      @@microbios8586 I think it depends when and where you get them jicama has a sort of radish flavor where it has a spicy sour taste to them in some states where I go they taste water downed but in others they taste fresh and flavorful

    In Indonesia we called it bengkuang, we often eat as a fruit or make it to traditional salad called rujak with palm sugar sauce. We also used it for skin care.

      @@saravalentin8430 50-100 grams of Brown sugar, 2 tbs roasted peanut, 1 tsp tamarind water, a bit of shrimp paste, a bit of salt and water. Adjust it to your liking. Blend together. We usually use pestle not blender.

    Sengkuang is what its being called by malaysian btw. Ughh it is so good to eat it with sweet chilli peanut sauce while having tea or coffee in the evening before dinner

      @@LL-iu3bi hehhe make sure its the dark and thick sauce. Brownish and watery one isnt really catch my eyes. Btw im that type that will scope a loootttt of this sweet chili peanut sauce with sengkuang and take it in one bite. Theres no term of balance ratio in my vocab when it comes to this

    we call that here in the philippines "Singkamas" it is really delicious when paired to "Bagoong" a shrimp paste taste sweet and spicy 😋😋😋😋

    We call Jicama as Sengkuang over here in Malaysia. Usually consume in a salad form called rojak! Personally I like snacking on it by themselves 😬

    I didnt know a jicama was a fruit. The first time I ever had it, my grandmother cut it up and fried it like fries

      I came to see if anyone made a comment pertaining to making french fries from jicama. Tasting the jicama after I cut it, it was like biting into a raw potato in my opinion LOL. I did not want to waste it so I cut it up into fries and drop them in the grease. Did not turn out but I still tried them when I pulled them out. I actually did like the flavor they just didn't crisp up like french fries would even though I had them in the grease for even longer than I would normal potato fries! Just wondering if there's a technique for making them successful fries LOL

    Wow, I didn’t know in English it’s called Jicama, I only know Khmer’s name.
    It’s pretty cheap and sweet & I love eating it with chili-salt seasoning 😋

      We call jicama as "bekuo"
      Fun fact: the traditional word of jicama was "damlaung​ rluos (roasted potato)". It was called in the ancient times. However time changed.

    I put strips of them in salads.
    To me, it tastes like a cross between a potato and apple but with the texture of a pear.

    We call this Singkamas 🇵🇭 it brings back my childhood memories, they sell this in the streets, cut it put stick on it and put it in a jar with water and eat it with sautéed shrimp paste (bagoong) soo goood.

    Cook it! It taste really good! Julienne it also carrots, cabbage and onions. Saute chopped garlic then add onion, add all that singkamas/jicama, cabbage and onions. Just add salt and pepper. Its so good!!!! 🥰

      HEB (Tx grocery store) cuts it very thin and people will use it to make low calorie tacos/wraps. Nice and crunchy.

    Jicama sounds like Singkamas. Here in the Philippines, we call it Singkamas 🥰 and we eat it with vinegar or s alt with crushed chilies

    The thing with jicama, when you get it you need to eat it that day or the next.
    It dries if you leave it out, it’ll last longer in the fridge (2 day).
    So like any other fruit, it taste better in its prime time. Prime time being the day you bought it

    This was my favorite as a kid (4 smth) I used to go to my grandmother's house and apparently take every single piece I could find and stuff It into my little hello kitty bag but I slowly stopped and I never knew what it was so I went looking for what it was and honestly I thought my grandma just had apple potatoes (I knew they weren't potatoes the Hard way) or something from her garden cuz I never found out what it was. So thank you for informing me that it was jicamas or sing kamas and I never found it at the store because they were right next to the potatoes and I thought they were a different type of potato💀

    In Malaysia we called Sengkuang..Sedak berdooh making Popia Basah filling, Sengkuang Calit, Rojak mix and so on..U all should try this menu when come to Msia..its Awesome!

    We call it Singkamas in the Philippines 🥰we love soaking it in aged Cane Vinegar (Sukang Iloko) and salt, plain and simple. Sometimes we add it to our Lumpiang Sariwa (Fresh Lumpia) or Lumpiang Hubad (Lettuce wrap with lumpiang sariwa fillings). Me, I just like eating it like an apple (after it’s pealed, of course). It’s also great when pickled in the style of Danmuji(korean pickled radish).

    To me if depends on the fruit. My oranges I just cut them up and fridgerate them but like rambutan I'll peel them as I go. Apples I peel and cut and obviously pineapple and watermelon gets the same treatment.
