I would say that the tool specification of 1200in-lbs is accurate and depending upon the application your results will vary. Test rig is a 9/16-18 in. wheel stud vs the vehicle wheel stud of M12-1.50 so the threads have a different pitch and slightly different count. The fastener size is different 22mm vs 19mm. All these factors plays into how the impact torque is transferred and received. Additionally, the surface on the test rig is steel to steel compared to steel to aluminum on the vehicle rim.
how match
Is it brushless
I understand now... So steel to steel would be easier to take off because the metal is of the same density and slips easier, and steel to aluminum makes it harder because the aluminum " molds" around the steel and it's softer Wich makes it harder to let go... I guess

I am impressed with that giant digital torque wrench!
I was thinking the same thing
It looks very flashy !
It's a gearwrench
Lol you think that's a giant torque wrench? That's a little baby.
I’m not. It was wrong every single time. 170 was 173, 175 was 176, 180 was 182.6, so forth and so on. I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t stopping on the number he said
I bought that same tool about 2 months ago. My first impression of it was that it was a little bit weak the first couple of times I used it. But it got stronger the third fourth fifth times I've used it and since that thing is just as good as my Ridgid impact driver and it's my go-to because it's smaller and easier to hold
I love reading the comments on here I love the fact the hercules did it I'd definitely get this over anything else what a beast
That thing ain’t no joke!! I was super surprised by the power especially since it’s a 12v. Thanks for sharing! And I really like that gearwrench torque ratchet
I reckon it would get you out of a pinch. Thanks Again Chris! Keep them coming.
I was such a Milwaukee fanboy due to the price point and warranty (vs snap on.) but since Hercules now offers a 5 year warranty I’m SOLD! I’m not a professional tech by any means but I do use my tools every day and at this price point, it can’t be beat! Thanks HF! 🙏🏽
Just got this beasty today I`m impressed
I picked one of these up a few weeks ago, I was blown away by the crusty nuts it was able to remove when I went to do a steering upgrade on my Jeep.
Well it is a jeep
Any experienced mechanic can take that thing apart with a 6 in 1 screwdriver and some Chanel locks.....
In about 3 minutes
How’s it holding up now? Been thinking on getting me one
I bought the 1/4” impact on a whim one night thinking it would be tame enough to install bolts without tearing anything up. I was so impressed with it, I picked up the 3/8 gun a day later. I use them both all the time for plant maintenance and couldn’t be happier. Battery life is unreal so far, better that the M12 line .
Yeah, I’m thinking about getting the 1/4 Drive but it doesn’t come with the battery and charger
@@terrellscaife2411 No it doesn’t. I didn’t mind since I bought both sizes and a drill in 12v. The drill isn’t as nice as the 20v but for the money it’s not bad.
It’s actually incredible how long even the 2mah batteries last
@@BrickSquad69 agreed, they aren’t the most powerful but they do seem to take a beating
That's a powerful little tool! Need to get one its small and compact.
I reluctantly bought one today. In preparation for a valve cover change. I don't want to use a hand tool for taking off alll these bolts - I got things to do man. Pleasantly suprised! Good for a shadetree mechanic like myself. I wouldn't roll with this as a daily if being a mechanic was my trade.
Impressive! The price alone is impressive too!
You should really do a review on that torque wrench because no one has yet and I’m digging it!
I got a 1/4 impact wrench. Watched this an hour later on the same day, and immediately went back to return it and get this one. Same price, more torque than a 20v impact driver.
It’s honestly does great for the price!
Great video review. I'm heading to Harbor Freight this weekend I want one. 👍👍
I watched the whole video and I’m really impressed by the power it has.Now I need to buy one.I bought a welding machine because of you and it is great.you really put it to the test.👍
Which welder did you get? I have the Titanium 125 and what I do weld it had held strong.
ClientGraphics yes that’s the one I bought after watching your review on it.It has helped me a lot with my builds.I thought I was the one that couldn’t wield but I was just using the Wong cheap Chicago brand.Your channel Rocks.you make me spend money every time 😂.Now I need to buy that impact drill.
Sam’s Garage 1:40 that was a lug nut at 100ft lbs!!! It’s trash what if a shop put them on
It almost took ten seconds lmao that things trash
Who else was worried he was gonna take all the lug nuts off with the car unsupported
i was like fuck noooooo
I have the earthquake xt 3/8 drive impact from Harbor freight. Been using it at work for 2 years now. Works like new. haven't bought any of the Hercules stuff yet.
Are those brushed? Not implying they're bad if so, just an easy maintenance item to check from time to time. Just can't remember if they're brushed or brushless.
Thank for the good review...demo.
Hope all is okay. I really do miss your videos but I'll keep re-watching the old ones
Very good video. I still use my Chicago Electric Impact driver. I ordered from Harbor Freight when stationed in the Philippines 1989-92. Used mostly on my Harley Davidson there. Still use it here.
I am invested in Milwaukee with tools and batteries. Don't need to switch, but this is impressive.
I have the same torque wrench and love it. The 3/8 version is on my wishlist.
I need my Stanley and GearWrench 3/8” clickers to stop working then the newer digital is on my list also😄
I love the 1/4 inch wrench, perfect for clamps and aluminum work. The most underrated tool at HF>
I got mine on clearance for 18$ had to buy the battery/charger but it was so worth it.
I just purchase my self the 3/8 impact with battery and charger from harbor freight today.i usually go for craftsman but figure I'd try the hercules brand since I'm on a budget for now.
Just bought a ⅜ Hercules today...bought the battery and charger too to get an extra 25.00 off. I've wanted one of these small ones for awhile. Went to Home Depot first and the Makita Ryobi Milwaukee were all about 300.00 out the door with the battery and charger...The Hercules was 80.00 with the battery and charger....sure the others had a better warranty but they were almost 4 times the price...Glad I got the Hercules and so is my wallet.
I compared it to my ct761 and it didn’t come close but for the price it’s decent
Super Video! Well worth watching til the end. Great job! Hercules needs a 20V line. Like your GearWrench Torque Wrench. Have A Great Day.
Seems good for a DIY home use.
Yep, I got the impact driver and it is great. I am a maintenance guy that mostly does refrigeration work and I haven't tried this tool at work yet but I think it is every bit as good as my ryobi impact that I use there.
Next time I am at Harbor Freight, will look into buying the kit.Seeing it perform well impressed me
The Hercules 12v line is limited to only 4 tools. I went into it assuming I’m only ever going to get this one tool and maybe a second battery at some point.
Looking to buy it for getting into spots where my M18 fuel 3/8 impact won't fit in.My dad bought the one from Oreillys, not worth the money at all
Looking forward for that Icon screwdrivers!
Good video thanks
I bought the 20v impact driver when it just came out, I'm just disappointed that there hasn't really been that many accessories made for Hercules as it was made for bauer, I kinda regret not getting the bauer
Hopefully what you do have from the Hercules line worked well? Harbor Freight keeps saying they are going to expand it but time will continue to tell when it all goes brushless
Might be decent for small engine and equipment with an upgraded battery.
My main question is do you think that kit is a good starter kit for a at home rebuilder/ fixer upper at the age of 16 for price and performance
Perfect condition
I’m going to buy 1 today .. i have lugs that are stuck on my truck… omg 😳 this tool i need it
I’ve been debating this or the baur. I have the Milwaukee m18 1/2 but I’d like something a tad smaller and these seem pretty chill for the price ? I think I’m going Hercules next in the 3/8
Just picked up one today.
The Snapon CT761 is a old BRUSHED model. They have a new Brushless model coming soon this year.
I would have bought it but I recently picked up a dewalt similar 12v tool kit only brushless 2 batteries, charger and bag for around $125 couldn't pass it up.
If it requires 130 ft lbs to remove fastener after tightening with the impact wrench, that means the impact can fasten to about 160 ft lbs. In general, losening torque required x 1.25 will give you fastening ability of the wrench.
And yet that isn't what he showed.
I did this last time I bought a new impact driver, I ran outside with a torque wrench and the impact and let the lugs on my project truck have it
I think I can relate to your comment.
Color me impressed. I'm curious if heat plays a role in the testing. was the test nut and bolt heating up/expanding that would have skewed the results?
Good job
The real question. Durability. How long is it going to last? How reliable are they? The warranty is only 90 days. I never had a Hercules power tool so I have no idea how tough or we’ll build they are. Has anyone had this impact driver for a couple of years? Do you see any difference in performance?
Hey ClientGX, Harbor Freight came out with new Hercules Cordless Ratchets, can u review them? want to see if theyre junk or not, thx
It struggled a lil bit on the lug nuts but for 10 bucks more I'll get the kobalt compact wit the 5 yr warranty instead of the 90 day HF one.
i like my deWalt dcf 889b has alot of impact
Cool video man what’s the name of the torque wrench your using thanks
please i love your video but what size socket do i need to buy? i bought the same Hercules Impact wrench 3/8 1200lb but i cant find a socket that fits the anvil on the power tool... im trying to use the impact wrench to rotate the tires on my vehicle
Amazing
Thank you, I am in need of the tool and knowledge to buy the right one
Damn! I have a 1/4 version with the same internals. Put a socket adapter on it and it has the same power
is this brushless? Impressive for sure . I wouldn't want to buy it if I can not use my 20V dril charger on this impacts battery. I am between this and M12
Great review! That’s an impressive little impact. 👍🏻👍🏻
Quite impressive!
Nothing left to say.
I like how compact it is
I’m really looking for an excuse to get into a 12v line and for some reason find myself really wanting to go Hercules… great video, may have solidified my decision. Even just looking at bare tool price the m12 line is so hard to justify.
Late comment but literally im in exactly the same boat. I have dewalt 20v and I need a 12v system and the hercules just seems better and cheaper. Especially with their cordless ratchet offering
Very good
How long do they last before something break & got to run to warranty.
If they make a bigger battery for that it would give even more power. Also after using it several times like that even tho it still shows 3 bars of battery the battery has lost some power therefore the last one you tried 192 ft/lb should be tried again with a completely full charge. Still very impressive for this
Bigger battery doesn’t equal more power. It just means that it will last longer
I think it's time for a 12v, 3/8 impact showdown.
I just got the matco 16v 3/8 brushless impact, torqued a wheel to 100 ft lbs and it took it off but it took about 4 seconds per nut, I'm not too disappointed because of the warranty for 2 years, all though that Hercules cost like 8 times less Loli could of bought 8 xD
The Matco INFINIUM 16v has a brushless motor and 250 ft. lbs. of breakaway torque and 150 ft. lbs. of working torque so this Hercules won’t be as powerful but it will definitely be cheaper for sure.
Yes that is what my booklet says also I actually have it with me because I was cleaning it, but I think it's not accurate, or probably those specs are for a 3/8 diameter nut, the nuts I torqued to a 100 ft lbs where 19 mm, and my impact barely took them off, oh and when I used my impact to put the wheel back in the car, I grabbed my torque wrench and set it to a 100 ft lbs just to see if the matco at least tightened them to that, but no my torque wrench moved about 45° before clicking on all the 5 nuts, I probably got a defective one..... U,u just like that #2 screw driver...
i tried it could not loosen the lug nut at 100 lbs
I have one and I use it daily. It's a great entery level tool but I wouldn't use it for a long time use.. I'm actually considering upgradeing
There just as god to use as the rest pay the rediculous price for the others most guys just wana fit in with the snapon crowd
@@fordnut4914 I agree with that it also comes down to the way you take care of your tools etc
I see a lot of comments about the 12v battery. HF does sell a 20v version which looks identical.
I take that back. That's only for the 1/4" driver.
The 12v line has 4 tools and uses the same charger as the Hercules 20v line. The batter however is not interchangeable meaning you can’t put the 20v on the 12v line or the other way around. It’s a very small lineup and it isn’t right for everyone.
The new icon 5pc dbl box flex ratchets just came like the mountain wrenches. Could we get a Torture test on those
I haven’t seen them in my store or online yet. Still no ratcheting flex head wrenches yet and the impact swivel sockets just showed up online.
@@ClientGraphics oh shoot I seen the box and flex wrenches in my store but no swivels
This is the only Hercules tool so far that has made envious since I went with the Bauer line. Would love to see a comparison of the Bauer 3/8 impact wrench. Curious about the gap in performance.
What about Newton Metres? lol... BTW... Nice torque wrench!
I wish Harbor Freight mailed to us at U.S. military bases overseas. Cheers from the UK!
Uk has the cheapest and best tools soldier
Did the tool get hot with all that work??
Interesting video but the reason the Hercules was faster at removing the bolt on the bench is because its a no load test were the test on the lug nuts took longer because the stud was under load by the rim and the lug nut was wedged between rim and spindle which is actual lug nut load on the stud threads
Lots of variables at play and definitely started with the real world application of lug nuts first👍
Why I jack up the vehicle first before removing lug nuts as well. Lol.
My 20v took off a bronco lug nut you should’ve just went with that one bro
Compare it to the 12v Milwaukee stubby impact
Waoooo nice job
Nice but good lord I want that torque wrench.
I need to actually review it at some point it’s the GEARWRENCH 85196, 1/2IN 120XP FLEX HEAD ELECTRONIC TORQUE WRENCH WITH ANGLE 25 - 250 FT/LB
i love watching your vids but i also love my milwaukee 3/8 stubby. For the price:torque yeah i say it would beat it. But for the type of tool it is, the milwaukee 3/8 stubby, the power, the warranty and the m12 line it would definitely be far better choice over the hercules. I would love to see a video comparison between all 3. rigid, hercules and the milwaukee stubby.
I love my stubby Milwaukee impacts. I have the 3/8, 1/4, and 1/4 impact driver. For my 1/2" impact i have the big boy 2767 m18.
I have the new Ridgid subcompact 3/8 impact on back order but I’ll get a little compare on when it comes in.
By the way! I saw your ICON screw drivers on the back of the video, did your Phillips#2 nicked from the edges? Mine did after using it the first time :(
There is some wear that looks like the matte gray finish is coming off on my #2x4” but physically it’s fine with no deformation.
I see, probably the type of screw I took off was made of diamond alloy.... Ok no.... Lol, well it's there only one of mine that got those marks probably a defective one because the rest are just fine.
The funny thing is, it's only a 3/8 drive and putting that much torg awesome
That HF impact is good, it will do the job if your not in a hurry in is capacity. I like your torque wrench can you let me know the model number? thanks for the video :)
Gearwrench 1/2 120xp torque wrench 85196
What torque wrench is that?
Hows the durability ?
Would you recommend this over the Dewalt Xtreme?
The 12v xtreme is on sale for 99.00. Right now. Comes with a charger and 2 amp batteries.
I’ve personally have been able to break 200 ft-lb on a 19 mm lug nut without any issues (broke it roughly 5 seconds). But it did struggle to remove a 24 mm lug nut torqued down to 140 ft lb when used with 3/8 to 1/2 adapter. (Broke it loose in 20 seconds.). I did not go higher than 200 lb because I don’t want to replace a wheel stud! :p
If you can get two batteries with the dewalt 12v xtreme and can get it on sale at $99 compared to this at $85 with one battery the Hercules comes with a 90 day warranty where the Dewalt would have 3yr limited and 1yr service. I'd go with the Dewalt because of the extra battery and warranty
Where did you see this? I would love to get it.
Samuel G
Lowes and Acme Tools periodically puts these on sale for 99.00 instead of the regular 149.00. The website lists it as 149.00 but as of 2 days ago it was 99.00 at the actual store. I guess gotta wait for the next one!
@@vendetta989 they sell them at harbor freight
Present!
Will this drive a 3/8” self tapping screw into a Jeep frame? Hole is already drilled.
Sub frame is around 1/8 in thick hole is drilled and screw is self tapping it should hopefully zip it right down. I haven’t personally tried but it can do a 5” lag bolts through a 4x4 if that helps!
Dude.. I can’t seem to lower my eyebrows in astonishment. I’m buying that this weekend
Martinez_93 it barely took the lug nug off at 100lbs in the beginning!!!!! Are you serious
You have totally convinced me that you get what you pay for
It's not the fastest impact driver, but for the price, it's great!
It’s definitely not lighting fast and it’s not really meant for lug nuts but it does work. Just needs a bigger lineup but as a single tool I can’t complain given the $25 off on the combo of buying all 3.
Will they last?
I BOUHT ALMOST ENERY THINGS IN THE STORE😱😱😱😱😱😱👍👍👍👍👍👊👊👊👊👊
Can someone explain why it's more difficult to take out the lug nuts from a wheel but much easier on the bench?
The way steel wheels are made, when lug nuts are tightened, the concave surface of the wheel tighten around them.
My theory is that the wheels were aluminum, which would 'grip' the nut tighter than steel would. Also, the aluminum would absorb more shock from the impact. The setup he has on the work bench is made of steel, and the way it is made the impact from the tool would have a much greater shock value. Another thing, the concave pockets on a wheel have a lot more surface contact on the nut versus the flat surface on his test jig.
Theres no load on the nut in the bench test. On the car, the wheel is pushing on the nut making it more difficult to spin off.
Good tool for tightening and loosening the bolts on my child's bike.😂
A real test would be a Honda 19mm harmonic balance bolt I will buy this impact if it can break that bolt loose that's with the special socket LOL
That’s is definitely a test. Sometimes it seems like almost nothing can get them back off, but we always find a way.
My boss bought a 3/4 impact from Cornwell just for that purpose... And still there are times that doesn't work .
Ugh, Honda crank pulley bolts are the worst. I've even had them defeat my DeWalt DCF899, and that's one powerful impact. Then again, jumping up and down on about 4 feet of cheater bar still didn't break it loose. I don't know what it is about them damn bolts, no other cars are ever that difficult to remove.
This is mostly for lug nuts....100 ft/lb isn't much at all.....
It's probably some Japanese martial arts secrete move to remove it with some sort of sacred scroll that is needed to get it lose with... One... Finger!!! XD sorry it's 2.49 am and woke up thirsty and hot
Can someone teach me what can I use a 1/2" mid-torque for? I have a high-torque Milwaukee 1/2" impact I keep just in case I have to put a spare tire on but I'm not really sure what to do with a smaller mid-torque.
Suspension bolts& nuts
@@96cr thanks 😂
@@k-dot4114 they hitorque is a beast but just won't fit in some places
@@96cr yeah I picked up their high torque when it came out but I find myself needing swivel sockets in some areas with bigger bolts. You’re absolutely right.
Is brushless more powerful?
At this point in the power tools game brushless tend to be more energy efficient and more powerful. Yes
You don’t pull a torque wrench up you push it down when ever you can!! Trust me. A bad back will find you.
Totally bad set up for review......second part is better... still got a thumbs down
Thanks for watching and commenting👍🏻👍🏻
This is brushless?????
