I came to see if anyone made a comment pertaining to making french fries from jicama. Tasting the jicama after I cut it, it was like biting into a raw potato in my opinion LOL. I did not want to waste it so I cut it up into fries and drop them in the grease. Did not turn out but I still tried them when I pulled them out. I actually did like the flavor they just didn't crisp up like french fries would even though I had them in the grease for even longer than I would normal potato fries! Just wondering if there's a technique for making them successful fries LOL
We call jicama as "bekuo" Fun fact: the traditional word of jicama was "damlaung rluos (roasted potato)". It was called in the ancient times. However time changed.
We call this Singkamas 🇵🇭 it brings back my childhood memories, they sell this in the streets, cut it put stick on it and put it in a jar with water and eat it with sautéed shrimp paste (bagoong) soo goood.
Cook it! It taste really good! Julienne it also carrots, cabbage and onions. Saute chopped garlic then add onion, add all that singkamas/jicama, cabbage and onions. Just add salt and pepper. Its so good!!!! 🥰
The thing with jicama, when you get it you need to eat it that day or the next. It dries if you leave it out, it’ll last longer in the fridge (2 day). So like any other fruit, it taste better in its prime time. Prime time being the day you bought it
This was my favorite as a kid (4 smth) I used to go to my grandmother's house and apparently take every single piece I could find and stuff It into my little hello kitty bag but I slowly stopped and I never knew what it was so I went looking for what it was and honestly I thought my grandma just had apple potatoes (I knew they weren't potatoes the Hard way) or something from her garden cuz I never found out what it was. So thank you for informing me that it was jicamas or sing kamas and I never found it at the store because they were right next to the potatoes and I thought they were a different type of potato💀
In Malaysia we called Sengkuang..Sedak berdooh making Popia Basah filling, Sengkuang Calit, Rojak mix and so on..U all should try this menu when come to Msia..its Awesome!
We call it Singkamas in the Philippines 🥰we love soaking it in aged Cane Vinegar (Sukang Iloko) and salt, plain and simple. Sometimes we add it to our Lumpiang Sariwa (Fresh Lumpia) or Lumpiang Hubad (Lettuce wrap with lumpiang sariwa fillings). Me, I just like eating it like an apple (after it’s pealed, of course). It’s also great when pickled in the style of Danmuji(korean pickled radish).
in the Philippines they call them "singkamas" and it's allegedly introduced by the Spanish during their invasion... and locals probably misheard what they were called and called it "singkamas"
To me if depends on the fruit. My oranges I just cut them up and fridgerate them but like rambutan I'll peel them as I go. Apples I peel and cut and obviously pineapple and watermelon gets the same treatment.
Jicama is so good with lime and Tajin.
Yeah because you're tasting the lime and salty Tajín. Jicama is basically flavorless

Yummm. Jicama. I believe it's a root vegetable, not a fruit.

That’s what I thought
Technically, believe it's a tuber. But definitely not a fruit.
Eggplant is a fruit
Right lol. I never heard it was a fruit.

I don’t remember the potato taste but she was dead on with the Asian pear
As she said that I literally scream out “yeah!” Such a great comparison
I originally said it tasted like a combo of peas and apple
