@@dwightlove3704 Well, "the Shadow" was released in 1994, when CGI effects were already well-established. "Terminator 2" was released in 1991 and featured groundbreaking CGI effects, as you know, so, CGI effects were available for early to mid-nineties films; it's just that using computer-generated effects was expensive.
The Shadow franchise predates Star Wars. Though funny enough in the prequels, they do talk about clouded Minds. Since George Lucas is a fan of movie serials and radio shows odds are he did some shout outs to the Shadow when making Star Wars.
No, he was a runner for Bruce Wayne for the Burton film. Along with a ton of other guys, like Harrison Ford, Jeff Bridges, Tom Cruise, and even Robert Downey Jr.
Baldwin was a great choice for this role. This movie has just everything. Great landscapes, strong characters, beautiful female character, great evil opponent, charm of 30s, kind of fortress of solitude, his own driver in fancy cab, music. And it is so well mixed together. Definitely one of the best superhero motion pictures and very underrated i think.
Adam Wojtowicz Sorry but there is a reason this movie didn't do well. They would have been better off following the pulp magazine's version of the Shadow and ditching the magic and mind control and the "Lamont Cranston is the Shadow" idea. Heck, the Shadow shouldn't have been the star of the movie. It would have been better if his new aide was the focus of the movie and the audience gets to see through his eyes and to be mystified by the Shadow the same way the new aide is.
+bjbell52 Umm, no. Just no. They were taking elements from the radio show more than anything here to make the character work. I thought they did a good job with it. The character is definitely perfect for a new film today though.
alucard624 Yes because the radio show was easily the most popular. However, the original pulp version could have made a better film. Have you even read any of the pulps?
Well you can forget that. Re-make and Good Quality are terms that will not be successfully used in conjunction together for a long.... long while again in "Western cinema".
it already was remade, it's called Batman Begins. It is literally the same movie scene for scene, search google for "The Shadow and Batman Begins: A Movie Comparison"
This could definitely work as a reboot. Preferably a series on Netflix with a more serious tone. Same time period, characters, and premise. Keep everything 👍
@@johnrambo685 I very much doubt they'd make him gay. Even if they did, it says a lot about people's bigotry that it would be enough to stop them watching a show just because of it.
The Shadow isn't a bad movie. I really love the parts with Lamont and Margot but it could have been better if it committed itself to being a dark movie rather than towing the line.
the whole movie isn't meant to be too serious. it's meant to be a parody of old new York. Cars they would never as a cabs, everythings too clean. Life is rarely that dark all the time. People like to make jokes and lighten the mood in even the darkest of times.
This is one of those movies that deserves a redo. Only thing is to not make it about a man who can just be invisible and not to make it comparable to batman. It can be done, I'm sure of it.
Does anyone know what is that very high pitched sounding brass instrument that plays right in the beggining? Is it a cornet? A trumpet? A horn? Can anybody help me on this?
Your guys should give the "German voice" of the shadow a try. Sounds deeper and much more mysterious. And, yes! He has been defnetly a Kandidate for Batman. It's a pity!
I wonder if Alec Baldwin was ever considered for James Bond? I don't believe he was, but he's a good enough actor to modify his performance style to better suit that role. Yes, he's quintessentially American in every sense, but he's got many of the qualities needed for Bond. He's got the intensity; the hard edge; the acting chops; he's got the dark good looks, he can play ruthless and sophisticated, etc.
Even though 1994 gave us the awesome Pulp Fiction, The Shadow remains one of my favourite movies ever. "Who knows what evil lurks in the farts of men?" Yep - you read that right!

The Shadow, The Rocketeer, The Phantom. Three unapreciated retro superhero films of the 90s.
I'm obsessed with that failed pulp '90s revival! I wish they had succeeded and we would have gotten more.
I miss the 90s my childhood.
Go and listen 1937 radio shows about The Shadow. They are nice
And BEST than the current ones
That simple trick with the lighting, characters slipping in and out of shadows - not a drop of CGI in it, yet it's so effective!
Yes I agree 100%

Baldwin was perfect for the role, shit load of charm, had the right look, and his voice was on point.
Part of a good film being great is the right cast.
Its like the jedi mind trick and vampire glamouring put together.
