- The unbelievable untold story of the Glaswegian teenage tribute band who went from complete unknowns to standing at the epicenter of the British rock & roll scene & working alongside Oasis in under a year.

The absurdism of No Way Sis' story is insane; which once again says a lot about how idolised Oasis was. The best part is that they ended on a high note. It would be really nice if you could interview these lads someday, James
Even more bizarre was Noels approval???
Nah, no interview, no one would understand a word they say with that accent
For a tribute band these lads from Scotland did amazing. Tribute bands are normally popular because the original band are all dead or split up. But they did it along side Oasis. And they did it really well. Well done lads, you seized the moment and made something happen for yourselves.
James, I’m 13 and today I sat down to learn live forever on my acoustic guitar. I love your videos, and I think you saw me reply to your tweet earlier, I just want to say thanks
Cmon you know
Keep playing matey! :)
Mad fer it 🎸
Respect to you mate, instead of telling you what to do (“never put the guitar down” and all that patter) ill wish you luck in general life
Live forever wee man
Keep at it pal you won't regret it
This is one of the most insane Oasis stories I’ve heard and it’s brilliant. Makes me love Oasis even more. ‘We’re so good our tribute band are all stars..’ amazing.
Oasis were a band for people who don’t usually like bands.
I was at the T in the Park gig 96 and remember the rumour that Noel was going to perform with them. Rammed and mental is right. I think thats why we went to see them cos of the rumour. It was magic. I enjoyed it more than the actual Oasis Loch Lomond gig later that summer. Great year to be 16. Saw everyone over those few years
Fascinating James, a big THANK YOU from California! Great work...
My pleasure!
It's a great story, and I saw them at Leeds University student union in 1996, but Noel and Liam's older brother Paul, who was working in the music industry, said that he didn't agree that a tribute band should be getting more money and being higher up the bill than bands doing original material
Must have been bittersweet for him, probably wanted to be in the band.
No doubt about it. This channel and you are the most Dedicated Oasis fan of all time in the entire world. I think you should make a book.
Glad you used the Shaun Ryder NoOasis TOTP intro. The other intro features a certain Mr. Glitter.
Fascinating hear about how big a tribute band can be and remember seeing their posters around Dublin. Was it their choice to have such a punishing tour schedule? Like why couldn't they just scale it back to only playing the big Fri/Sat night gigs?
make hay while the sun shines, i spose. 10k a gig? it’s not like success like that was going to be long lived
It feels almost as if your going back in time with these amazing stories about great bands and tribute bands in the 90s. Such a magical time it was, your channel is superb mate.
Saw them at The Arena in Middlesbrough mid 90s. It was mental.
Gerry was good mates with guitarist in my old band he came up onstage with us one night with Noel’s guitar and we played Columba. Great guy Gerry
What an AMAZING and VERY FUNNY story... (I did a 'The Eagles' Tribute band for years and later a 'The Ramones' tribute band... Fans of THOSE ACTUAL BANDS would often come up after the shows and talk to us LIKE WE WERE the actual acts!!!! Asking REALLY specific questions. Often THEY knew more about the acts than WE did!!) It was always very good natured and fun, though... (I 'played' Joey Ramone in 'Los Ramones'... Joey Ramone was 6' 4" tall in boots. I'm 5' 8" tall!!!!) Tribute bands OFTEN take more work to GET RIGHT than doing original material. (Because THE FANS of the original outfits take no prisoners if you get it wrong...) It's a lot of work! (Once, when doing 'The Eagles' we ended up in a Dublin VIP nightclub where THE REAL EAGLES were there... They invited us to join them and bought us drinks... Though THEY weren't drinking of course... They were SO NICE and thought it HYSTERICALLY FUNNY that we were 'THEIR' tribute act... They couldn't have been friendlier...) xx SF
I was recently in Manchester and was disappointed to see there's very little museum/exhibitions dedicated to the history of Oasis and britpop, etc. They should hire you to organize a museum there.
I was at that ministry gig in Aberdeen. Absolutely mental! The venue is on two floors with No Way Sis on the top level. The bouncing was so mental that it looked like the top floor would cave in.
They came back and played at a bigger venue and they were crapping themselves!
Incredible story! Your channel never fails to amaze and provides such quality insight into Oasis history!
Man I NEED to hear No Way Sis's Portugal gig. 100,00 fans? Performing Be Here Now tracks before they were released? Insane. Any chance the No Way Sis lads or superfans have it?
Steve what bar are no way sis ?
As a glaswegian who lived the 90s I got a heavy nostalgia there, another better of a vid James.
Glad I found your channel. Your a hell of story teller. Cheers from the States!
Another amazing video and story. Great channel. The 90s were so incredible to experience.
This story needs to be made into a film.
Such a brilliant story and documentary!! Thanks so much for sharing James 😁🎸🎉
Brilliant documentary mate, excellent piece of history. When I was a young lad there was a record store in my hometown of Ayr, and the bloke who owned it would occasionally get rare Oasis stuff in keep it aside for me, and I managed to pick up a copy of the No Way Sis single but I'd never looked into their actual story. Enjoyed that. Great Success story.
I love it James. Thank you very much for another nice n good lesson! Best!
I was at one of their first gigs in Nice'N'Sleazy. What a wonderful time to be young.
Another great video James! Well done!
Always excited for these kinds of videos from you
Love this, mate! I was right in the thick of this and remember No Way Sis well. But I had no idea about their whole story, so this was absolutely amazing to watch!
Love how much work you put into these vids. Very interesting
Videos like this are what makes James
a BritPop legend. Thanks mate - great story
James you should do a video with an oasis v no way sis side by side comparison. Get clips of both bands playing certain parts of the same songs as a fun comparison
I'm a massive oasis fan, have been from the start. Your videos are incredible mate. They should be on telly.
Amazing story, explained beautifully. Great video.
Another great video James Hargreaves!
Great episode, sir! I salute you.
Hi James, great video, I remember No way sis having a very interesting journey but so did U2s own Lookalike tribute band "The Doppelgangers" a few years before as they were formed by U2 & Kevin Godley in 1992 (and given their name Doppelgangers by Bono) for their award winning music video "Even Better Than The Real Thing", U2 subsequently used them for other projects, they stood in for U2 on tv & radio shows and for various promo appearances and concert video launches they were even loaned U2's actual Zootv stage clothes and instruments for a global tv show appearing with U2 performing U2s next single "Whos gonna ride your wild horses" whilst U2 sat in the audience watching.
Notably the Doppelgangers went on play live on MTV featured in big articles in Q magazine and others and U2s own offical fanclub magazine ran a four page article naming the Doppelgangers U2s Official looklike band. Paul McGuinness U2s manager gave his permission and U2s blessing for the Doppelgangers to go out on tour which starting a new trend in the tribute band scene to be the first Lookalike tribute band to go out on tour in 1993 as a current existing band something no one else was doing as it was generally thought by many as pointless exercise back then as all the other tribute bands around at that time were of bands that no longer existed.
The Doppelgangers even feature on DVDs within various boxset versions of the U2 album Achtung Baby. They finished touring live in 1998 after playing to large audiences since 1993 at festivals (supporting such bands as the "Stranglers" & Pop Will Eat Itself etc") universities etc around in the UK and Europe even playing Dubai and just like No Way sis, by 1998 they found too many other U2 tribute bands starting to appear.
What an amazing story! Well told, and an excellent watch. 👏
As always, excellent work!
Why there‘s no live footage of them on youtube apart from ‚i‘d like to teach..‘ hoped i could watch some of their cover versions
Another excellent video James. I remember all about No Way Sis as I'm Scottish and the bond the had with Oasis must have meant the world to them. We all know Oasis loved the Bootleg Beatles.
Absolutely snorted my tea all over my keyboard at ‘Alan Shite’.
Loving this so far
I never knew the lore was this deep! As is often the case with your channel James and I thought I knew me stuff! Brilliant.
You should do a doc on The Rutles, Neil Innes was a genius
I remember the times you describe so well.
Another brilliant vid James 😂👏🏻
I do really enjoy your videos thanks James Hargreaves
I saw Oasis at the Norwich art centre in the spring of 94, the attendance was sparce but I am informed that Darkness singer Justin Hawkin was present.
Fockin great story! Same goes down 👇for the story teller! 😉 ✌️ Cheers mate!
They played Aberdeen's Music Hall supported by Aberdeen band Second Motion, I was there and still have the ticket stub. 14th October 1996
YEEAAAH Great story James
Speaking of the Definitely Maybe Epiphone EJ200, would LOVE to know where that is now….
Excellent tribute band
Great work on this James. Be great if you can get hold of the Hi Ho Silver Lining cover. Be a cross between Round Are Way I reckon
I was at that sold out Barrowlands show, great night. I never did get a chance to see the real deal but this was close enough.
You need to do a follow up where are they now and get them on a vid for an interview!
I'm a big Fan of Oasis
Ive never heard of this whole story. This is so crazy, almost unbelievable. Great video like always
I'm not a big Oasis fan, but this was really interesting. I had no idea about Nowaysis. I was living in Toronto, Canada at the time that Oasis got really big. Actually, I saw them play their first gig in Canada. I think it was at Lee's Palace, a relatively small venue. The place was packed like I'd never seen it before. Everyone was talking about how they were going to be the next huge rock band, so you had to be there. They were good. I remember someone in the crowd shouted out "Vapour Trail!" as a joke. Everyone laughed. Anyway, cover bands sometimes end up turning into famous bands. It's pretty cool Nowaysis got as big as they did.
Story time + Oasis = my favorite things lol
Superb content
I've never heard about them (I'm from Brazil), it's really a great story
I was a teenager myself in the 90s too. Id kind of forgetten how insanely huge Oasis were back then. It was beyond mental. So mental that even tribute bands were huge it seems 😂 Id no idea about these guys. What a crazy story.
Your a legend Mate
Can we have a deep dive into Mike Flowers Pops with his Wonderwall cover? 😂
I said maybe… 🎶
I saw No way sis back in the day, they were spot on!
Brilliant
Great❤
I still love doing Oasis covers!
I remember No Way Sis. It was the best of times.
0:36 Looks like the matey from Supergrass (Gaz Coombes?) and Richard Ashcroft.
Another interesting footnote in the Oasis story.
You are the absolute peak of Oasis content creators man. Excellent work!
Are you planning on covering Tailgunner? I have some stuff. I think..
I know No Way Sis manager from Glasgow, and said to me he has Noels Les Paul guitar in a safety deposit box in Glasgow.
How do you not run out of Oasis ideas?
But who is Bill McKie. Brilliant video James. My mate was at cottage Seahorses stayed at when writing album you featured. £1600 for 7 days sleeps 12
350,000 people that's a bigger crowd than Knebworth
I've still got the CD single. Lol at the time you felt you had to cos it was THE oasis tribute band, officially endorsed and all. Ah, the 90's, twas most definitely a different time/scene/culture........ I do feel old now though when Be Here Now is on 25th Anni re-release
04:26 I was born on that exact date, that's mental!
I seen Nowaysis at the Barrowlands Glasgow in 1996. They were actually half decent.
@GGJ Martin Hearts aren’t dead mate. Dafty.
Nice video James, are you familiar with DMA’s? Certainly not an oasis cover act but they are one of Australia’s top exports of the past decade. Their early albums clearly take inspiration from Oasis and The Verve. Keen to hear what you think of them if you get a chance. They’re a great act in their own right.
They should have named themselves Leon and Mail
The Beatles also had multiple doubles. They were known as the FAB FORTY.
I wonder why they never tried to do anything on their own. I guess they realized that they would never reach those heights again, and didn't want to spend the rest of their lives trying.
I was at the T in the park gig July 1994...not my first time seeing them though..that was Easter Monday 1992 at Middleton Hippodrome supporting hooky's Revenge
What were they like
@@Tito-en5nv very very good in 1994...saw them Preston too about 6 weeks prior...just sounded ok in 1992 but Liam looked great..they rehearsed under the boardwalk venue so used to see them there too if I was playing myself
@@stuartcarswell2815 cool.
The Nowaysis story is the 1990s equivalent of 1966 Paul Is Dead.
Both invented stories, but with a surprising truth behind them.
Who are KOASIS? I've watched a couple of videos of them playing Supersonic and Wonderwall, and they're good. It doesn't look like they've gigged recently, and they've possibly changed their name.
I remember seeing a couple of guys impersonating Noel and Liam on MTV Europe called Nowaysis/Noasis?? in 1996. Were they the same guys? They did a song called 'And after all we're not John and Paul' to the tune of Wonderwall.
What do you think
@@Tito-en5nv The name is there and everything and probably the actual clips were used in the vid ! 😂 I think he's cracked the mystery.. Lol
@@damotheman4196 but we’re they the same guys?
@@Tito-en5nv Noasis/No way sis are 2 separate bands. Not sure bout the rest man.
@@damotheman4196 I know mate just kidding
I think you should do an “ alternative time line “ video
What if Noel had sung wandawall and Liam don’t look back in anger…
What if bone head was a KJB spy
What if Sally was aunt Sally from Worzel Gummidge
What if Tony was never kicked out of the band
@@pallinder7646 what if he call play the drums….
What if Liam and Noel had always been more equal as brothers, both equally loved by their dad?
i wonder what part of the masterplan No Way Sis was/is
Remember Liam already told us "the masterplan is the masterplan, we're all part of the masterplan" 😂
@@timm.e.n. Said by a man who wasn’t part of The Masterplan
I like the verve better than oasis but since James is such a big fan of oasis I've enjoyed hearing about them.
Well we could use them now, bout as close as you're gonna get to the real thing innit. Still holding my breath for the REAL Oasis reunion.
I was in the first oasis tribute band
The Gallaghers fi Methil fife
Saw them at Leeds 97 got booed to fook. I enjoyed them
If you play basketball do you scream oasis every time you shoot?
Liam O Loan 😂😅😅 love it
Saw them in 97 and met them after a show at Southampton Uni. Good lads! Their Swamp Song ripoff (The Quicksand Song) is much, much better than the song it's blagging.
Where they playing "Be Here Now" tracks?
Oasis? Never heard of them. Nowaysis were a top group though!
they were great at T in the park! don't remember police or barricades though!!!
Why did he go out with Meg.?
