I love Mikko 2 guitar cabinet plugin I try free version and I was stunned. To this moment I NEVER hear cab plugin with so real cabinet sound. True gem in my plugins collection!
Hey Mikko & the team! I'm happy with the Mikko2 (it's not perfect but what is?) but I was wondering if you could possibly update it with some bass cabinets? One or two Ampegs (4x10, 8x10) would be great, so the Mikko2 would also cover the bass guitar in the mix. Considering the price, I think this could be a free update.
Been using Mikko2 for a good while now and it's awesome to endlessly mix cabs and mics. Love all the "Mega" cabs and different speakers. The EVML cab helps capture the actual sound of my Mark IV! There aren't a lot of IR's for the g12-50GL Lynchback speakers and I think that'd be an awesome addition in Mikko2. Throw some in a Mesa OS cab! I also think bass cabs would be a goood addition. Sick of using other plugins for bass.
Nice, the ability to angle to 90 degrees is fantastic but think the MiKKo 1 plugin pricing strategy was much better and more fair because we’re all broke basically and cannot afford £200 on another plugin. The Mikko 1 and all the cabs I have for that will do for now .
i agree, it would be better if you could buy cab pack individually, just like before, preferably at a really competitive price. eur 200 for almost 40 cabs is a really good deal, but it's still a lot of money, and every single user is most likely to land on 4-5 cabs they use regularly, anyway, plus about 5 more for particular sounds.
Word. I always looked at Mikko as the provider for hobby guitarists that need some low-budget plugins. Hence why you could excuse having the same Effects Pedals on every plugin and never any Effects Chain. Not offering any upgrade path for Mikko owners is also a real downer since even heavy hitters like Native Instruments give their peers great upgrade paths despite the bundles including entirely newly created instruments. I own too many NeuralDSP plugins though to really need a 3D cab sim for that price. Every neuralDSP plugin has one you can use the Cabs of.
Having Mikko 1 got me a discount on Mikko 2, though a tad pricey (and I'm on unemployment right now), I ended up making the investment back in three sessions re-amping other people's tracks. The main thing to mention is think about the cost of buying each and every cab and mic, and don't forget a high end pre-amp, plus a space for recording and storing each and every one of those cabs. There is no way I could ever afford that--thanks divorce!--for the rest of my lifetime.
I finally decided to pull the trigger on Mikko2 and took me about 2-3 hours of tweaking and I'm on the best tone I've ever got out of any setup. Very happy to say the least!
To have the ability to move the mic around on the XYZ axis and do this with 4 microphones in the free version is absolutely huge. You typically only see this in paid amp sim plugins. This pretty much eradicates the need to use the other Vintage 30 IRs that I bought in the past. I've tested this out, and I'm hugely impressed. Great work, Mikko and ML Sound Lab!
I DID buy a IR pack from you and put them in my AX8. My opinion on IR's have forever since changed. I already thought my AX8 was the best modeler ever, but your IR's liften it through the roof!
Looks like a great product - the only thing I'm missing is a quick comparison button for an existing (third party) IR, ideally with an overlayed EQ curve.
Excellent video and plugin (judging from the the video alone). I'm a Two Notes guy but i dig the extra stuff you added there (EQ representation, angle, tilt, IR print...).
Now please make it easier to bypass the cabinet section in the ML amp sims. (Ideally a universal control with a simple click box on the main amp view, so we don't have to do it over again each time we change presets.)
@MLSoundLab : EDIT : 05:35 The "angle" thing is interesting but the term is a bit misleading because we could also think it"s the mic angle AKA "tilt" :) EDIT2 : didn't know rotating the mic around like that (with the "angle" thing) would change the tone that much.
It's probably too late to ask for this but it would be nice to split MIKKO 2 into two categories. There would be a "basic" MIKKO 2 in which half of the 38 cabinets could be selected (freely) and there would be the full MIKKO 2. The price is very good for 38 cabinets, but I think many of us just don't need that much. It was good with Mikko 1 that I didn't have to buy the Vox when I needed the Marshalls, Mesas, Orange, Engl and Bogner. :)
@@mlsoundlab I ended up buying it in the summer sale. It's an excellent plugin and an improvement over Mikko 1. It was there mainly because at the time some amp sims didn't have proper impedance modeling. Now everyone seems to have caught up.. that being said I'll make a video about how to replicate impedance with the EQ section. 😉
This plugin is so easy to use and so impressive how you can get perfect guitar sound with great IRs in a couple of click. Also I really like the trick to use only one instance for 3 guitar amp channels :)
All the data suggests that miked up signals from guitar cabinets have close to zero non-linearities. If you shoot an IR super quiet vs loud there's a tiny difference. The aim for me is to shoot IRs as loud as possible with the amp staying as clean as possible. The IRs in MIKKO2 are 500ms long while most modelers our there are 20-40ms so that IR length is going to give you full resolution tail of what the cabinet sounds like - even potential rattles, however I do my best to get the cabs running healthy and rattle-free. The short answer is - the difference is extremely tiny and many times unnoticeable and the IRs are shot loud (unlike in many other places) so we're essentially modeling a loud amp all the time.
Did you just basically record a like million different IRs for this? Or is there some sort of DSP being applied to extrapolate more configurations from a single IR or to interpolate between two separate IRs? Also (unrelated), how much of a room tone do you get by increasing the distance parameter?
This is a question that I was going to ask, too. I wondered if they used a mic robot to capture a bunch of IR positions. I'd be very impressed if they did.
This is amazing! Are there any plans to port bass cabinets in here as well? Also any chance you will make a Amped Suite where we can get any of the amps/cabs you make within one plugin?
It is actually something you can quite easily emulate with the EQ. I'll make a tutorial about it. Overall that feature was in MIKKO1 because some modelers didn't have power amp modeling. In 2023 modeling seems to have caught up!
No plans to do that this time around, we were really wanting MIKKO2 to be an all-encompassing pack to give people the biggest discount we could on the full version. The more you splinter it off into different packs, the more expensive the fully-loaded one becomes. -Kai
Is this is just a single IR capture with a fancy UI so that when the 'mic' is moved a simple eq curve is applied ? if so this is why I have fab filter pro eq ? which I apply in the mix. Or is this actual multi IR mic positions captured producing actual equalisation at these positions like in the real world. Comments welcome.
Actual multi-mic positions - tonnes of captures went into this plugin. Can't talk too much about the exact inner workings of the plugin as this is a secret known only to Mikko and the developers, but an awful lot of work went into the capturing for the MIKKO2 plugin. -Kai
Question: I own the MEGA OS 412 pack and I absolutely love the mixes it comes with (Infamous, Almighty, ...). Does Mikko02 show you the mic types and mixes you used for the cab pack? I'd love to know what's behind "almighty", for example :)
We're able to bring the price point down significantly this way. MIKKO1 cabs were 39,99€ and this is 38 cabs x 39,99€ = 1500€. So the deal right now is that you get 38 for the price of 6 MIKKO1 cabs. 😉
This thing is amazing. I will have to say, bundling ALL the packs together rather than separating them into smaller packs that you can buy a la carte is a miss, but it certainly has nothing to do with the quality on offer. I think you'd get considerably more business if the whole thing wasn't being sold for the price of two Neural DSP amp sims. Just a thought. That being said, I don't think I can go back to using a stock IR ever again. It's completely nuts how well these slot into a mix with next to no effort. As of the end of 2024, this is absolutely the gold standard.

@@mlsoundlab You were the innovator then and now. We really appreciate it. It took me 10 years before I realized how important the speaker and microphones were. Now they are always what I start with.
Cab Packs are a collection of IRs, while MIKKO2 is a full cabinet-simulator plugin that gives you the full freedom to move the microphones around the cabinet, blend them together, adjust the mixes of each, EQ them, and fine-tune the phase relationships. Cab Packs are great if you need simple results, but the MIKKO2 plugin really puts you in the driver's seat and lets you fine-tune everything to be exactly how you want it to be. -Kai
That is what we had before with MIKKO1 but we received a ton of the opposite feedback where people also wanted just a handful of cabs but there was no way of demoing those cabs so they'd have to blindly purchase cabs without knowing if that was what they wanted to use. So the better option was for people to pay for just a handful of cabs and get all ~40 cabs for that price. A single MIKKO cab release was 39,99€ so that's about 6 cabs the old fashioned way and now you get them all and likely you'll find your favorite sounds from a cabinet you were never going to buy in the first place. 🙂 That's how we thought everyone wins.
Hey Mikko! Ever considered doing an IR pack on the Vader 4x12 cabs? I know they’re pretty hard to find now but they had such a signature sound for the more extreme stuff! Thanks!
If you're on MacOS, this is super easy - we did a video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/NuoJdcDlXEc/v-deo.html If you're on PC, this should be possible with something like VoiceMeeter Banana, though we haven't been able to figure that out just yet. -Kai
It would be so cool to be able to buy individual cabinets only. Can't afford the full set eventhough this really seems like the best cabinet simulator ever.
Sort of - you'd use it the same place you would use an IR in your chain. You can actually export IRs from the MIKKO2 plugin though, so it's more of an IR creator and cabinet simulator, rather than a straight alternative to using IRs. -Kai
Absolutely.😢 I've bought pretty much every cab I want, but I'd love to have the newer updated versions. I don't really want to spend $150 on updated cabs I just bought, and ones I won't use.
If you own the first one you should have the second one for free! After that you should be able to buy IR packs on the side and use the one you already bought.
What's the equivalent cab in MIKKO1 compared to the new Mega 4x12 Oversize? I found no similarity. With V2 out now, all V1 Mesa at dead center CAP sounds very bad while V2 sounds so much better. Render my V1 complete pack collections quite useless now.
MIKKO1 still sounds exactly as awesome as it did the day you bought it - MIKKO2 just uses all our new techniques and methods to get the results sounding to the best of our ability -Kai
Hi Mikko. What cables are you using when creating IRs ? Just recently I realised how much of a difference more expensive cables like for example Mogami can make.. Edit: I'm so in love with MIKKO2!!!
Mogami isn't expensive, check out Evidence Audio Lyric HG. That said, I've done many cable tests, cables only really matter related to the cable between your guitar and either the amp input (or your first buffer). It comes down to shielding and capatance primarily. Since most impulse responses do not have that interaction between the guitar electronics and the amp input, I'd imagne that differences would be next to nothing as long as you are using short cable runs and balanced where possible (i.e the MICs).
@@ArtoftheDial I don't mean only guitar cables. When creating IRs, I assume Mikko is connecting cabs to power amp of some sort. Quality of these cables also makes difference, I heard it myself. Plus of course microphone cables.
@@franzmaurer7108 Cabs to power amps is basically nothing, this is coming from someone with access to a Trainwreck amp and a pre-rolla 30 cab connecting with an Evidence audio the Siren cable. Literally the grail of grail setups. I know people with Dumbles that have used lamp cords for the amp to cab. As long as you use a super thick and short cable for this purpose, the differences are basically not discernable to say an SM57 microphone. This is different than the Guitar to Cable connection, which absolutely do sound different.
I actually believe line 6 were the first in 1996 to use impulses, convolution wasn't patented though until sony in 99 so I think they kept it secret and why the original pod sounded so good for the day.And many have copied since. Axfx were certainly not the first to use convolution for cab emulation.
MIKKO2 isn't an IR loader - it's something we spoke about, but ultimately loading IRs into the plugin would significantly stifle the potential of the plugin. The real magic comes from moving the microphones around the cabinet in a 3D space yourself and listening out for the differences even a subtle movement can make. -Kai
Cool that it comes with all of the previous IRs, but not so cool for people who already own those IRs. It's very expensive for an IR loader compared to what else is already out there. STL Tones Libra is already very good.
No you can't, the MIKKO2 plugin is entirely new and built from the ground up - loads of new cabinets, new mic placements, new features etc. If you purchased the MIKKO1.0 version, you are entitled to a 25% off discount code using MIKKOLOYAL at checkout though! -Kai
I will download the free version and give it a go, but i am pretty sure it will sound great. Since you already reached the excellence in terms of close miking, i would suggest to develop something to simulate room mics
Hey Mikko! Are you going to add to your list of cabinets a Randall cab from the 80's with Jaguar speakers? :) Btw! We need an update for the Eq so you can modify it like the Ozone eq plugin!! That would be awesome and would avoid made me use that plugin :O

@@mlsoundlab You were the innovator then and now. We really appreciate it. It took me 10 years before I realized how important the speaker and microphones were. Now they are always what I start with.
I don't get it. I have couple IR's packs. So if I load them to Mikko 2, I can move mics in this IR's? Or how it worked?
oh. it's 1 free cab

@@mlsoundlab Thank you :)
i wish there would be a cheaper possibility where you can buy just one cab with the mikko2 plugin.
Thanks!
Can this be used standalone like Mikko 1?
Yes it can!
-Kai
Just got the demo, this thing is insane!!!
Thank you!!
-Kai
if I use standalone amp sims can I still use the mikko2 ?
If you're on MacOS, this is super easy - we did a video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/NuoJdcDlXEc/v-deo.html
If you're on PC, this should be possible with something like VoiceMeeter Banana, though we haven't been able to figure that out just yet.
-Kai
It would be so cool to be able to buy individual cabinets only. Can't afford the full set eventhough this really seems like the best cabinet simulator ever.
Thanks for the feedback!
-Kai
Is this for protools as well ?
Yes, AAX support is available, but it's Mac-only. Thanks for asking about it 🙏
-Kai
is this an alternative to IR's?
Sort of - you'd use it the same place you would use an IR in your chain. You can actually export IRs from the MIKKO2 plugin though, so it's more of an IR creator and cabinet simulator, rather than a straight alternative to using IRs.
-Kai
just a question. is it possible to load in other irs into this?
No, MIKKO2 is not an IR loader - it's an IR creation plugin 🙏
-Kai
Mikko, please let me give you a suggestion. Make a loyalty coupon discount based on how many cabs we have bought to Mikko 1.
agree
Absolutely.😢 I've bought pretty much every cab I want, but I'd love to have the newer updated versions. I don't really want to spend $150 on updated cabs I just bought, and ones I won't use.
Totally agree!
If you own the first one you should have the second one for free! After that you should be able to buy IR packs on the side and use the one you already bought.
I didn't realize you did all those ir's for those different companys, your badass!
What's the equivalent cab in MIKKO1 compared to the new Mega 4x12 Oversize? I found no similarity. With V2 out now, all V1 Mesa at dead center CAP sounds very bad while V2 sounds so much better. Render my V1 complete pack collections quite useless now.
MIKKO1 still sounds exactly as awesome as it did the day you bought it - MIKKO2 just uses all our new techniques and methods to get the results sounding to the best of our ability
-Kai
@@mlsoundlab not answering my question. Which cab exactly please?
Is there a way to use the same mic in one instance?
In what way? You're able to use the same mic on the same cab for all 9 mics in your blend if you so wish
-Kai
Super awesome features! Please also add stereo input to all your amp sims, begging you lol
Couldn't you just run another instance of the amp sim, and use a different input? You'd have more flexibility in tone and panning
You've definitely done it! Thank you!!!
Thanks Peter! 🙏
-Kai
How to import existing IRS?
MIKKO2 isn't an IR loader - it's something we spoke about, but ultimately loading IRs into the plugin would significantly stifle the potential of the plugin. The real magic comes from moving the microphones around the cabinet in a 3D space yourself and listening out for the differences even a subtle movement can make.
-Kai
Cool that it comes with all of the previous IRs, but not so cool for people who already own those IRs. It's very expensive for an IR loader compared to what else is already out there. STL Tones Libra is already very good.
MIKKO2 isn't an IR loader, it 's a cabinet simulator - it's a totally different plugin from the STL Tones Libra
-Kai
Slow clap for you
who has mikko 1 package, can use it within the mikko2 ?
No you can't, the MIKKO2 plugin is entirely new and built from the ground up - loads of new cabinets, new mic placements, new features etc. If you purchased the MIKKO1.0 version, you are entitled to a 25% off discount code using MIKKOLOYAL at checkout though!
-Kai
nice one...btw recently bought your Super Duper Amp, what a great sounding great value sim, credit to you Sir
Thank you so much Jack, that Super Duper amp was my favourite for the longest time, glad you're loving it!
-Kai
It sounds so good, interesting plugin I will be taking a look for sure.
Let us know what you think of it once you've checked it out!
-Kai
@@mlsoundlab is the ML for Destruction cab included? I can't see the name.
I will download the free version and give it a go, but i am pretty sure it will sound great. Since you already reached the excellence in terms of close miking, i would suggest to develop something to simulate room mics
Thank you for the suggestion! Let us know how you get on with the free version 💪

Thank You Very Much Mikko!!! 💯❤️🤘
Thanks for checking it out Bobby!

This company is the real deal

Hehee kiitos kiitos! Pitää vaan graindaa graindaa graindaa.. :P
This plugin looks and sounds amazing - could you load external IR’s aswell??
It's kind of the opposite of an IR loader. It includes an insane amount of IRs.. basically unlimited. 😉
Freakishly good!
Thanks buddy!
Hey Mikko! Are you going to add to your list of cabinets a Randall cab from the 80's with Jaguar speakers? :)
Btw! We need an update for the Eq so you can modify it like the Ozone eq plugin!! That would be awesome and would avoid made me use that plugin :O
Thank you for the feedback Francisco, we appreciate it! 🙏

Mikko is in a killing mode since some time. That thing may be a game changer.
Thank you! 🙏

Yes! "MIKKOLOYAL" gives an extra 25% off discount for people who bought any of the previous MIKKO plugins. 😘

So everyone is so supportive, but here's a customer with all MIKKO expansion packs (300~350 euro is easily over 150 euro) and get the same deal with MIKKO1 owner.
Agree. Not great
THIS is what bedroom recording was waiting for!
Oh yeah! 🔥

Are there any room mics? I've found room mics to be super nice for jamming with headphones.
Hi Mikko, I have a FM9....I can use standard resolution IR's or High rez. Are the Mikko2 IR;s High rez or standard once exported to thr FM9?
I think I can make unique bass IRs with this 🤘
Industry secret.. quite many of the best bass sounds are actually a Mega 4x12 Oversize. Has enough low extension. I'd also try the Angr!
Awesome thanks!!
Any other cabs?
Impressive indeed
Thank you!

What\which (plugin) is the amp-sim?
Buying this seems like a no brainer. Honestly it’s a steal for the price you’re charging Mikko! Really appreciate ML Sound Lab. I’m always impressed with your products!
