In this video, I describe how to play through the song Living On a Prayer (Bon Jovi) using the 80's/90's sound pack which can be found at www.audora.ca for the Korg Kronos
Great tutorial, really helps with all the phrases of the songs keyboard parts. My only suggestion is slowing down when actually going through the phrases. For anyone seriously trying to learn, you'll have to pause constantly and rewatch even slow down the speed to catch it all.
Nice video Dave. Did you think about playing the entire song from beginning to end at some point in the video? It would be nice to hear it all come together with your particular arrangement. Or even overlaid on top of the actual song in the background?
Thanks! I actually had to record this a few times because of copyright issues. The down side to having the sounds so close to the original is that it gets flagged by UA-cam's copyright bot and prevents it from being viewable in some countries. I don't want that, so I'm forced to break it up and not play the whole thing like I want to.
Great video! but one question: I don't understand how the kronos is automatically changing the sounds...how does it "know" when to change the sound? you said "while you are holding this you can switch to the next sound"..but I really don't understand how you did it... I appreciate your answer since I am new in keyboards and I am thinking of buying myself a Kronos because I want to play 80's synth pop. Thank you!
I have a foot pedal that I press to go to the next sound in line! It's assigned to increment whatever mode you're in so I don't need to take my hands off of the keyboard to go to the next patch!
Would love to see song breakdowns like this just for studying different compositions. A lot going on here compared to music these days with 2 bar loops lol
The sounds on your keyboard are bomb. My only comment is it'd be nice to here everything in.context from start to finish. I don't have the capability to download a ton of sounds between now and 2 days from now (which is when I have to play this song). Any suggestions on a "work around" (for lack of a better term)
Arkadaşlar merhaba, ben org çalmayı biliyorum fakat yaşımdan dolayı teknoloji ile aram iyi değil. Midi klavye kullanıyorum. Bilgisayardan bu şarkıda kullanılan synthlerin adını nasıl bulabilirim? Teşekkür ederim.
Hey, this is a awesome video. What I've been looking for. Can I ask what kind of keyboard your using (like brand and stuff etc) I have a electric piano and a Casio keyboard, we're planning on getting a new one soon as the sustain pedal has completely stopped working on the electric piano and can't be fixed, have you got any suggestions because I would like to be able to do this kind of stuff as well as carry on my piano and keyboard grades. We were planning on getting a Yamaha.
Yamaha has good brass and some synth sounds (Their guitars are good too) but I'm still a fan of the Korg Kronos which is what I'm using in the video. It's by far the most versatile workstation I've used.
Thanks very much! Actually... Every time I tried, the sounds were close enough that UA-cam thought it was the original and flagged it so I had to take it down :( - It's been this way for many songs now.
Hi Dave. I sent a message on your website but never got a response. I was juat wondering how you would set up the keyboards for Somebody Told Me, by the Killers.
Hi James - My website contact page isn't working (I mention it on the site but I guess I need to make the message larger) There's a bit to it actually. Email me at audoraaudio@gmail.com and we can chat about it!
All of the sounds you heard are programmed! There are no samples, they're made using the Kronos engines. If you have a Korg Kronos, you can visit www.audora.ca and the sounds are available there. If you have another synth, it'd be up to you to program the sounds yourself on that particular synth engine.
@@AudoraAudio dang those are expensive lol. Someday I’ll get one when I save up maybe haha. Idk how but the tone in the chorus is the most accurate version I’ve seen on UA-cam It brings me back to my middle school days when things seem so cool and happy. @@ivankg844 I do, but I don't own any. I really wanted to get into the Fantom at some point, but finding other synths has been a lower priority for me at the moment.
@@arniet1 Honestly, if you can find used workstations from a few generations ago, you can catch amazing deals for very reasonable synths. Look into things like the Yamaha Motif (Not the new XS but like older models) or Roland Fantom series. (Again, older ones) You could also look into things like Korg Triton (Not the LE but things like the Triton Studio) or if you really want to get into programming hardcore, look at the Kurzweil 2500/2600 series. The 88 key keyboard have excellent keybeds, but stay away from the 76 key ones. There were mechanical issues with the Fatar keybeds and the weight glue coming undone unless it's a grey-colored 2600. Anyway, looking at older generation series workstations will give you a LOT of bang for your buck. It won't be the newest/latest/greatest, but it'll give you more than enough to work with in terms of learning programming, sound design and still getting some very usable sounds without breaking the bank.
@@AudoraAudio Thanks for that info Dave. Very kind for the detail. I don't want to get into programming, just be able to get a good variety of sounds, bit like if you were getting different pedal effects for electric guitar
Well, guitarists use them usually though some keyboardists too. What you're looking for is a "Talk Box" - I have the MXR Talk Box, but there are all kinds. Definitely neat to look into!
I have 200 and something preset voices on my Wal-Mart Yamaha keyboard. So I have to pick whatever sounds close. "Strings" sounds somewhat similar. I'm attempting to understand the world of synthesizer terminology and such. But it's tough to do so playing on a plastic turd. This thing takes a beating and keeps on ticking though. It'd probably survive if I threw it out of a moving vehicle.
Great tutorial. One thing I would do personally though is make samples of the C D and E chords with their bass notes so you can play them as single notes with one hand. Kind of cheating but it means you can play it all like the original without having to sacrifice anything.
The names are completely irrelevant. There's no standard naming scheme for sounds in the synth world; when I say MIDI Stack, it might sound different from a Roland, Kurzweil and Korg. Besides that, these are all sounds that I have custom programmed to sound like the album so there's no name for them.
Great job on matching the sounds, especially the intro and chorus. The chunky part on the verses you describe does not sound like it is brass based to me. I am thinking it is organ based with no modulation or vibrato and very little release time. If not, then it is a bass based sound, such as a sequencer bass but obviously played in the higher not range. I am working on this now. Thanks for posting!
I'd recommend listening to the isolated keyboard tracks - everything is MUCH easier to hear there and you'll have an easier time discerning what sounds like what :)
Where do you get e.g. isolated keyboard tracks for a song like this? Wouldn't it mean you could also simply sample the whole thing (by splitting it in smaller parts, for playback of course....) ??
@@AudoraAudio You keep refering to this isolated tracks. Where can I find (or buy?) these? It would come in very handy for a lot off songs! And also , where to find the tracks to isolated samples from? Thanks al lot and keep up the good work!

You definitely need a synthesizer if you want the sounds to be like the album. I made these sounds for the Korg Kronos, which is what I was playing on
