    Rugby refs get respect because they give it. They're consistent, hear the players out instead of yelling at them to go away or dismissing their concerns, and they calmly explain their decisions.

    • @MaybuTron
      @MaybuTron 8 років тому +33

      It's also instilled from the very start of a player's career. It's drilled into the youngest of players that the referee is right, even when he gets it wrong, his word is final. It's a tough lesson to have a penalty against you being moved 10m closer to your try line for arguing with the ref.

    • @Buffalohomer

      it's true what you say here, I had a referee in our local mini football league that explained everything he was whistling for and it was an absolute joy to play under these circumstances. There is too little communication between many referees and players in football.

    The big thing about officiating rubgy matches is the team captains involvement, they get explained what the issue was and to pass on the judgement to their team and to explain why and what to fix for the rest of the game. In football you almost never see this, in Rugby being the captain is a big deal and refs hold them responsible for their team

      NZ are just as bad as everyone else, just for example a NZ player has the title "Most penalised player of 2015 world cup". So to base NZ on the basis "they aren't in the compilations, therfore they are better than other teams" is not correct.

      Player lead with the head and made contact with the head, making it an automatic red card for reckless play and player safety issues I think.

      Gentleman's sport? That's a myth. If it's a gentleman's sport then please can you explain the rugby team at my uni who used to trash local pubs and sing songs about hating poor people? Or the rugby team I had the immense misfortune of sharing a hotel with, who trashed their rooms, intimidated staff and guests and were caught exposing their genitals to people from their balconies? Or the rugby team who forced my friend to drink pints of urine at one of their socials? Exemplary gentlemen, eh?

      @@leebradshaw3549 Why would such an obviously pro-rugby video include examples of the sport's dark side?! It's nothing about being tough - it's about not being a dick and glorying in boorish, elitist behaviour. If you condone such activities within rugby then you are contributing to its failure to grow as a sport.

    That Scarlets "You having a fucking laugh" one: That better not have been the Scarlets captain he was talking to, because, had it been, if I, as the official, had gotten that report and they couldn't pick out who did it, I send off the captain (with two in the bin already), as he is unable or unwilling to control his side. Let the Tribunal or Disciplinary Committee deal with the afters.

    I'd love for them to have one season where the rugby referees go and referee football games. The first few games there would be only about 3 players not sent off but by the end they would have learned some manners.

      This video is supposed to be a celebration of rugby so why the needless comparison with football? It's exactly these kinds of unprovoked comparisons that highlight rugby's collosal inferiority complex, so please stop.
