    AnthroTsuneon Sorry, because of an editing mistake the colors are indeed reversed. I'm planning on making a 2.0 version of this video since this is indeed a hard concept to grasp and having different wording and new methods couldn't hurt.
    Alright, if you are asking how to slow down at high speeds without gaining altitude, the best way I can describe it is that you lower collective completely, and then nose up to keep your altitude level. When moving at high speeds and nosing up you will gain altitude much like a plane. When you are lowering collective you will start to descend. To stop yourself from descending into the ground, you should not increase collective, but instead nose up just to the point of stopping yourself from descending. To keep a constant altitude you will need to nose up little by little as your speed decreases. If you raise your nose too much you will still gain altitude, If you don't raise it enough you will lose altitude. You want to find a balance between too much upward nose, and too little. This will give you a constant altitude while also slowing yourself down.
    A hard turn before a landing is done usually to drop as much speed as possible and is commonly used to counter situations where your speed is too high and about to overshoot a landing. The best way to improve this is just regular practice.
    If you are just asking for better advice on the staging, I will hopefully make a video soon focusing on this aspect alone. However my handbook has 2 different explanations on how to stage properly just for the reason of this being very, very hard to explain in 1 go.
    Hopefully this has helped you, and I highly suggest reading the handbook in the description since it has a lot of information relevant to this video.

    I throttle down and keep the noise up till I stop moving. I mark my landing and begin to slow down depending on the helicopter. Usually between 1km/1.5km depending on speed. So by the time I get to the AO/landing zone I can land right away where ever instead of bleeding speed high up(autopilot).

    for new guys having trouble, change your keybinds, the default is really awkward.
    I use this:
    w = increase thrust
    s = decrease thrust
    q = pedal left
    e = pedal right
    a = rudder left
    D = rudder right
    r = lift nose up (I have this so I can turn sharply while also sideways)
    mouse = all pedals and rudders for fine control
    hope this helps

    Do you think the pedals are absolutely necessary? How much of an advantage do you think they would give compared to just a joystick?

    • @kierenshepherd114
      @kierenshepherd114 6 років тому

      With only a joystick, you're missing an axis. Some cheaper joysticks have a rotational axis which you can map in place of pedals, but this twist is usually pretty clumsy, and you're placing all three directional axes on one hand. A higher quality joystick without the twist axis, in addition to a set of pedals, will make it easier to coordinate your movements.

      1. tilt sideways (70 degrees, 90 degrees) 2. Stop using the throttle if it's not needed 3. try to spot a landing place you'd want to land 4. get to the correct speed, altitude and have awareness of your surroundings before landing.

    • @PatchworkHD
      @PatchworkHD  9 років тому

      +ChestOfDoom Sorry for the late response. Sounds like you are having trouble controlling the oscillation of the helicopter when you transition into a hover. I would try and land with about 10km/h of forward airspeed. 10km/h is safe enough for touchdown, yet you will not enter a hover and have to worry about controlling the oscillations.

    • @ChestOfDoom
      @ChestOfDoom 9 років тому

      This is a problem since i either go fast the whole flight and take forever to lose speed at which point i veer. Or go at a slow speed so i can land easy then get shot down by a jet.

    i cant fly as good as you but since you have a x55 and i a x52 pro controller, can you tell me how i have to configure the controls? do i have to use analog control for the throttle to increase speed? but i heard it reduce the speed to 50% something like that, id really love to know but thanks for the tips ill try to fly with around 100 km/h and see if i can handle helicopter more easy.

    • @PatchworkHD
      @PatchworkHD  10 років тому +1

      The tip for binding throttle currently is to bind it to "Collective" (Non-Analogue) even though your controller is analogue. "Collective" Non-Analogue will accept analogue inputs just fine and it actually handles analogue input better. If you're flying with the advanced flight model on the devbranch then this does not apply and you should use "Collective [Analogue]".
      As for a decrease in maximum speed with analogue control over mouse and keyboard, I can confirm this is false.
      If your interested in seeing how I have my X-55 bound you can check it out here: i.imgur.com/RqUSoE3.png

      You slow down by lifting the nose of your heli up, but at the same time you'll gain altitude, so what you want to do is hold in Z or however your setups is configured, and tilt your nose at an angle where you are slowing down, but not gaining or losing altitude. Can't say I've ever given the angle much thought, you develop a feel for it for each different heli.

      dabom0282 Not at all. Use what works for you, whether that´s a keyboard and mouse, joystick or a 360 controller. Just use what works for you.

      +I'm JLW | Justin I do not use auto-hover except for when I'm in a holding position for an extended period of time and clear of any potential threats.

      Patchworkᴴᴰ Oh, ok, and one more question, how do you maintain you altitude to the same level while slowing down? I always end up going up and it taking more time.

    • @PatchworkHD
      @PatchworkHD  8 років тому

      I'm JLW | Justin Lower your collective before you attempt to bleed speed. My 5th Flight Quick Tip video goes into more detail on that.

    • @beng2500
      @beng2500 8 років тому +1

      A good way to slow down it to point your nose up and hold down allowing you aircraft to slow down and not gain altitude.

      when you say down you mean the lower altitiude key right?

      Tyr0n03 I haven't used either, if it were me though at that price range I'd either look into the T.Flight Hotas, or the Thrustmaster T-16000M.

      Among other things, yes. The wear from just flying like I do in the video would most likely bring it back code 2 or possibly even code 3.

    Well, you don't address anything really that isn't new. Approach stages is not rocket science, as for the tight landings, could have mentioned tips as to when to do exactly what, instead, we saw half the video a demo of how great you are at maneuvering in tight spaces.... Not really a tip besides that it was all common knowledge. I wish you would have addressed how to make Arma pilots that are already mediocre at flying, to do better, but this video does not at all do that.

    • @liamgibson4675

      Auto hover makes it easier for you to get shot down.. With a RPG for example

    • @Redicat
      @Redicat 8 років тому

      Liam Gibson Well guy why would you land when they could have PCM's rocket lauuchers aswell and they can LOCK you on ANYWAY.

    • @beng2500
      @beng2500 8 років тому

      +Julian Depaepe auto-hover will often gain alt as well making it hard to land quickly.

    • @Redicat
      @Redicat 8 років тому

      Benny Garkusha Lose altitute before landing idk

    • @MRB2580
      @MRB2580 8 років тому

      +Julian Depaepe You also lose full manoeuvrability while landing with auto hover, which can be disastrous if you take anti-air fire and need to abort. Also, a good pilot would be prepared to deploy countermeasures if they get locked up. Don't try to discredit good tactics because you're not familiar with landing without auto hover. Practice.
