@@JoeRuizLordoftheRings 1. Papillon 2. Brute Force 3. Riot in cell block 11 4. Escape from Alcatraz. 5. A Man Escaped. That's my list :)
@E102 slamma that was awesome thank you God-bless you! P.S. I also love Clint Eastwood "Alcatraz" 😀
@@gold24k54 WOW u forgot shawhank redemption!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@gold24k54 No Shawshank?
My father recommended this movie to me and it's easily my personal best steve mcqueen film. Seen it over 10 times. Such masterful direction combined with the brilliant performances of mcqueen and hoffman makes this one of the best movies of all time. An underrated gem!
no the best movie of all time .
Is that all seen it about 40 times .Read book about 4 times .and follow up bank.
I watched the 2017 version. It’s great and so emotional that I can’t bring myself to watch it again.
What an exceptional movie, this is not your typical epic adventure with flashy effect and action, but you will never forget this one.
Stop with that cliche “it doesn’t have flashy effects bla bla”
Do you not realize the scope of movies “flashy effects “ free THAT are out there?
Lol, MANY UNFORGETTABLE MOVIES!…….that didn’t require CGI
Terrific film with McQueen giving one of his best performances. Hoffman is also outstanding.
Steve McQueen should have gotten an Academy Award for his role in Papillon
Definitely Oscar worthy performance.
Watched it again after 25 years. Still one of my favorite movies ever. Steve was outstanding
I remember my dad renting this to show me when I was like 10 years old.
I complained because of how old it looked.
I’m happy he made me watch it. It’s one of my all time favourites.
Classic!
One of the best movies which I have seen in my life. All characters were fit in their roles. Steve McQueen was marvelous in all respects.
I watched it with my best mate in around '76 when it came out. I loved it. Perfectly cast.
Steve McQueen’s most underrated movie, the Academy really blew it that year when he wasn’t nominated for Best Actor
steve was not nominated because he refushed to get a peoples choice award and the academy snubbed him
@@davidtignor6698 And nominated Robert Redford for the Sting!
If You haven't seen this film , you should , one of McQueens best dramas
This is one of those movies that when u see it on ur guide you automatically tune in & ur eyes are glued to the tv. Can someone recommend another great classic movie produced in the 70's as great as this 1
Sorcerer, William Friedkin, 1977. Not as large as Papillon, or quite as good, but close.
Who came after seeing the trailer of Papillon (2018) :D ?
I just saw the 2018 movie
i Just saw the movie lol
Just saw the movie
Just now saw it.
Just saw the movie
McQueen's performance when he is in the isolation unit is absolutely riveting!
It feels like we as viewers are in there with him. Haunting portrait.
The real story of NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER SAY DIE EVEN IN A SMALL CHANCES OF WINNING!!
If life hits your really hard, dont give up!!
Hats off to yoy papillon if you are still alive on this days of new age!
One of my all-time favourite movies. Brilliant.
I've seen this movie like 30 years ago as a kid and yet, some scenes I recall, forever engraved in my memory
Happy 78th birthday to Dustin Hoffman today! RIP Steve McQueen
Great movie. I'm still here, you bastards! I'm still here.
Sercan Taşar great pictures 👍 did you know that Clint Eastwood sings to trees?
jutubaeh type perfect English to me or go away
***** I haven't seen it in years. Please refresh my memory, or, is whole movie at UA-cam for free?
***** I have a DVD player. I get dizzy & nauseous when McQueen is freaking out & screen spins around
***** who? Last thing I remember is McQueen floating off into the ocean & Hoffman tending to his garden
Read the book in 6th grade, had a butterfly tattooed on my chest at 16 and its there still at 55. The end till chokes me. EPIC
the best book ever wroted!!!!
I loved the book and also got a tattoo of a butterfly on my knee
Read the book. I have read the book during my prison time. It helped me a lot to breach the wall and travel with the protagonist on his adventures every evening before going to sleep. Awesome book.
Crazy to think that this Movie is nearly 50 years old 😮🤯
This looks amazing. Back in the day when films looked real because they were real. Pity the camera quality wasn't so good back then.
It was much better than today, believe me!
When I watched this film last night, I thought the camera and film quality were good as it went with the film more. It made it look more dirty and gritty. If it was crystal clear it would look more fake. This is just my opinion.
This movie was Great when it came out , 50 Years later it's still Dynamite .
Papillon . My favourite film of all time . 2 years in that unimaginable merciless inhuman regime .
the book is so good. best book i've read in a long time, top 10 of all time i reckon.
great movie love the mental breakdown of these two troughout the years and escapes
I'm still mad about that nun that betrayed him 😤
Yeah...and I was raised Catholic! Freaking b..th. None of my old nuns would do that. Alas, the creepy nun was a great character.
Nuns are creepy so I've head
Glad to see my fandom 💙💚
This one is so much better than the 2018 version.
Saw thins in a theater when it first came out. I was 16. Hell of a film.
One of the greatest prison movies ever made!
Incredible movie! Unforgettable!!
one of the best films i've ever seen
Larry is so obvious that it hurts💙💚
I watched the new version in 2021 at Netflix and i loved this movie.
I want now to watch this old version.
Just watched the remake cuz I love Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek, then remember I watched the original 40 years ago... Tears
The 2017 remake isn't even close to this masterpiece.
i actully like the remake more!!! just an opinion
releena d yes
Z E R O © of course not. remakes suck. always
@@releenad me also.
The remake is good.
This is way better than the remake. Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman make this movie incredible 👍
Masterpiece.
I've been looking for this movie for ages! Now I found it through another movie with Steve McQueen
No chickens were hurt making this movie !!!
1:12
what a movie !!!
I watched this film late last night on free TV. It was great! Although I saw it before long ago, there seemed to be a lot more to it than what I remember with a lot more facets. For one thing, I did not remember Papillon living with the native tribe for a while. Also, it was strange how they just suddenly seemed to have disappeared with no explanation. It would have been nice if he just stayed with the tribe .
En estos momentos de crisis por el coronavirus, ver está película,lo mejor
3:04 - It's the best moment. I love it ❤
Amo esse filme.
I love this film.
I read recently that Roger Ebert gave this movie only a two star rating saying the characters were not developed enough. I have no idea what movie he was watching because you rarely see such intense characters in movies today or such storytelling. McQueen is absolutely perfect in this movie and he probably lost part of his sole playing that character. Hoffman is stunning as well. I can only imagine what was left in the cutting room floor.
Nutty review as "PAPILLION" is a master piece of cinematic art with legendary Steve McQueens best performance ever on film in my opinion.
fuck Ebert he was overrated, this movie is a masterpiece!
Masterpiece "PAPILLON" indeed !
He revised many old reviews like The Good The Bad The Ugly.
Prospero Cobbler I hope McQueen only lost part of his soul rather than part of his sole. The latter is probably more painful than the former.
Steve ..Dustin....Masters
It was 1973 I've seen it full trailer papillon the movie all I can say no one can be so great this wonderful movie ever👍❤️
I've seen it SOOOO many times. Nevertheless the REMAKE makes me want to see it.. again. Such a great movie
Never saw the remake. I don't know how ya can top the original. And no Steve or Dustin...
@@jeffryhammel3035 watch it. You'll see. It's better than the original.
@@dianabalan I will, D.B. And thanks. I've never considered any work of art to be sacred, and am glad to see great movies and music done once again.
My father's favourite movie
Being trapped on same film set with whiney Hoffman for months on end was
probably worst punishment of all. A miracle Steve survived.
One of the best films ever made...;)
one of my favorite movies, true classic.
check out the new one, I think you'll enjoy
Search for midnight express not similar but still a good movie about an American who is imprisoned in a turkish prison in the 70's. He is catch trying to smuggle out drugs.
Ótimo filme! Assisti o primeiro e o demais que saiu agora em 2019....
Excelente película, inmortalizada, lo que un hombre puede hacer por lo más preciado... SU LIBERTAD!!

An excellent movie by excellent actors. This was released the same year Steve's Pal and self defense mentor Bruce Lee died.

Unpopular opinion, but I hate this movie, only because I love the book. It misses the heart and focus of the book. I’d like it for what it is if it didn’t claim to be Papillon.
Hear me out:
First of all, Papillon is a charismatic, calculating genius, not just a cool dude with balls. In the movie he just seems to fly by the seat of his pants without much thought. McQueen’s a great actor but he just slightly reworked his cool hand luke schtick imo.
Second of all Papillon’s always looking out for everyone around him even when it doesn’t seem to suit him, which earns him the respect and influence of just about EVERYONE around him, not just one or two friends. The movie fails to express his living legend status among the convicts and even warders.
And third, the book’s focus was primarily on the extreme kindness and generosity he receives from strangers along his journey despite the suffering, because of his unshakeable will to live. It’s much more of an adventure story then the movie made it. The movie made it a Christ-Like story, which is always a safe bet, but that’s not what it is.
It’s a disgrace the way the movie drags on when it had so much material to work with, they made it all about Papillon’s suffering which was never really an issue to him in the book. He was not a wallowing martyr as the movie would have it, but a strong, clever, charismatic leader that no one ever got the best of.
Also it’s a bit of a gripe but papillon was 25 when he was arrested and 35 by the time he was completely free, McQueen being a 43yr old that looks 55 really changes the tone of his experience if you ask me.
My friend read the Dry Guillotine and Hell on Trial by Rene Belbenoit made in 1939 is about French Guyana, there is a lot of stories copied from these books to Papillon. Henry Charriere was a great story teller. The book is great"
I read the book in my 20s and loved it. I also love the film. You've got McQueen, Hoffman, Trumbo and Franklin J. Schaffner. A lot to like. Not the book and yes, the pacing doesn't quite work. But brilliant in its own way.
James i want to read the book. Thanks
Cool hand luke was Paul Newman, not Steve McQueen.
The book was 80% stories stolen from others, this has been proven. Henri Charriere was a convicted scam artist and thief, so it makes sense.
that's a great review, thanks)
haven't read the book yet
but yes, 2 things:
- you've confused Steve Mcqueen with Paul Newman
though, I believe, this is all sorta - as you said -
Christ-like scenario (shout-out to Borhes!)
- I liked the movie -
except for the sort of short-paced part at the end before the great escape
though, I feel like movies - to me -
become a bit stagnant to watch in this part of the script fairly often, so..
My favorite film ever
Excelente Pelicula con un ELENCO DE LUJO. Ojala la den en la TV. Abierta, desde Chile.
Good film watched this loads of times
excelente película, un clasicoooo!!
I mean, harry, are you serious? "freedom" is what he always says he wants and his tattoo is a 'papillon'
And the protagonists are Henry and Louis.
Omg they're so extra
I'm Ale btw AND HE SAID IN HIS INTERVIEW WITH ANOTHER MAN MAGAZINE THAT HIS BUTTERFLY TATTOO IS INSPIRED BY THIS MOVIE *cries in larry*
1:14 did he really just fall on the chicken? 😂
I like this movie ... great film...
A really amazing film.
Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape," and "Papillon." Maybe he can tell us how to escape this coronavirus! Papillon was the first movie I ever recall seeing at a theatre.
🙊🙊🙊
It looks great, I want to see it. Thank you for the video.
Such à great movie!!
Lovely film about a hardship
Nice movie
Steve killed it in this movie.
INSANE!!!!!
The best movies
only old people will say the original is good than the remake
papillon steve mc queen un chef d'oeuvre du cinema americain.
Happy on..!🍢
Fantastici attori......bravissimi
I’ve joked that this is the movie that made my cousin first fall in love with Dustin Hoffman 😂
This looks brilliant. I am watching the trailer because it was referenced on the Sick and Wrong Podcast, Episode 596, but now I surely need to watch this film.
The film makes you live the painful experience
The beginning to the end, and all that he suffered for his love of freedom!
A beautiful and painful story at the same time
He did give many lessons! Love of freedom, fulfillment and commitment to promises, thinking and clinging to hope no matter how impossible !.
I suggest you go google Henri Charriere, he didn't actually live through what you see on screen. I read his book when it was first published also the follow up Banco. I was seriously impressed, just like every other reader. There has been a big hoo ha about the lies he told. Like me, you have been conned. Apart from that, your comment was actually embarrassing drivel.
I'm reading this book
How was it
Came here after “ The Reason “
I LIKE TO WATCH PAPILLON.
