The trick is.....if you don't know ASK someone......they won't ignore you or tear your head off. When you get to uni ask,ask & ask some more.

In major supermarkets Australia has sour cream in the cream section of the dairy products.
We also have corn chips in the confectionery-chip section as well as in the international food section with the jars of salsa, and taco packs.

A quick piece of advice, - don't try and find your perfect permanent place just yet.
Many Aussies just go with the flow, so take the month at that place. If it works out, great, they will change their flow to let you stay.
If not, you will meet people in Uni who will also have share houses full of Uni students, and they will also be swapping around trying to find the compatible people to settle in with, or to party hard with, or somewhere in between.
It sounds like you went to a small convenience store that didn't stock everything, rather than a supermarket which does. Sour cream and Tortillas are definitely there. I have seen Monterey cheese in Coles Supermarket but I have never tasted it and have nothing to compare it to.
I'm so glad to see the change in demeanour between the somewhat sad and more likely stressed start of the video, and the bit more settled and happier end.
I will wish you Good Luck, but I can tell you will be alright.

You should be able to find Sour Cream in big tubs with the normal cream, yoghurt and butter. The Deli part of the supermarket usually has an extensive array of cheeses so check their for your favourites.
I hope you have settled in a bit more since this video and have found your way around. Enjoy!

Cole’s, Woolworths (Woolies) & Aldi will all have large sizes of sour cream and tortilla chips.
Give yourself time. It’s a huge move and not having your shelter sorted is stressful. Speak to your student advisor when you start your Uni classes for help.

I mean a phone, bank account and things are pretty basics you'd require at any new country.

    AMAYSIM is a good deal.
Do you say you're going to university? If you are I'm surprised that there isn't some kind of welcome pack that gives a guide on what is the best way to get on your feet.

Sour cream is in the cream section find double or thickened cream and it’s there. Tortillas are available Doritos or supermarket brand. Cheese is different in Australia but I’m guessing Monterey Jack is more like a vintage or bitey cheese, from the uk this is bizarre also.

The issues with your groceries is when you are in inner city areas the supermarkets are small and can't stock much, go out to the suburbs and there will be more items you're after.
Great that you managed to settle in and relax so quick, being an immigrant is always hard the first few weeks no matter the country especially when you don't have help.
After this experience, next time you chat on the phone with your parents, tell them how much you appreciate what they did for you.

Maybe you will make some friends at school and be able to house share somewhere. Accommodation is hard to find since COVID in Australia. I make my own sour cream as I need it.. just mix enough lemon juice with cream till you get the desired taste. That's all you need for it. You should also be able to buy it in any supermarket here.

You'd require a driver licence for a mobile.
But you can use a passport as well, It's part of the id for a phone service.
You'd probably want a post paid sim, which is paying for credit as you go.
Recruitment would be the fastest way for a full time job but asking around at cafes etc would be better for a part time jobs.
Maybe talking to Ashley fey on UA-cam would help you as her 1st job was $27 so an hour

"Be kind to immigrants". I get it. It's hard being a foreigner here trying to find your feet, even if you can speak the language. But I'm sure you understand that it's hard for the locals as well, as we're currently going through a really bad rental crisis and the job market is terrible. Even people who are employed are homeless and it's all due to one thing - mass immigration.
Best of luck with your studies. Monash Uni is a good school.
