? Seriously? saying they're just mopeds and motorcycles, and they have no place on mtb trails. WHAAAATTTTT???? Why not? (And we're talking about PEDAL ASSIST HERE) they do no more damage than a regular bike, still require a LOT of energy input from the rider, and harm NO ONE! I honestly cannot believe when I hear "BAN THEM BAN THEM" from people. What ever happened to FREEDOM???? No, lets have the government tell us what we can and cannot do, even when it is illogical and hurts our freedoms! wow. Just...WOW! Closed-minds MUCH?????
I bought a basic hardtail E-Bike two months ago and I'm having the time of my life. I also have a roadbike and a high end MTB, but right now I couldn't afford a high end E-Bike. Downgrading on suspension and bike components is not that bad, everything works fine and weight is not a problem on an E-bike. Next year I'll start to upgrade all the componentes and I'm pretty sure my next bike will be a FS E-Bike, but right now I'm extremely happy with my Focus Bold2.
I'm 48 and I just got my e-mtb, the last time I rode a bike was 30 years ago, if not for the e-bike I'd probably never ride a bicycle again. My goal is not to ride fast, I just want to travel greater distance and get some exercise along the way, I couldn't have done it without e-bike. I can't wait to take my fat bike to local trails and I love my bike so much I've been riding my e-mtb in 105F weather, everyone's happy that I've become active again, it's the best $1800 I've ever spent!
Desert Monk Thats great - have a blast! Wow are used to ride motorcross and be quite fast, I’ve slowed down in my cough cough middle-age cough cough LOL! I’m shooting for next June to get mine!
To me that is the most honest review I have watched on both sides of the pond (Atlantic Ocean) as in my case due to poor eyesight DVLA refused to let me drive my car and I miss getting out and about so need wheels and either a Hybrid or a Mountain E-bike would suit me down to the ground (no pun intended). Plus I am a photographer so getting out and about is a must for me. Thank your Dad for showing us oldies, anything is possible if we want it badly enough.
That’s awesome! My Dad’s 75 and had a little go on my normal MTB & liked it. My folks are just about to move to Wales about 12 miles from Revs, think I’m gonna have to look into getting him on an e bike and see where we can get him!
Great video, great example of how e-bikes fit into the biking community. I have had failed back surgery which resulted in painful nerve damage down my left leg. All our friends are road and mountain bikers and I have never been able to take part. I've just bought a SDURO e-bike after having a demo ride - I cannot wait to get out onto the many trails around our area & also enjoy riding with our friends and being able to keep up! Thanks for an inspiring review - hope it changes some peoples minds.
This was great! E-bikes do have a place, and when I get to the point where a standard bicycle is just too much anymore, and @ 53 it's not as easy as it was 20 years ago when I started riding seriously, I wouldn't hesitate trying an E-bike. It's all about getting out there.
I think that's the whole point of an e-bike, to bring people that are not that able to ride a regular bike into our mtb world, In this case was your dad, I would love to bring my parents into cycling and with e-bikes that might actually happen. Awesome video.
My dad died at the age of 56, he never got to see me take up MTBing. My son however has been bought up with two wheels. I'm 55 and have finally decided to have an ebike, as I want to save my knees, I'm not knackered yet and can still put in a fair few miles..
Great video and well done to you and your dad. I switched to an e bike at 75 years of age and 3 years later I have completed nearly 3000 miles all over Devon and Cornwall. Due to health problems stemming from various motorbike accidents I had reached a point where I could not get up the hills any more. The only downside is that I do not have anyone to ride with which can reduce the fun and can be a problem if you break an ankle miles from anywhere as I did.
Thanks for this! My dad is also in his 70’s just had shoulder surgery and he wants to ride with me but can’t keep up. Although ebikes are technically illegal on many of our trails I intend to be a rebel because it’s the choice between my dad riding and not riding and if people have a problem with an old man riding an ebike on our trails then that’s their problem and i choose not to make it mine. I suspect not a single person is going to complain and I hope it will help people keep an open mind as to why ebikes serve a very important purpose for those that otherwise could not enjoy our sport.
Good on you James !! While I dont have an ebike (yet) it may be that sooner or later it will be the option that keeps me riding after 60 or so. Something for us all to keep in mind is that aging is inviable, if we survive all the great rides then we will all get older.
Watching two men trying to communicate is painful ;-P Just give em a hug & tell him how proud you are of him ^^ PS - I'll definitely be getting an e-bike one day... Whether I'm 65, 75 or 85 - it'll be epic!
I recently turned 65 & got me a Sondors Rockstar.. Its really nice if not a bit heavy at 83#… built like a brick s### house & huge batt… I highly recommend it!
Well, I'm 78 and ride road, gravel and MTB. Now I don't ride all that long. If I get air, it is a big mistake. I've been beaten by 12 year olds on a 25 miler, but love riding. In my case, no heart issues now, my concern is for balance, not setting up for the turns in time, crashing and burning, cause I don't bounce anymore. I would suggest that your Dad is more prone to falling off. So I bought a tadpole trike, which I really dislike, but falling is out of the question. Just a suggestion for your Dad. I guess they make electric trikes as well. Thanks for the video. Jim
Ebikes are awesome for older people and overweight people and thhose with lack of fitness. :) I wouldn't have it but I would get one for my 70 years old father.
Zagica e bikes are great for everyone and anyone who wants to ride one. Not just the tired the sick and the needy. I ride a normal bike 4 days a week and look forward to my e-mtb runs with my mates just as much at the weekends
This seems to be to logic of many "normal" bike riders, as long it's someone riding an ebike that they don't perceive to be a threat to their fragile egos.
I’m 45 and gravel, MTB, TT and all the rest. Just added an e-bike to the stable with full sums and plus tyres. It allowed me to double the number of downhill I would normally do and focus on technique. My decision was made when I looked at my MX doing nothing in the garage and thought is a 500cc MX cheating?
Nice one James! Great to meet you at BPW last week and talk to you about this video. Hoping to get my ol’ man on an Ebike soon. Sorry about my gobby son on the uplift, you shoulda slapped him when I gave you the chance 😂
Completely get this story - my Dad is abut to turn 70, got his ebike last autumn and has already done 1k miles! I'm 62 and have two e-mbs...a hardtail and a full sus...by the time I'm 80 I will have a whole stable ...e-mtbs have given me a new life!
Can you ride motocross bikes? Eg: Jump them, etc?
Well done to your dad. Tell him from me that @ 78 I am close behind him.
My Focus Jam 2 is the best thing I have done for years of riding iron !steam powered bikes.....
I do far mor riding now than ever before and cant wait to go out again
Havefun
Love to see people enjoying riding and the 80 year old smiling.

I wish my father is still alive I would surely buy him an ebike.
My sentiment exactly.
sorry for your lost
I feel the same. I’m happy for the father’s and son’s that are having fun together
Great job James. Your Dad is awesome!
I am a few months short of my eighth birthday, and have been blessed with still having good health. Before the Covid virus put me into self-isolation I was out riding the local trails most days no problems at all. However, I have been riding the Southern England trails for many years. Loved this, at 73, I found this helpful and encouraging, thank you

So awesome to see your dad out there smashing it. Gonna see if I can do the same for my 83 yr old father.
I love this! Should consider an ebike for my grandpa. Your dad's a superhero!
Thank you for this! I’m 71 and I have been riding road bikes and mountain bikes for decades, but as I got older I became less able to enjoy it like I used to. It's all about the fun factor for me and the ebike is more fun, plain and simple!
It's never too late. Oh boy, you dad looked so happy man :D Good for both of you.
Awesome video really encouraging to see your father at that age riding and enjoying himself.
Awesome.....God bless you and your dad
What a great video! It was so much fun to see your Dad smiling after he started riding and at that moment his age meant nothing. At 67 I tell everyone that I’m not old enough for a e-bike, but now I look forward to someday having my own. My wish is that the two of you continue riding together for as long as possible! Enjoy!!
My dad would have loved this, inspirational.
Just awesome how happy you both must be to enjoy the trails together. Screw any controversy bikes have there place and yours just proved it. 80 years old and mountain biking just awesome. Enjoy your dads company!
True inspiration. At 80, we usually think that most people are restricted to a walking aid. Your dad is awesome.
Such a refreshing video. A fantastic watch! Top work!
Awesome job by your dad. It's kinda reassuring knowing that we can enjoy this sport for many years because of ebikes. You gotta take your dad to whistler now!
Brilliant mate ...my dads 88 and still loves a ride out on his old mtb ....on the flat these days .....he would love a go on an e- bike ,god bless him

Great to see, ebikes definitely have their place in the MTB world, giving everyone the chance to share the experience
Love it! To see the joy that your dad had riding again is epic. Fantastic video. I hope I'm still riding at 80.
I’m 41, give me another couple of years an e bike could be fun addition :) Looked like great fun to head out with your Dad!
Dude your father's the boss! I'd put my signature now to look like him at 80!
Words fail me to say how happy I am for you two.
Dear James, I'm little bit jealous. I would have loving doing that with my Dad, an passion cyclist, in his last year while fighting cancer. So best greetings to your Dad "Keep on shredding!" (Get that pee out of my eyes!)

Dude that is so cool. I wish I had access to an e-bike to roll with my dad and trail doggy. I bet that was one of the best days you guys shared.
Fantastic!! I love my Levo! You and your dad rock! Wishing you both many miles of ebike smiles.
You hit a home run James. I have a friend 84 and he still rides full suspention Mountain Bikes in Birmingham Alabama. I wish I could meet your dad he seems like a great guy.
I absolutely loved watching this. It's so important to do things together as a family.
One of your best videos so far.. Hope I'm that fit when I'm 80..

This video aired four years ago. I hope your Dad is still riding. It would make him 84 years old! I ride, and next year I'll be 80 years old.

Awesome. Your Dad is cool as ice.
Inspiring and beautiful to see. 🚴😊
Yeah man. Your dad rules 👍😁
I’m 84 and have put over 4500 miles on my ebike. Looking forward to riding a couple more years.
I think that's the whole point of an e-bike, to bring people that are not that able to ride a regular bike into our mtb world, In this case was your dad, I would love to bring my parents into cycling and with e-bikes that might actually happen. Awesome video.
A wonderful video proving E-bikes do have a place. The looks on your dad's face were pricless, and hope to see him again. Cheers 😆
Personally I would not ride an e-bike but my dad is 72 years old and this is exactly what he would need to enjoy the trails the same way I can
My dad died at the age of 56, he never got to see me take up MTBing. My son however has been bought up with two wheels. I'm 55 and have finally decided to have an ebike, as I want to save my knees, I'm not knackered yet and can still put in a fair few miles..
Hoping you have many wonderful rides with your son 👍
Nice video I hope that get people riding and having the fun we all have from MTBiking.
80 years old,wow I hope I'm still alive at that age,E bike definitely. 👍
How awesome! Your dad shreds better than me.
Some impressive genes. Definitely ageing well.
amazing!
Your dad even sounds more confident, upbeat and younger after the third day/ride at 11:00!
Well said,,period
Good on you James !! While I dont have an ebike (yet) it may be that sooner or later it will be the option that keeps me riding after 60 or so. Something for us all to keep in mind is that aging is inviable, if we survive all the great rides then we will all get older.
Great video!
Fantastic video 👍🏻
Great vid!
Watching two men trying to communicate is painful ;-P
Just give em a hug & tell him how proud you are of him ^^
PS - I'll definitely be getting an e-bike one day... Whether I'm 65, 75 or 85 - it'll be epic!
i love this!!!!
Great video......
As a person with a disability I am looking forward to getting an electric tricycle. Great video.
I wanted to keep watching but there are so many ads
Brilliant!
I am 60 this year and ride a regular MTB bike 40 miles a week. When I am too weak to ride an E bike will be awesome!!!!
R Terry Define weak?
Compared to a 20 or 30 yr old, your weak now!
It's nothing to do with how weak you are, they're fun for everyone
I recently turned 65 & got me a Sondors Rockstar.. Its really nice if not a bit heavy at 83#… built like a brick s### house & huge batt… I highly recommend it!
PS…. Big Kudos to your Dad…, Id go ridin w him if I was on that side o the pond… coarse my bike would be illegal there probably… 750watt nominal
Great, this is the best use for e bikes
so cool thanks
Jim
Great video. I hope I'm as healthy as him when I'm that age.
Thank you
Ebikes are awesome for older people and overweight people and thhose with lack of fitness.
Full sus!
Great !
Nice one James! Great to meet you at BPW last week and talk to you about this video. Hoping to get my ol’ man on an Ebike soon. Sorry about my gobby son on the uplift, you shoulda slapped him when I gave you the chance 😂
jonboy1066 ha! Great to meet you too:) Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll do it for me!!
James Bracey oh yeah! He got a well earned slap 👋🏽😂
is day 1 at Caesars Camp?
